On behalf of suzi and all of the gals here, WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME to the Grocery Challenge from me - dancinmama!! If you have never clipped a coupon, or even if you have been using coupons for years, we'd love to have you join us. We are a crazy, fun-loving, and very friendly group of gals just chatting with one another about how to save big money using coupons. We are willing to help anyone, at any level, in any way that we can. Don't think that you have to read through the pages and pages of posts to join in - most of it will be old, out-of-date information anyway. Just go to the last page of the thread and introduce yourself. Tell us what area of the country you're from and where you shop (grocery stores, national chain stores, Target, WalMart, etc.). We'd love to have you join us on a regular basis, so don't be shy - just jump right in, have some fun, and save a ton of money in the process!! Since we are trying to foster a sense of true community on this thread, please try your best to keep your fellow couponers in mind when you post. Here are some suggestions: NEWBIES/OLDIES: If you post a HOUND ALERT requesting coupons from others, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE also post which insert/where the coupon can be found (Example: 1/2 SS) so that we can find it easily without having to research it ourselves. ALSO, if you need the coupon for a specific deal, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE try to remember to post the deal with your HOUND ALERT so that someone who may have the coupon(s) can decide whether they want/need to do the deal before sending out any of their coupons. THANKS!! POSTING ABOUT A DEAL / HOT COUPON: Some people get overwhelmed by the number of posts and only have time to skim the posts for the information that they need the most. If you are posting a deal, please post something that makes it stand out like "CVS DEAL ALERT" or if you are posting to tell us that there is a new, hot coupon available, please post something like "$3/1 WHOLLY GUACAMOLE IP ALERT". We want to make this thread as fun, friendly, and helpful as possible. These suggestions will save EVERYONE a lot of time when they are trying to "catch up" and read through past posts. Okay, now let's have some FUN!! ;D

rubyslippers: Just in case you didn't see it on the May thread, would you please outline the Purina deal at WalMart. I am almost out of pet food for all my furbabies. If I don't find a deal, I'm going to have to pay OOP for the first time in about 4 years to feed them. TIA

Has anyone here ever shopped at Price Rite?! I wish I had had more time to check things out, but, I spent about $20, including a .99 bag of ice since I bought cold stuff and wasn't going right home. Here's what I got (from memory) for $20! 1 lb strawberries, .99 1 ear sweet corn (6/$1) 2 HUGE packs of b/s chix breasts, .99/lb! 1 package of sponge cakes for shortcake, .99 2 lbs bacon, 1.49 lb! English muffins, .99 Rolls from a local bakery, 1.40 Quart buttermilk, 1.49 4yogurt, .25 ea! AMAZING prices. I will definitely be going back! There were other things I saw that i didn't buy were great prices, like bailey's flavored coffee creamer, .99! Their canned veggies were cheaper than Aldi. There were 2 women in that aisle that had 2 carts FULL of cases and cases and cases of canned veggies! Wow, those are some great prices!! Lately I have been going to the $.99 store for produce if I can't find what I need on sale cheaper anywhere else. I can get bell peppers for $.50/ea. everyday where they are $1/ea. on sale at Safeway (IF I'm lucky). They usually always have basic salad produce, bananas, and bunches of asparagus in season - nothing is more than $1. Don't you have a Foods Co near you? I don't know about you, but Food's Co here in Lompoc ALWAYS has fruits and veggies on sale and they are not gross or anything...a few weeks ago they had orange bell peppers .78/ea which is AMAZING...but they always have green bells and cucumbers on sale for .25/ea and they have much more variety than .99 store..HTH Also, Albies has cherries on sale for $2.45/lb (at the commissary they cost $4.99/lb) Vons has grapes on sale for .98/lb and fresh express lettuce .88 Just4U price. Foods Co has pears on sale for .78/lb and bonless/skinless chicken breasts for $1.88/lb (the cheapest I have ever seen it here is $1.67/lb which happens every 3-6months).

