are you going to ask to make this thread a "sticky"? And is there going to be a list of books that people are reading?
How do I make it a sticky? I thought only mods could do that. I don't think it needs a sticky, though, if it dies in the next month, I can bump it on May 1st. No problem there.
AFAIK there are only two "official" book club books on deck. Hunger Games here (discussion of Book One to start on May 1st) and A Random Walk Down Wall Street on thyme's thread (discussion of first chapter to start Wednesday 4/4).

They also left out the couple of more violent scenes to stay within the PG13 rating.
Please please please please please tell me they left in the tracker jackers and the muttations, I am DYING to see those on the screen!!!!!!!!
ETA: I did like the control center for controlling the games. Helped the technology make more sense. Seneca Wallace was in it more overall.
I didn't even recognize that name when I saw it in the cast list until I started Book Two. She's the main Gamemaker, right?

Yes, HE (seneca wallace) is the gamemaker. It shows more his thoughts and interactions on controlling the arena. I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't seen/read it but I could talk for days about these books/movie!

Ladies No 1 Detective Agency might be one of those rare things that is actually better on screen... not because he doesn't write well, but because the depth and beauty of the scenery is just so much better on film...
I'll have to look for People of the Book.. and world war z

I'll have to look for People of the Book.. and world war z Loved the music as well. (Ladies No 1). The funny thing was, I ead the book first and had a picture in my head of how the characters looked. In the series, they looked like I had pictured them! What I really liked about the book (and the series sucessfully captured) was the subtle humor and her keen observation of human nature.

I *loved* The Hunger games! While the movie was good it was not as good as the book, mainly because as someone said you can't hear what Katniss is thinking, what drives her to do the things she does, and that's really what made me root for her in the book.

Did you guys officially decide on The Hunger Games? I was planning on reading it, anyway, because we are thinking about making it our summer reading book. Of course, part of the problem is that half the kids have already read it. But hopefully they will be so excited that they will make the other half (the non-readers that summer reading is really for) want to.

In work, I started a book cart swap. Take a book, bring a book. After some books have been around for several months, we box them and send to the military. The cart has become a big hit. I like it because I'm reading things I wouldn't normally pick. No copy of the hunger games yet thou! As long as I get a copy in the next few weeks, I'll be done by may 1. This is fun!

All right, I just went and bought The Academy by Bentley Little for my kindle after reading this thread.
Eight bucks.
That's the bad part about having an e-book, if you hear about an interesting book, it so very easy to go buy it on the spur of the moment.
Not like having to write down the title, go to a bookstore and hope they have it in stock.... It's like crack. Addictive.
This thread could get expensive for me.

Everyone loves it. It started as a place for me to get rid of my paperbacks. Sometimes we bring the books to a local senior housing complex too.

I am so excited to have somewhere to discuss the Hunger Games starting 05/01. I have already read the book (all three actually) but can't wait to talk about it.

Damn all you people! Now you've made my list of books even longer! I may need to get a second job so I can buy all these books for my NOOK. I found a book by the guy that wrote the link Bob Ross pasted on his "rich people" thread called John Dies at the End. Sounds interesting yet I am concerned that I getting a book reference from a site that Bob Ross visits.

I have the iPad with the kindle app, but I don't like to read on it. I need a regular book! I think it's the light that bothers me. I tried playing with the brightness, but still don't care for it.

I love my NOOK. It has taken some getting used to. I read too many books too fast on it and it bothered me so I put it away for awhile. Now that I am used to it it's pretty much like reading a regular book. I like being able to own dozens of books but still have one NOOK. Need a home computer so I can check out books from the library. Still not entirely sure how that works but I am going to ask someone at the library about it next time I go.

Yup, the Hunger Games is up first. We can vote on the next book after that, unless people want to go through the whole trilogy. (I'm halfway through the second book and a couple parts have made me tear up - that's pretty hard to do.)

That's why I picked the kindle - it looks very much like a book page. You can read in bright sunlight. I haven't noticed any difference between reading it and reading a paperback, except that if you're reading a big book (like SK's The Dome) you don't have to lug that big thing around. Plus it has mindless games....

What I like most about the Kindle is the ability to switch between books on the train if one is boring me. I have at least 30 books on my Kindle now, that's quite a library and it fits right in my pocket.

DH and I are going to dinner/movie tonight (my bday). We are using Groupons for the movie so we are somewhat committed on the venue and the only choice is Hunger Games. So I'm going to see the movie before I read the book. Am I screwing myself? ? It's either that or go someplace else and save the Groupon for another time but it's going to expire soon and I'm worried we won't use it in time.

I resisted just using the app on my Droid. Then I got the Kindle Fire for Christmas. I'll still get the real thing if its cheaper but I do like the Kindle a lot! Nice to have on long flights.

my library is completely out of Hunger Games. They are either checked out (and some are overdue) or being held. I requested a copy and I'm in 115th place in the queue.

If you had a Kindle app you could download it instantly... I'm just sayin'... ;D Actually, I only use my real Kindle when we're camping now (because of the extended battery life). Normal day-to-day, I use the Kindle app on my phone.
