In nothing you posted has there ever been 600,000 exposed fuel rods at risk of burning off into the environment. That's right. I didn't. There isn't. You need to supply substantiation for your statements. And you need to vet whatever sources you cite. That is the difference between you and me. www.nuc.berkeley.edu/forum/218/nuclear-expert-fukushima-spent-fuel-has-85-times-more-cesium-released-chernobyl-%E2%80%94-%E2%80%9Cit-woul[...] I asked top spent-fuel pools expert Mr. Robert Alvarez, former Senior Policy Adviser to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security and the Environment at the U.S. Department of Energy, for an explanation of the potential impact of the 11,421 rods. That doesn't look to be 600,000 rods to me, but Alex Jones seems to think so right? I looked at several sources to double check the 600.000 rod claim and could find only your buddies at InfoWars making that statement. Infowars also says that a third of West Coast children have damaged thyroids. It has also been stated that GE has fault here. That doesn't appear to be the case either. Again, you continue to deflect when asked specific questions and are now getting into the habits of either attributing comments to me that I never made, or inferring that I have somehow stated that the nuclear issue in Japan is harmless, which, again, I have never said. If you can't be accurate in your postings. I know that your 600,000 rod statement comes from the "InfoWars" site. I'll go with data on the rods from U.of C. Berkeley and Scientific American on this one. I can't believe you guys actually live your lives via Alex Jones.....

Your like the best player on my team! Lol Many of our readers might find it difficult to appreciate the actual meaning of the figure, yet we can grasp what 85 times more Cesium-137 than the Chernobyl would mean. It would destroy the world environment and our civilization. This is not rocket science, nor does it connect to the pugilistic debate over nuclear power plants. This is an issue of human survival. Again....you take the conversation somewhere else........600,000 rods is the equivalent of almost 60 Fukishimas according to Berkeley's numbers......But we know that math isn't your strong suit......LOL!!!

What about my question regarding all that nuclear testing? Come on now....you're the scientist.. Why is Fuki supposedly causing more contamination and deaths than all the nuclear weapons ever detonated above ground over a 30 year span outside of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Just looking for the answer here...
Since it's not rocket science, can you answer this question? How is it that we're still here? Why hasn't all of this above ground, in the ocean, in the atmosphere, underground testing/detonation of over 1000 thermonuclear weapons worldwide destroyed mankind? Thanks.

Title: Fukushima Daiichi Site: Cesium-137 is 85 times greater than at Chernobyl AccidentSource: Akio Matsumura Date: updated on 4/5/12 Just to be clear, the article you source is an editorial by the author named above. While he sources generic info regarding Fuku from a Berkeley spokesman, the statements you make and attribute directly to Berkeley are inaccurate and untrue. Nowhere in the article is there any direct quotes, and nowhere does anyone from Berkeley make a statement regarding "human survival". Your source, Akio Matsumura, in fact, is responsible for the statement along with a Japanese source. I would like to introduce Ambassador Murata’s letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to convey this urgent message and also his letter to Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda for Japanese readers. He emphasized in the statement that we should bring human wisdom to tackle this unprecedented challenge.
It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of Japan and the whole world depends on NO.4 reactor. This is confirmed by most reliable experts like Dr. Arnie Gundersen or Dr. Fumiaki Koide.
Oh.....I would say that it's a huge exaggeration given the fact that we still don't have an answer... Since it's not rocket science, can you answer this question? How is it that we're still here? Why hasn't all of this above ground, in the ocean, in the atmosphere, underground testing/detonation of over 1000 thermonuclear weapons worldwide destroyed mankind? Thanks.
Talk about your sheeple..... Looks like Murata is looking for some dough...It's certainly not a quote from any source at Berkeley... Again, you have, either intentionally, because of incomplete reading or lack of understanding of the written material, or intentionally, misstated the facts. So, it appears that you won't address the fact that you incorrectly stated that there are 600,000 fuel rods at Fuku, the equivalent of about 60 Fukushimas. Since you won't stick with the subject, and you won't adhere to basic facts, we'll call this conversation over.

