I'll have to say reading this page of posts has been enlightening to me. I think when you are dealing with an area that no one on the board may have intimate knowledge of it is going to be easy to run afoul of expectations and misunderstandings.
I do know all project cars can eat money and rarely are they worth anywhere near what was done to them unless you sell into the sub group that is into what your project car is. I think in Z's case the decision point for a project car may be harder than those into older vehicles as if you compete in the newest, latest, coolest categories one day your vehicle won't win anymore and its time to start over. I don't know where that point really is and Z really hasn't explained that because I think his intention is to use this space as more of a stream of conciousness posting space.
It points out why certain people gravitate to slamming me at times because I am doing a similar thing and I don't know how to distill a life philosophy, which while becoming somewhat more mainstream, still is decades of study for a more real world person. We post from our own point of view and sometimes we might be the only one in our crowd as it were and no one else who actually posts really understands. I think the best we can do is to be polite and perhaps sometimes not engage when someone's hot buttons are pushed and it doesn't have anything to do with the real issue we might be posting about.
Z, only you here probably knows whether keeping your car or moving on to the next one is the right thing for you now.

You've already posted that you've gotten tickets for illegal headlights (and running lights) among other things while driving it in your state.(That alone is worth a few hundred - if not more, dollars). So how can you say it's street-legal? Once again (for the third time) what make/model/year is your car to classify it as a show car? What have you done to customize it to qualify it as a real show-car? And are these shows international - where you travel from state-to-state or country with your road crew to display it? Do you enter rallies/road-runs? Show & Shine competitions? Or just some local/community car exhibit?
There's so many things you've posted that make me see that this isn't a money-making car - and you're pouring more money into it than you're ever going to get back. So you've won a trophy - does that pay for the upkeep and maintenance? You've had an offer from someone who's willing to buy it - and instead of taking the offer, you're going to hold onto it and continue pouring "thousands of dollars" (according to you) back into it. The car (based on what you've previously posted), is probably worth (at most) maybe 2 grand.

I know all about show cars with tinted windows, special lighting and custom paint-jobs, Opti. I've already said that. My family's very much involved in car shows and exhibits. Zaire's car, from his previous posts, is just some ordinary car that he's put illegal running lights and headlights on, tinted the windows, and has the wrong sized tires opn (based on his previous posts). It's not a street-legal car, which is why he keeps getting tickets and citations. It's only 15 years old, so it doesn't even qualify as "Classic" in International shows.
He says it's an import car - but hasn't said what make/model it is. Even Toyota's might be classed as "import", but they're also made in the good old US of A. I know SL, but you know probably the old American car scene part that does this. It is different from the Japanese import tuner scene. Yes they start with ordinary cars like Honda Civics, etc. but again that is the point of that particular car scene. This is the Japanese car tuner scene so Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, etc. and it doesn't matter whether they are made here or abroad. It mimics the same car scene which also exists in Japan to my knowledge. His class by definition is non-street legal cars which is why it takes a certain kind of person who wants to compete in that class and drive such a car on the road. Not my thing, but it does have its adherents.

Z has posted he travels to various states for the shows he enters. His car shows are not divvied up by car make/model/year. Its more of a purpose thing with the caveat the car must be considered a Japanese vehicle. Kind of like SCCA car race classes. Each class has its own rules, acceptable mods, and target vehicles that fit the class.

I don't know if this will muddy things more or not, but since I know bits about various car scenes I think perhaps this might be the sticking point for you SL. In the old American car scene the desireable cars and the show cars are predominately fun cars from the past not the boring sedans and people mover cars.
In the Japanese tuner scene, a good portion of that scene is to take ordinary people mover cars and make them cool. Cool can be lighting effects, painting, interior, power mods, etc.
I had a Honda Accord so I used to get a magazine from my Honda dealer which showed various ways to have fun with your Honda. I'm more interested in racing than cleaning and showing off a car, however some of the cheaper to be in SCCA racing car classes intersect with the popular cars of the Japanese tuner scene, so I am familar with the cars used, etc.
That's why also to me I think the Fiero you posted is cool because it reminds me of the Toyota MR2 which used to be a very popular car to race.

Those posts of yours you quoted are over a year old - and still doesn't explain how much money you've poured into this 15 year old car - and how much you've made back (in competitions) to make it worth-while. Sounds to me like a losing proposition, You've put about 10x more money into the vehicle than it's actually worth. You should have jumped at the offer someone made to you to buy it just this week.

Zaire, remove the statement accusing SL of "intentionally posting false statements". If you don't remove it, I will. That's not only unnecessary, it's not something you know for sure. Now, remove it.

When you've gotten the statement out of the first post, Zaire, you can remove the statement in Reply # 127. You don't KNOW anything about what SL "already knows". Nobody here is so absolutely fascinating that we remember every word they've ever typed. Now, get that statement out of that post, too.

You'd best be concentrating on removing the content I've told you to remove, Zaire. The first comment to be removed is in Reply #119.

Now, you've got Reply #131 to clean up, Zaire. You're batting 1000. Take out all comments in that post that tell SL what she "already knows". That's not something YOU know.
You've got ten minutes. Then, the posts go poof.

SL, do most people actually win enough money to pay for their car mods, etc.? My impression is most attendees of any type of car shows do it for the love of it in spite of the huge money loss. Lots like car racing. Only at certain levels, usually pro, do some make money. Its not like if he starts over the car will ever be worth what he puts into it unless he sells it to a fellow enthusiast when it is on its beginning streak of winning that car class.

Okay, Zaire, we're good to go. Just get that temper under control and don't post personal comments about other posters, whether it's an administrator, or not. You don't know what others know, so you can't say what others know. You can't call others liars, no matter the terms you choose to couch it in. It's not acceptable. I was just about ready to lock this thread. Let's not get there again, eh?

I don't understand. If it passes inspections, why do you keep getting tickets for all your modifications?

Don't you live in New Jersey? You answered your own question why you're getting tickets for illegal tinted windows.
You don't need tinted windows because you can't stand the sun - you can wear sunglasses - or use your visor. Don't leave things on your car seat - lock them in the glove compartment or trunk. An installed car alarm is all you need for everything else.
All driving infractions, and your fault. That's why you get fined.
Again, you answered your own question. You're doing things that are illegal. THAT's why you get so darned many tickets & fines. I'm surprised that they haven't impounded your car with all the tickets you've received - are you getting de-merit points against your license too?

Z, with the treadwear rating on your tires I'd expect them to last 40K miles minimum, possibly lower with your driving but not 21K. then again, he probably drives like he posts...

You're going to try to send back the old broken set on the receipt you have for the new ones? That's outright fraud.
You don't think they'll KNOW it's not the same set that you just purchased?

Umm, Zaire ... it's probably not the most brilliant move I've ever seen to post on the internet about the frauds you're perpetrating, and have been perpetrating. It's sorta like walking in a crowded mall telling everyone about it in the loudest possible voice.
