Virg, what we have is trend. It's funny that wxyz brings up the oil spill because that is about the time that I first started talking about this crazy idea of "re shoring".

Over the last two years a Firm from Boston come out with the predictions: 2010 wage equality by 2015, and 2011 three million manufacturing jobs created by 2020. You made the swipe about the wage increase, the 42% y-o-y. Which plays right into the trend that I was seeing, and the one that the Boston Consulting Group is also seeing.

Then of course, there was the part of the analysis where I was saying this "reshoring" would cause a problems with the Chinese export market to the USA. Again, above, an Article from 2011, now completely confirming what I am saying about re shoring, in fact they attribute a drop in FDI to re shoring.

What is significant about this, is again another part of my analysis, early in 2010. The only way out of the mess that China will find themselves in(look at all the rioting going on at plants because of lost overtime and wages due to drop in exports) is to increase domestic consumption, or face a civil war. This will cause more prosperity in other third world countries. Now....

I pray you're right Ham! I feel in my heart Decoy and Jarhead are though. But, there is no "winner" here. I suspect they would be happy to be wrong. This doesn't have to be about ego, but rather reality. I believe the reason we haven't seen a massive bout of inflation is because all the newly created money has yet to gain velocity. It's all on bank balance sheets... keeping them from insolvency. BUT, it's also keeping their bonuses going which is sad. Wages simply aren't going to keep pace with inflation and the American people won't stand for austerity. They've grown accustomed to handouts. We ALL get them... me included. I see many patients who have government insurance. Without it, they would simply go without my services. I'm preparing for this to end.

Ya, well the biggest thing you have to remember that all these analysts and economists didn't even have it on their radar that there was even the slightest possibility of China just giving debt back. As you can see from the new speculation, at least someone did.

They can't sell that much debt on the open market, it would be a disaster. They can't use it because it was bought at a terrible exchange rate to the yuan, so the best thing they can do, is literally set the bonds up in a trust that will pump money into; hopefully a secondary reserve system that will be made up of state run banks like the bank of ND.

This will effectively be the you guys rebuilding yourselves with your own debt. Yes, you can thank JC for that!

Apple Inc is famous for relying on low-cost Asian manufacturers to both source and assemble its popular gadgets, but the consumer device giant recently started receiving a critical component in its iPad and iPhones from closer to home - Texas.

The A5 processor - the brain in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 - is now made in a sprawling 1.6 million square feet factory in Austin owned by Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, according to people familiar with the operation.

Great points, when you think about it, this board should be able to flourish now. The fact is, if you add on 2009 and 2010's doom and gloom from the old MT, you have three full years of information that was completely misleading, and literally and handful of people that were trying to speak the truth. At this point, we should be able to have some respect around this board and be able to post our thoughts with having to worry about being attacked. It's fairly obvious that we aren't the ones on fantasy island.

The reshoring phenomenon is real. Not only are more OEMs coming back, many aren't even going in the first place. Obviously they're heard all the horror stories - or experienced these first hand themselves and been the subject of one of my blogs on getting what you pay for, deserving what you get, etc. A few moldmakers have said that their customers have quit asking for a "China bid," settling instead for the mold manufacturer's best price.

The important part about that last article is that there is a macro trend, inside of the overall tread of reshoring. If you read all the articles you will notice the common theme of, the lack of skilled workers. What's interesting about this; while the mainstream is spouting off about the lack of good paying jobs the reality is that on the street we have confirmation from a 35 yr vet in the manufacturing industry that....

"I was reading an article in one of the trade publications I receive concerning my area of interest. As I have noted and believed for some time, there is a shortage of skilled labor in this country.

Whether it be machinists, operators of machines, technicians, or even engineering positions requiring areas of expertise, we are really behind the eight-ball when it comes to filling these positions. In a recent survey, several hundred owners, company presidents and even CEO's stated that there are over 600,000 openings in this country for the above mentioned positions and that will increase to over a million in the next five years at the present state of fulfillment.

Six hundred thousand positions! Where are all these people. There has to be people with these skills looking for work. These are not minimum wage jobs, but very high paying positions. Are the skilled people in the upper age bracket and have just given up because they think no one will hire them?

I would solicit your feedback. Maybe we should target the older generation to fill these positions? (no offense to our younger readers and posters). I remember when I started in the industry I've spent 35 years in, we had a large contingent of WWII generation as machinists and engineers that were itching to pass down knowledge to us younger guys.

Maybe it's time to tap into that same skill set to provide our for future needs? "

In metropolitan Washington, D.C., the near-poverty line became $80,500. In New York, it’s now $78,500; in Boston, $68,900; and Chicago, $68,600.

One result: The income level for “near poverty” is now very close to the median household income in most communities. (Median income means half the households have more income and half have less.)

So it should be no surprise that, with these new standards, the Census Bureau “discovered” that almost half the U.S. population lives in or “near” poverty. The system is designed to produce that result.

LOL... I like that one, I guess if your a real big fan of the monarchy, oppression, and other things of this nature, I can understand how you would be upset that the dollar has overthrown the kings and queens rule.

The one thing I would like to know about all of the people who present history in this manner is; can they show me a time in history when the little people of all races, sexes, and abilities have had a better time to succeed than during the history that the USA has brought the world?

Because that is my reality, and a few others I know as well. That is what I base my economic views on, and it seem like more and more people are seeing the way that we do.

Balances of power, including increased responsibility in the middle east for China and Russia, are allowing the United States to exit some of its military commitments, while maintaining its key role as a leader in world diplomacy.

Key to the United States being able to fulfill her role, sought or not, as the world's main protector of freedom and security, is a great emerging export economy based upon natural resources including metals, energy and agriculture.

As the world becomes more populated and resources become more scarce, the United States is in an increasingly strong position to project its moral authority globally by leveraging her resources. While many can argue that morality, the simple truth Americans know is that we too simply want to live peacefully with a comfortable standard of living. In order to keep peace and support our own standard of living, Americans are willing to spread our bounty.

Those who fret over the American domestic budget or European woes are missing the big picture. The world is not ending financially. It already did. What the world and United States in particular are going through now is the slow painful process of rebirth.

As the exports ramp, the United States will see its currency strengthen with an accompanying rise in interest rates to historically normal levels (which will finally hurt existing bonds as Bill Gross predicted a bit too early). This may seem counterintuitive to some who believe that exports need a weaker currency, but that is simply not the case if you are exporting high value goods, like metals, energy, food, transportation technology and chemicals.