Nope, no Foods Co. and no Albertsons. All I have is Safeway (Vons) and Nob Hill. I used to shop at Foods Co. and Albertsons all the time in that area and a lot at Vons when they offered doubled coupons, but they discontinued that in 2003. The grapes in my Safeway ad this week are $1.99/lb. Bell peppers (all colors) are $.99/ea. White corn is $.50/ear. I don't usually buy my produce at Safeway. The sales prices are just too high. The $.99 store or the ethnic markets are cheaper for produce here. At the $.99 store I can get 3 Romaine hearts for $1 on a regular basis.

My pups are getting low too...I'm still kind of avoiding Purina, but, we'll see. I did read something on HCW about $1 small bags of Beneful. I'm guessing that might be the deal. My store is small and rarely has that kind of stuff so probably not worth the trip to check...

Couple good deals at CVS: Crest "travel friendly" size, found with full size, priced around 2.77-2.87, is giving the $3 EB this week.
Red machine is giving $1/1 any toothbrush. I didn't find any for $1 but there were some for 1.19 in the travel items.
Red machine also gave me $3/1 Salma Hyack hair care. They are B1G1 50% this week, with some items 7.99. There is a cvs Q in the RIB mag. If you have 2 of each Q, makes them very cheap.

This is what I did at CVS this week:
2 milky way bars @ $0.75 - $0.75/2 MQ 1 Oral-B Clinical Toothbrush @ 5.89 - $1/1 MQ - $1/1 CRT 3 boxes of tissues @ $0.77 3 bottles of conditioner @ $3.33 - 3*$1/1 MQ =$13.95 - $4/$20 Q = $9.95 Got back $3.75 in EBs
I might go back today and get the PF lotion that is on clearance for $4.95. I got a $2/$10 beauty q in my email yesterday. Regardless, I need to go get more toothbrush Qs for next week's sale.

murphath - I didn't get the Zevia Qs, sorry! I haven't seen that soda in the stores here, so maybe it is a regional thing?

In metro Chicago we get our grocery ads on Wed for thur sales. I was, again, NOT impressed w/the natl chain ads. This am I checked my local bloggers to see if I missed anything. Nope. Nothing missed. I’ll be spending my money at the independents again. Example: Safeway has colored bell peppers for 0.99 ea, my biggest veg/fruit market had them for 0.49/lb Wed.
Since I have CONSTANT issues w/the J4U program I have printed out the deals I want. Either I get them at the register as I should or I am filing a consumer FRAUD complaint w/ the BBB, Safeway corp and IL attorney general. I know this seems like overkill BUT it is not as though I have not filed multiple complaints about this issue over months & months trying to get it resolved. WAAAY more than time to take further, concrete action to MAKE Safeway fix their problems instead of wasting my time EVERY trip going to stand in line at customer service to get pricing fixed/refund.

I always have the list with me and they will address the price at the register IF I can catch it as it goes through. This is sometimes difficult because of the way Safeway's registers work. But since CS is on my way out the door, I can always stop there and get the reimbursement. They're really good about it. I also called Safeway to ask why I had been having difficulty. Two digits of my phone number had been transposed so after that got fixed, I have not had anymore problems with J4U. Again, they were very nice about trying to figure out what was going on. moutonrouge: Thanks for checking for the 5/20 SS Zevia q's. It might just be Calif. that got those. Twinmama: did they appear in your papers?

Made it to Wags at noon today. Got the last 2 Ecotrins on the shelf. Had 2 $1MCs(not the $1.50 ), but was happy with 2 for $1 after Q's. Used the $2RR on 99 cents/can olives....all in all, better than a sharp stick in the eye. I think I have DH pretty well set for 81mg aspirins for awhile. Did the St. Josephs BOGO at RA last week using 2 of the $3.50 Q's....another nice deal. As dancin' has said, the deals are few and far between. Catch what you can with what you have is the best I can do. I've been defaulting for some of the HBA stuff to the bins by the registers at Wegmans. They're selling loss lead type prices on many HBA items that I usually have Q's for so I've been going for it. Got free Oral-B toothbrushes last week after Q's.

As dancin' has said, the deals are few and far between. Catch what you can with what you have is the best I can do. The good news is that they ARE STILL out there. You just have to be a little more patient, but it pays off.

