I love hanging out at cemeteries I find them so peaceful especially in the city. It's a quiet place where you can sit by a grave, read a book, watch people, and bask in the rays of the sun and think about mortality.
How about you?

I like cemeteries, but not for the same reasons. DH and I go to old and historically significant cemeteries. Any cemetery associated with a Civil War battlefield or prison site, and some of the old southern cemeteries (Charleston and Savannah have some great old cemeteries).
Most recent stops were the cemeteries at Antietam National Battlefield and Oak Hill Cemetery and Botanical Garden in Georgetown, Washington D.C.

I love Trinity Church in NY, I believe Alexander Hamilton and John Jay are buried there.

Are you also fascinated with morgues?
Not me.
I hated anatomy and the smell of formaldehyde, OR having to do autopsies during my pathology rotation.
Fat people are OK alive but once their bodies are in formaldehyde it's reeeaaallly terrible.

Headstones often have words of wisdom for the living.
Cemeteries tho' peaceful also represents 'remorse' for family members.

"Do you like cemeteries?"
They're a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Deb you aren't fascinated with morgues because you work in one. One time when I'm in Chicago you'll have to give me a tour but clean up before, OK?

Sorry you are misinformed and stating an untruth. I've never worked in a morgue. But we can talk about other live people interesting cases. Like this 70 y/o guy who had a vibrator up his rectum. He said he was dilating his rectum to prevent rectal stricture that would make having a bowel movement difficult...He claims he sneezed and oooopppps then it slid into him. Life and the joy of life is my passion

OMG, I love old cemeteries. I grew up close to the one where Hank Williams is buried. Sat on a bluff and watched the "circus" Played hide and seek in same cemetery. I still have all my "pencil rubbings" that I did on notebook paper. No matter where I travel, I try to check out older cemeteries. I know, I am probably sick

I love visiting historical cemeteries. In college, I took an Intro to Archeology class and one of our assignments was to pick a section of an older cemetery, make charcoal rubbings of the headstones, and try to extrapolate what might have been going on during the time these people died. it was pretty interesting to find whole bunches of graves where people died the same year, even the same month. We'd come up with a hypothesis of why and then fact check to see if we were close. Usually it was some kind of outbreak or a time of unrest. It was a cool assignment.

No shame in my game as I don't do the morgue work you seem to be so fond of. [Plus those jobs don't pay that much ] I wouldn't go thru all that training for that!!! 'til some other time when you're feeling better. Later Gator............

I am constantly amazed at how much jewelry and gold fillings are buried with the deceased. And not just in your fancy-schmancy cemeteries, either.
One time .....
No, that story will have to wait for another day .........

Everyone on the shift was marveling how big it was setting there in the disposal can.

Visited a cemetary in Vienna that had WWII heros buried there, including the man that lead the troops when Vienna was freed. Can't remember his name but both he and his wife are there with honors.
Visited an old cemetary around Independence CA and noticed a family buried there, date 1870s?. Mom and five kids within a month ...... smallpox. Several families there like that.

No. I've been around enough dead people to have to many memories.

I think the VA cemetery in Houston is very peaceful with lakes and greenery. I go soak in the serenity and sit on a bench by my late husbands "wall" a few times a year. Maybe I figure I may as well get used to the place since I will "live" there someday for a very long time. Is this creepy?

I walk through ours and wonder how long before you're forgotten except as a name on a family tree

I walk through ours and wonder how long before you're forgotten except as a name on a family tree I figure I'll get cremated and someone can just my ashes (if they're feeling sentimental they can it on my property under the trees). I don't feel the need to have a place marked "forever" and don't see any reason for anyone to waste money on a coffin or even an urn (just send me home in a paper baggie). Some graveyards have some cool tombstones, just not want I need/want.

Apple, I go back and forth about that too. But then when I do see a gorgeous, peaceful cemetery I think that would be a nice place to be forever. They always have the most gorgeous Oaks and lakes. But I am leaning towards cremation too, and being fertilizer for my garden or trees one day.
And Savannah, GA and New Orleans have really nice cemeteries too.

I'm leaning towards creamation, just because being buried alive, or drowning, or otherwise being unable to breathe is the closest I have to an actual phobia. I mean, I know I'll be dead already anyway, but I still don't even want to think about it. I do appreciate old cemetaries though, just for the historical references, the architecture and design of some of the tombstones, the landscaping, etc. It doesn't really seem creepy to me, just peaceful and neat.
