POM you are particular. Ken, that is so much nicer sounding than "a pain in the ass". I'm exalting you after Angel.

Ok, now I am googling the menage a trois red wine...heck, I just like the name of it. Looks like our crappy wine and spirits store carries it. But POM, you said you don't like dry wines....is it on the sweeter side? It's a bearable red. Not too dry. But I think I like the Pinot and Shiras better. They all keep better than most too. You don't have to polish off the whole bottle in one night, unless you just want to.

Real Zinfandel is red. So-called "White Zinfandel" which is a blush wine, is much more common and I have been served it when I asked for Zinfandel. Zinfandel is a tasty red that goes well with pastas with a Bolognese sauce because it cuts through the acid and the grease. LOL, I had no idea that it was actually a red wine...I was never a wine drinker until I found Red Cat.

White zin is the devil! You give white zin to your enemies! BF's dad's girlfriend likes Menage a Trois red. That's another one you could try, especially since it does come recommended. I find that if I want a wine for drinking while I'm relaxing (as opposed to eating), I'd go for a pinot noir or any light-bodied red.

Jacobs Creek is a low cost, but pretty good Pino Noir. I like it chilled. I almost didn't buy it because it has a twist cap. But actually I like that better. It's user friendly.

A little levity here....
For Wine Connoiseurs…..
BENTONVILLE, ARKANSAS-
Wal-Mart customers will soon be able to sample a new discount item–Wal-Mart’s own brand of wine. The world’s largest retail chain is teaming up with Ernest & Julio Gallo Winery of Modesto, California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2 – $5 range.
While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand wine into their shopping carts, “There is a large market for cheap wine,” said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at R. Williams University in Bristol, R.I. “The right name is definitely important.”
So, here we go…The TOP 12 suggested names for Wal-Mart Wine…
12) Chateau Traileur Parc
11) White Trashfindel
10) Big Red Gulp
9) Grape Expectations
Domaine Wal-Mart “Merde du Pays”
7) NASCARbernet
6) Chef Boyardeaux
5) Peanut Noir
4) Chateau des Moines
3) I Can’t Believe It’s Not Vinegar!
2) World Championship Riesling
And the # 1 suggested name for Wal-Mart Wine…
1) Nasti Spumante

There are actually a couple of over $10 wines I get that are twist caps. I have my own stoppers I use to keep them over night. And red wine is good slightly chilled. I put most of my wines in the fridge for 20 minutes before I open them.

Re: Walmart wine We have had these for years. They are called, "Night Train," "Thunderbird" or MadDog 20/20. Please note that the vaunted Gallo Winery was the leading manufacturer of these ultra-low end wines and it was their most famous trademark before they went respectable. They are still profitable, although sold on the Q-T. No one wants to be known as the favorite label of derelicts. Hey, I like MadDog

I only drink dry wines, red or white. sweet ones give me nasty headaches the next day. anyway, here's what I've been drinking lately, hope you find something you like: check out Malbecs from Argentina/Chile - cheaper than the Bordeaux from France, but just as good if not better dry Italian reds are great too. a couple not-so-well known varietals are Montepulciano, comes from Abruzzi, and Nero d'Avola from Sicily. Capestrano is a decent $10/bottle brand of Montepulciano, I've seen it all over New England. just before Christmas, I found a new blend that I absolutely love - cabernet/carmenere by Cono Sur. it's an organic wine, carmenere kind of does the merlot-lace thing when you swirl it in the glass. that turned into my go-to holiday red this year.

Yes, Zinfandel is a red wine.
White Zin isn't, it's a blush.

Ok... I need to go wine drinking with toughtimes and Meg. <3. POM you chill your Pinot Noir? <<unfriends POM>>. Yes, Zinfandel is a red wine. I haven't had too many that I've liked. Cab is still my favorite. Tina, do you have some local wineries where you can go for a tasting? Or a wine bar that serves flights? (small servings of 4-6 wines that you can taste?) Best cab I know costs about $120 a bottle, depending on year. Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Heitz Vineyards in northern California. Best zinfandel for the price is Ridge Vineyards Paso Robles Zinfandel at a bit less than $30; all recent years are good, even 2007. Yum!

I was about to say if I had a $120 to go wine shopping, I'd come back with a lot more than one bottle.