"Maybe you have heard about sick seals, polar bears, tainted fish, mutations in dandelions and fruits and vegetables, possibly even animals already, and seaweed. In fact the kelp from Corona del Mar contained 40,000,000 bcq/kg of radioactive iodine, as reported in Scientific American several weeks ago. If you don’t know your becquerels, its a lot. That’s what your pacific fish feed on. And that was only ONE isotope reported. There were up to 1600 different isotopes that have been floating around in our air, pouring out of the reactors, and steaming out of the ground, every second of every day, for 13 months. And there has been silence from our mainstream media, for which the depths of depravity are so severe I will devote an entire article just to the “why” at a future time. But back to the research: reports in the past week indicate the pollen in southern California is radioactive now too, and it is flying around, and if you live there and go outside, you are breathing it in. And so are your children. Along with fission products blowing over from Japan. And radiation in your drinking water. And in your rain. And in the fish you are eating. And your vegetables. And the milk supply. And its happening every second, of every day. For 13 months. Are you starting to see a problem here? Problem is, that’s not even the biggest problem. The biggest problem is what Senator Wyden is all bent out of shape about, even though independent researchers and nuke experts have been warning about this for a year. And that is that the Reactor #4 building is on the verge of collapsing. Seismicity standards rate the building at a zero, meaning even a small earthquake could send it into a heap of rubble. And sitting at the top of the building, in a pool that is cracked, leaking, and precarious even without an earthquake, are 1565 fuel rods (give or take a few), some of them “fresh fuel” that was ready to go into the reactor on the morning of March 11th when the earthquake and tsunami hit. If they are MOX fuel, containing 6% plutonium, one fuel rod has the potential to kill 2.89 billion people.

Why is Fukushima supposedly causing more contamination and deaths than all the nuclear weapons ever detonated above (or below )ground, at sea, underwater, etc over a 30 year span outside of Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

The siege of "The Casino" has entered a period of uneasy truce in respect for people impacted by the horrible event in Boston. Both sides have pulled back to prevent any friction. However, since the truce was implemented, there have been several skirmishes with both sides launching statistical barrages at each other. So far no reports of casualties or damage.
On a side note, it is rumored at least 500,000 have quit the work force to come to the aid of the beleagured Sock Puppet United, Inc. forces within "The Casino". It is also rumored the PIIGS are preparing to fly their unemployed to fight on the side of good against the forces of financial evil. Reported to be included are Basque sheep herders and their Pyrenees mountain dogs to help move the sheeple out of harms way since being released from the shearing pens yesterday.
Very disturbing reports are starting to filter out concerning findings inside "The Casino" now that the mirrors have been shattered and the pieces cleared away along with the smoke. If true, revelation of "THE TRUTH" or at least one of "THE TRUTHS" may be imminent, spelling real trouble for somebody. Stay tined for further details as they emerge and are confirmed.

Bombs , atolls or Chernobyl will pale to Fukushima.www.hiroshimasyndrome.com/confusion-about-fallout.html"Fallout is essentially the ash and dirt particles caused by large explosions and/or the demolition of large structures, which was so graphically displayed by the collapse of the World Trade Centers in 2001. The biological effects of the fallout of dust and microscopic debris on 9/11/2001 were unquestionably horrible. Nuclear weapon’s fallout has the added biological hazard of being intensely radioactive. It's the instantaneous avalanche of neutrons spewed forth by a nuclear weapon detonation that makes the dispersed dust and debris radioactive. Neutron is the only form of radiation which can cause other materials to become radioactive. The avalanche of neutrons is the only reason why atomic bomb fallout is radioactive. Thus with nuclear fallout, the air is not only fouled by the thick fog of dust, the dust is also significantly radioactive. The thick dust fog scenario is virtually impossible for power plant reactor accidents, even for the worst-ever nuclear reactor accident at Chernobyl. The invisible concentrations of microscopic radioactive dust and radioactive gasses from Chernobyl were considerable and resulted in significant short-term biological consequences. But, even the atmospheric release of radioactive material from Chernobyl was many, many times less concentrated than would be the case with nuclear weapon’s fallout. However, this comparison only holds for Chernobyl, a type of nuclear plant only built by the old USSR; a type of plant judged by America to be too dangerous to be considered, soon after World War II. The plants used in the West cannot have Chernobyl-type accidents, and the worst possible invisible radioactive release from a Western nuclear power plant is thousands, if not millions of times less than Chernobyl. The mis-association between weapon’s fallout and Western nuclear reactor accidents makes even less sense than with Chernobyl." I'm no expert, but I'm thinking that 1000 nuclear detonations, with Chernobyl thrown in for good measure, will not "pale" in comparison to Fukushima. As far as I know, Japan still exists and still has live people living there....

