Question: Any of you have a good recipe for preparing a small ham? We usually do lamb or pork on Easter as my DH does not like ham. But he's decided to succumb to group pressure and allow the ham this year.

But he's decided to succumb to group pressure and allow the ham this year. I love ham and it's one of the easiest things in the world to prepare. I just put pineapple rings on the outside with toothpicks, bake it covered with foil for the recommended amount of time. About 30 minutes prior to being done, I take the foil off, use the reserved pineapple juice, add a little brown sugar to it, and pour it over the ham, finish baking uncovered to brown. Easy peasy and so yummy!

Quote: Duh! I forgot to answer the question from FreeSalsa. My middle name is CRS! I work (and used to live) right by Diamond Head on Oahu - very close to Kahala Mall. Home prices were just way too expensive in town, but we were lucky to find a great deal (you can hound anything!) on a fixer-upper in Aiea, that looks out over Pearl Harbor, very close to the Arizona Memorial & Pearlridge Shopping Center & Aloha Stadium (home of the Pro-Bowl).
Does Erica I- -CVS do a target version? There is now a Target within a reasonable distance, so I need to learn about double-dipping with them. Any good websites for Target?
Hi HiTenney, Oahu sounds great and so does your location and hounded house! I've been doing better with Target lately than I used to when they wouldn't take any of my coupons. They must have gotten some training. I've been finding deals on packaged foods and HBA and cleaning products. Not much for free but at least cheaper than the grocery and drug stores. I've been using coupon mom for her list but now I'll check out totally target.

Quote: Thank you murpath. I do miss hounding, but unfortunately, daily exercise is my primary goal. I try to check in every now and then, but it just isn't enough. Sorry, hounds. I follow the 80%/20% "Rule:" I eat healthy 80% of the time, and the remainder 20% of the time, I "relax" the "rules" a bit.
I exercise for about an hour and a half, 5 days a week.
Most of the medical community seem to warn us (people with potential heart problems (High BP and cholesterol) about the perils of eating too much red meat. Ditto for my cancer hospital. Dang! Can't even eat anymore......
I also want to say that eating more fruits and vegetables has not only aided me in my weight loss, but brought down my HBP and blood sugar levels. I am not diabetic, but I don't want to be, so I am trying to be more careful.
Eating a little more fruits and vegetables has helped decreased my food bill. Why? Meats are somewhat expensive and I have found vegetables and fruits to be cheaper in general.
I am glad that not too many of you have had to make the decisions food-wise that I have. I wish you good karma and good health, regardless of what you choose to eat.
When I was younger, I just did not realize that the so many foods has so much sodium, fat, and carbs in them. This type of eating, plus my family history, has unfortunately "caught up" with me.
My younger sister has also had some problems. She has just been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the colon; in a location that is very near to the rectum. She is only 52. The expert doctors at our cancer hospital admit that this may have been a "family" trait, but we are not sure where it came from. I have also had some pre-cancerous cells in my uterus, plus a borderline tumor found in one of my ovaries. I was largely overweight.
Who knows where this came from, but they also site some correlations between meat/fat and cancer with not enough fiber. This is all of interest for me, given the health challenges that we have had.Hi Suzi! I started eating better and exercising about three years ago (you know my organic fruit!) and I feel sooo much better. I hardly ever get sick any more (knock on wood). It could be the way they process the meat that is part of the problem too. (Oh no, I've been reading up on things again...) I'm sorry you've had so many problems but it seems you're on the mend now. Keep us posted! Miss you.... P.S. An hour and a half a day of exercise is a lot!

Strange. I do not think Safeway really wants our business. Not only are there CONSTANT issues w/their J4U deals and pricing being accurate but this week’s ad does NOT even show any J4U promos. On a holiday weekend where we are MOST likely to be shopping yet. Guess I know who will be getting my business. Yep, the independent stores where I generally shop for better prices, so much better that is still a better deal even w/them NOT taking IPs.

Heads up: CVS Rx Problems Wherever you fill your Rx make sure the pill count is correct. I got an Rx last Sept, which I fill, at CVS. FOUR of 8 fills I have been short 1-2 pills. When I first noticed this in Jan I complained to the store and pharmacy mgr. This time I escalated it to the DM who pushed up the ladder to corp. Bottom line: CVS corp feels this is an issue ONLY affecting me and NOT important enough to do ANYTHING about. Well, it IS to me. I am defiantly transferring the RX elsewhere and I get NOTHING (like a gift card) for that as I am on Medicare. Now I have to decide if I should start filing regulatory & insurance company complaints. IF you find yourself short pilled I would like to know and would appreciate you filing complaints w/the drug chain. That way I ‘might’ not look like such an idiot. Marvholly, I have had the same problem also! And the next time it happens, I intend to complain up a storm! But unfortunately, I can only fill my scripts at CVS.

Apparently there's quite the uproar over no Tuna Pouch coupons today. I haven't checked personally, but they are getting slammed with negative comments on FB. That was a good promo while it lasted. I think next year during Lent I'll print them from every single computer at my work.

Interesting that your Safeway ad shows J4U deals--mine never does. Maybe a blurb about the program but I get the coupon deals/personalized deal alerts via email. Then I log in, click on the ones I want and off I go. Got a $3 off $10 produce J4U and a $2.99 for 3lbs. organic apples. So I combined that with their grapes and strawberries sale last Friday and paid $7 for 3 lbs. strawberries, 3 lbs. organic granny smith apples, 1 organic tomato, and 1 lb. green grapes at $1.49 lb.. I had some issues with the J4U program initially but they seem to have gotten them worked out. I just check my receipt before leaving the store and if I didn't get the price I was supposed to , I go to CS and they are always very nice about refunding the money. It's a bit of a hassle but a hound's gotta do what a hound's gotta do!

Re prescription and "lost" pills. Just a thought here: does your pharmacy use a pill counter? or does the pharm tech do it personally? I can see someone getting an Rx wrong every now and then. I would just make sure the next time that they count out the pills in front of me. I don't think I'd take the complaint all the way to the state. It may have been a legitimate mistake. Besides, that sounds like too much work. ;D Especially if that's your regular pharmacy and you need something from them in the future. When my mom was being treated for breast cancer, she had to take tamoxifen (sp?) every day. One month we noticed she was short two pills. We told the pharmacist when we went back for the next month's prescription so he just made sure to count out the pills in front of us. We didn't make a big deal out of it. A year later my poor mom was hit by a car (she was walking in a parking lot and the car backed into her). She ended up with a broken leg and had to spend a month in a wheelchair. When I went to rent it from the pharmacy (who knew they had wheelchairs?), the pharmacist gave it to us at no charge. It really wasn't about the money--we had it--it was more about his doing an unexpectedly nice thing for my mom.

Murpath, nice job at Safeway. I stopped in at Jewel/Albertsons for "a gallon of milk" and came out with more than I expected, but, I'm kind of pleased. The store had some B1G1 on some meats. I picked up two Purdue oven stuffers, after sale price: .99/#, Dakota steaks, after sale price $2.00/#. We are now stocked on chicken and beef. I also picked up a JennyO turkey breast tenderloin (on sale). Never tried one, but it looked interesting. There is a $10.00 MIR on Miller Beer after $20. in store purchase (IL residents only) so, of course I had to do that! Milk was $2.79/gallon. Like Holly, independent markets are (I believe) better for produce in our area. On the way home from work yesterday, I stopped at Valli and picked up sweet potatoes at .39/#.