TIA There were $2.00 tearpad coupons at Dollar General for Purina Beneful and $2.00 Q's for Whiskins (?). The larger Walmarts had bags of the Beneful for a dollar and the Whiskin was $.56. The coupons didn't specify a size. Not all Dollar Stores had the coupons either or else someone took the whole pad of them. I did leave plenty for others.

dancinmama not sure what brand you are looking for or how much food you need, but I really like the delivery companies I've used. Wag.com has 15% off your first order, and they carry almost every brand you can think of, plus delivery is free over $49. Mr. Chewy is a new one ( www.mrchewy.com) and they are offering 15% off sitewide if you sign up for a recurring delivery and free shipping on orders over $49 right now. I did this last month, and set it up to do a scheduled delivery the next month so I could get the discount, but you can cancel that any time you want over the phone. A bit of a run around, but the food we buy is on the expensive side. I've also used www.petflow.com and like them as well, but they don't have any deals right now and the food I buy is cheaper at the other 2 sites.

Not sure I can answer, but I do those sometimes. What's your question? I have a dos equis buy $5.01 of mex food and get $5 back. I live in NJ so am one of the listed NBPR states. It says that to get the rebate I have to send in the a cutout of the original UPCs for "each qualifying product packaged with a UPC". I bought little packets of taco seasoning and salsa. I can try and get the UPC off the salsa but what do I do with the taco seasoning packets if I cut the package apart? Does it mean UPCs just for the beer or does it mean all the food items? I didn't buy anything we don't eat and like so it isn't a big deal if I don't get the rebate but it is a little confusing to me. Thanks soooo much for any help you or anyone can give me!

I ventured into CVS today and bought:
1 Colgate toothbrush (in travel section) $1.19 1 Oral B Pro Clinical brush $6.29 1 Crest Clinical mouthwash $4.89 2 milky way bars $1.50 1 Fruitopia mouse $1.04 (clearance price)
Minus: $2.25 Oral B pro clinical brush 2/$1 off toothbrush CRT's $3 Crest clinical $1 off mouth wash CRT .75 off 2 milky way IP $2 Fruitopia q from RIB magazine $4 EB's Paid .91 + .66 tax = $1.57 Got $6.75 EB's back
I was happy to be able to use the Crest and Oral B q's. They were high value and we are running low on mouthwash. Plus those q's were expiring today. I left the $1 glide floss and $1.25 Crest toothpaste q's on the products in the store hoping someone can use them.

ok......this may be a silly question but how did you all find your local bloggers??? I have tried googling my city and coupons blogs and various things. I found 1 or 2 from an article in our paper about coupons but they don't seem to keep up their blogs. Any ideas what key words I should use or if there's a better way than googling??

973 - I do NBPR rebates all the time (MO is another one of the states). The UPCs are almost always for the liquor, not the other items. It is confusing the way those read. I just send in the receipt for the other items and I always get my rebate. HTH!!

Price Rite?.....me I shop there and yes they have some amazing deals. When couponing was good back in the day I didn't go in there for a couple of years but the grocery store has forced me to head into PR. regular prices are through the roof. Boxed items of food that were $1.99 are now on the shelf for up to $3.49. Someone is smoking something funny if they think I am paying those prices

I wouldn't have minded cutting the upc off a jar of salsa but emptying a bunch of taco seasoning packets and ending up with it loose even in baggies really wouldn't work for me. ;D I would also doubt that the people would want to have to handle a rebate with a meat upc label.

I haven't paid OOP for shampoo in years. Unless Salma Hyack is a fav brand, I'm not sure I'd be tempted to do this deal. That's ok, I just thought someone might be interested...it would still be free if someone has a 4/20 or another X/XX they are trying to use, or EB's to burn, etc. I'm only $6 away from my $5 Beauty EB on that card and trying to figure out how to get there. I didn't get the $3 CRT again anyway so it was a no go for me. We all get different deals...the only "free" shampoo I've gotten in 2 years is Pantene (lots and lots of Pantene) but I don't use it. I hate it...the other free shampoo I got was Head and Shoulders, tried that and hated it too. I was able to get TWO bottles of my favorite shampoo (Garnier) free recently at Price Chopper with triple coupons, but had to spend $15 to use the triplers, so, was it really free? I got free Garnier like crazy 4 years ago when I first started couponing and now never get it free...