Ya, but they don't need all the energy Fukushima isn't generating due to all the reactors melting down because now everything glows in the dark, including the ocean... I worked at Hanford. You should see the size of the elk living on the reservation! They not only glow in the dark, but their eyes glow all the time. And the rabbits, man you should see the rabbits after they licked the radioactive salts from the hidden underground bunkers. Boy, did their droppings ever glow. Wow! By the way, have you ever heard of irradiated glass? Any idea how it gets "irradiated"? Stories abound about tank farm operators lowering glass on strings down the risers in those storage tanks in the 40's and 50's, then selling the glass pieces after they'd been "irradiated". I'd tell you more, but my "Q" clearance prevents me from doing so. They'd have to take you out into the sagebrush on a one-way visit and I'd be put so far, far away I would be able to see the Star Trek galaxy out my tiny cell window. Hoot!Hoot! disclaimer - I'm trying to throw humor at a very serious, misunderstood and under reported issue. By the way, there is radiation everywhere from natural sources. Besides, we're all gonna die at some point anyway, so why sweat it?

Chernobyl was sealed in 10 days . Fukushima is dumbing large amounts of radioactive material in our Pacific Ocean. Fukushima is over 2 years going and still dumping poison . Soon those deep purple , gray and black area of contamination will just grow. Now that's a lot of water. To think it will not have an effect on our marine life. What can I tell ya!

Sorry. I'm not seeing the levels you cite above in the text. The text also appears to be a blog and contradicts itself as far as the comparison to Chernobyl. " shows that Chernobyl released around ten thousand times more radioactive cesium each day during the reactor fire. But the Chernobyl fire only lasted 10 days … and the Fukushima release has been ongoing for more than 2 years so far." They go on to say that Fuku has released more than Chernobyl but how could that be over 720 days when the Chernobyl release was 10,000 times more per day initially? it would appear that Fuku would have to release for over 9000 more days to equal Chernobyl. Again, the "source" is not very clear. Also not seeing anything about a 15.7 million year half life in the text you cite, but I did find your "actual" source: www.washingtonsblog.com/2013/04/is-fukushima-leaking-or-is-the-the-reactor-wholly-uncontained.html. We'll cover your "actual source" in a few minutes. Continuing, I also didn't see the words "huge amounts" in the text you originally cited. I did see that I-129 also occurs naturally. And, according to the text, it appears that levels of contamination of the type discussed are lower than levels measured after nuclear testing in the 70's. There is no mention of Fukushima dwarfing anything, of leaking for "millennia", but if it makes you feel better to say so, so be it. What is mentioned in the text more prominently is the 50 day half live of certain substances. The text did not appear to indicate or warn of imminent demise or extreme hazard or danger. That's not to say that the event is not significant, but it would appear to be nowhere near the scale that you suggest. If you would like to provide quotes from sources supporting your position, it would be more informative than simply providing a link. Lets be accurate in depicting life in the area and the reason for the current situation. You imply that the big impact to life in the area is due to the power plant. Lets be clear as far as your "street views" are concerned. The impact was due to an earthquake and following tsunami. People were evacuated because of the plant issue, but the huge amount of damage was earthquake and tsunami. Japan: Before and After the Earthquake and Tsunami Pre- and post-disaster imagery in Google Street View And who, exactly.....are these "experts" at "Washingtonsblog.com"? Lets see: Who Are We?<!-- .entry-meta --> Numerous people have asked us who writes Washington’s Blog and why we write under a pen name. In fact, some of the leading writers have used pen names. As one of the best financial writers – Tyler Durden of Zero Hedge – points out (edited slightly for readability): Though often maligned (typically by those frustrated by an inability to engage in ad hominem attacks), anonymous speech has a long and storied history in the United States. Used by the likes of Mark Twain (aka Samuel Langhorne Clemens) to criticize common ignorance, and perhaps most famously by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay (aka publius) to write the Federalist Papers, we think ourselves in good company in using one or another nom de plume. Particularly in light of an emerging trend against vocalizing public dissent in the United States, we believe in the critical importance of anonymity and its role in dissident speech. Like the Economist magazine, we also believe that keeping authorship anonymous moves the focus of discussion to the content of speech and away from the speaker – as it should be. We believe not only that you should be comfortable with anonymous speech in such an environment, but that you should be suspicious of any speech that isn’t.
George – website owner and lead writer – is a busy professional, a former adjunct professor, an American and a family man. He is post-partisan … believing that neither the Republican nor Democratic parties represent the interests of the people as opposed to the big banks, major corporations, and the military-industrial complex. But our background is less important than the fact that we provide links to document everything we say, so you can check its accuracy for yourself.
Oh yeah.......These guys are the shit......No experts and no accountability. Lots of anonymity though. Nice to see Zero Hedge figures in there too......LOL!!!!!

