Besides having to be welded in a vacuum zirconium is ONLY water resistant in BWR applications . What do you think the effects of sea water poured over them for two years will have on the cladding ? Possible pitting? Welds fail?
Some might find Trying to remove the fuel rods manually , considering Tepco's record , just a little disturbing.
Some examples
The building is sinking
300 tons a day of radioactive water being dumped into the ocean for the last 2 years and continues.
Readings 18 times higher than previously reported. ( have to calibrate those , oops)
fukishima fisherman and farmers can not make a living.
We are going to wish they went with water proof.