Wonder what they mean by exclusion Zone? Japan is an Island! It's shrinking. So much for your empty streets tsunami theory?!
Namie is one of five towns, two cities, and two villages that lie partially or wholly within a 12.4-mile radius of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant—designated by the government as a no-go zone. Like all the towns in the nuclear exclusion zone, it essentially no longer exists. Of its 21,000 residents, 7,500 have scattered across Japan. Another 13,500 live in temporary housing in the Fukushima region. They're among more than 70,000 "nuclear refugees" displaced by the world's worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl.

Here....I'm surprised you missed this one damn.... President G. Bush often referred to the well known “mushroom cloud” as a terrorist signature. Nope, just standard operating procedure (SOP) in the stationary nuclear weapons biz-ness, otherwise known worldwide as “Nuclear Power Reactors.” Except, in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Weapons, the biggest ever, the “mushroom” portion is invisible and has engulfed the whole world with 70 Billion Radioactive Lethal Doses* – so far. There’s more on the way. Truly, it is as if the entire world is At War! The dreaded all-out nuclear war that would happen if Russia or the United States accidentally “Pressed The Button” is going on right now; it is a done deal. Imagine that! The same thing as detonating 2,000 big Atomic Bombs and not even one “BOOM!” Not a shot fired, yet we could all die!
No giant forest fires, no burning cities creating their own hellish, uncompromising firestorms. None of that; but, every bit of the radioactive contamination such an Atomic World War would create; and probably more. For unbelievably, there are more Japanese reactors about to blow. It’s a chain reaction. It remains a thinly veiled secret of the nuclear powers that it only takes about 300 One Megaton nukes to target the entire world. Typically, the world’s nuclear weapons arsenals were originally built with a 350 year shelf life for major components. In fact, the radioactive materials are “safer” locked away securely in heavily guarded Atomic Bombs, than in loosely managed reactors run by utility companies for supposedly “peace time” purposes. The worldwide nuclear war we’ve got is not the war we feared. For now, we all wait and try to avoid the 10 radioactive particles set free for each of us on Earth, from Fukushima’s triggered stationary nuclear weapons. Feel free to figure out how to dodge lethal, airborne particles you can’t see. So far, the Fukushima disaster for Planet Earth is by no means resolved. The Powers That Be at TEPCO (the Tokyo Electric Power Company) and General Electric, makers of the reactors that created this killer, worldwide, invisible mist, say that they might get a handle on the situation in “six to nine months.[1]”
The seven billion people on Earth don’t have “six to nine months.” Every single day that goes by the radioactive Fukushima Volcano slaughters more of us – silently with deadly radiation now or, years from now, with the inevitable cancer pandemic that will follow.
The ten thousand trillion counts[2] of radiation gushing forth per hour bring mortal illness to many of us. Aye, maybe even for most of us our own deaths are written on the Fukushima Radioactive Volcano Wind.
Make no mistake about it. Many of us will die from the Fukushima Nuclear Weapon. Go ahead; try to read the wind. You must have a Radiation Monitor to even start. A good one costs $400.00. The price excludes most of us. It's the end of the world.................................
