Feds: China and Iran Smuggling Ring Busted
For men allegedly arranged for the export of carbon fiber that can be used in uranium enrichment.
By JASON RYAN (@jasonryanabc) , PIERRE THOMAS (@pierretabc) and RICHARD ESPOSITO
Dec. 5, 2012
Four men, including two Iranians, were indicted Tuesday in federal court in New York for allegedly attempting to smuggle military helicopter parts and carbon fiber that can be used in nuclear centrifuges from the U.S. into China and Iran.
"The law prohibits the exportation of goods to Iran and certain goods to China," said FBI Assistant Director George Venizelos in written comments. "Whether motivated by greed or otherwise, these defendants allegedly violated the law, including by arranging for the export of carbon fiber that can be used in uranium enrichment. The FBI takes very seriously its responsibility to ensure that strategically important goods and technology do not end up in the wrong hands."
"The embargo and export laws that all four of these defendants are alleged to have violated are critical to protecting the national security of the United States and its citizens," said Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. "Carbon fiber in the wrong hands poses a serious threat to that security, and two of these defendants are charged with arranging its export to Iran, where it most assuredly had the potential to end up in the wrong hands. "
Three of the defendants in the alleged smuggling ring have been arrested, while a fourth remains at large. The men -- two Iranians, one Turk, and an Orange County, New York-based U.S citizen -- are all charged with conspiracy to export controlled items.
The carbon fiber material has a number of industrial uses, including aerospace engineering and the gas centrifuges used to enrich uranium. One defendant, Hamid Reza Hasemi, a dual U.S and Iranian citizen who lived in Iran, allegedly attempted to purchase the material for his Tehran-based company. Beginning in 2007, he was allegedly assisted in his efforts by Murat Taskiran, a Turkish citizen and the managing director of a company in Turkey.
Taskiran, who remains at large, allegedly solicited the material from an Orange County broker, Peter Gromacki, and together with Gromacki and Hasemi attempted to circumvent U.S. laws against the export of carbon fiber, a controlled item, according to the federal indictments unsealed today.
Gromacki, according to his indictment, made "materially false, fictitious , and fraudulent statements and representations."
The government charged that Gromacki lied on a shipper's export declaration for the People's Republic of China (PRC). He is charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). In their indictment, Hasemi and Taskiran also are charged with conspiracy to violate the IEEPA.
The fourth defendant, Amir Abbas Tamimi, an Iranian citizen, is charged with conspiracy to violate the IEEPA and supply Iran with military helicopter components.

I hear ya barb. It sucks that people move here under the veil of wanting a better life. Even worse when the can convince people that live here to help them in their BS cause. The flip side, the FEDs got a ton of info following these guys around for a while, and this is just how advanced US military equipment really is. They can't even buy this stuff on the black market, they have to these lenghts just to get something that could compete. The other thing is now they are really pouring on the whole Islamic backing of the Syrian rebels factions, while trainig forces in Jordan. Saudis, Qatar, Tukey, Jordan, and a few others give the rebles weapons; then turn around and label them as terrorist so once they succed they have a reason to go in full tilt?

The biggest reason for starting this thread...
Is being confirmed now basically by.... No easy exit for French fighting terror in Mali www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iQHSa9VCgDmvF0KNFvVKk1QMYqKg?docId=2eaba8e301094e1985a6f4950bd4ff98
The way this roots back into the title of this thread; as discussed before, China has big problems with Islamic extremism in certain parts of their country and they are making moves without the Vatican's consent. China moving towards adopting a Religion? The Islamics are putting all their efforts into this last big push that will make or break their Global Jihad. China is connected to the Middle East (literally) and Islamic extremism is a problem there. The is basically a Kingdom ruled by different factions that is going through the same transition that did 100-150 years ago. If you notice how things are playing out in Syria we can see that it could very well take 100-150 years for that area to transform into a more balanced society. Again why is important in all of this? Because North America is more or less energy independent and all of North America is set to become energy exporters. So if the Middle East wants to stand a chance of making it through this social change they have no choice but to be dependent on China. And China isn't about to adopt Islam or let Islam grow in their society, they are adopting Christianity (as stated above) and doing things like looking at Happiness not GDP over the next 10 years, as just recently demonstrated by the Commies backing down against reporters protesting about FREE speech. No wonder the Saudis let a ladyinto politics for the FIRST time in history.

If all that above wasn't interesting, the little trend that seemed to be emerging in the region, that was discussed earlier in the thread, was if the ground work was being laid for a wider Islam on Islam battle. Well..... Suicide blast at Shiite funeral in northern Iraq kills at least 14 people

Well they tried to move the elections in Egypt up but the Court suspends Egypt's parliament election. This is going to do nothing but push Egypt even closer to civil war most likely, which can been seen as Egypt's leader mulls army takeover of restive city. We have all seen how Iran has agreed to "talks", however, as Netanyahu says, Iran using nuclear talks to "buy time" for bomb. It would seem that this is the case since Iran says building 3,000 advanced centrifuges and the top commander in the Middle East is saying that U.S. efforts on Iran not working, Syria planning underway. It really is no wonder at this point why Biden has said that Obama not bluffing over Iran military threat as Khamenei seen tightening his grip in vote to replace Ahmadinejad. The Syrian Civil war has displaced over a million people now and as Passover approaches a PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS HITS MIDDLE EAST. Iran has said that Assad 'will take part' in 2014 vote and Assad Accuses U.S., UK Of Supporting Terrorism which means that the spill over effect is going to continue. Evidence of this can been seen all across the region and into central Asia as well.
In SA a Saudi Islamist preacher on trial in daughter's slaying. In Lebanon Lebanese women take on Muslim judges who call rape a 'marital right' and in Bangladesh, Islamist’s Death Sentence Sets Off Riots. Which has the the govt of Bangladesh amends war crimes law, mulls banning Islamists.
However, the biggest spillover effect is starting to show up in the media now, one that I was talking about last year in this thread;

SPEAKING OF EGYPT !!!!
THIS ... IMO ... IS ABSOLUTE BULL SHI$$$$$$$$!!!!!
Kerry prraises Egypt’s “Democracy” As Obama Slips Muslim Brotherhood Another $250 Million"
"The utter foolishness of the current administration continues to be seen as Secretary of State John “Swiftboat” Kerry gave praise to Muslim Brotherhood led Egypt for “their version of democracy” and released $250 million of American tax payer money into the Islamic regime’s hands."

Hey Dot! hope things are well, I know you have been busy. I understand where you're coming from. I think from a military standpoint Egypt is still view as a strategic. The Brotherood still has a chance to prove they can be moderate Muslim leaders, and we know that Egypt is in dire need of aid and very unstable. I don't know if you have had time to read much lately but Egypt hits problems over IMF loan and they have even bigger problems because they had to raise alert level in Sinai over jihadist fears. It's nuts when you think about it Dot these Islamist are going keeping fighting until they all kill each other I swear. I mean just think, the Arab League says members free to offer Syria rebels arms while Shia fighters rally to defend Damascus shrine from Sunni rebels. Also interesting to note Dot, looks like your 2013 predciton for a nwe SARS type of virus is coming true. In the Mid East of all places.. Death toll from new SARS-like virus climbs to 9. On a different note, it's looking more and more likely that the Arab League members are really trying to gear up for a big move. Not only are the AL members arming rebels in Syria, Jordan's parliament chooses PM for 1st time, and places like Qatar and the UAE are becoming new global travel crossroads. This is a different world within all of this turmoil entirely and you can bet that the Oil barons from these Arab countries have their eyes on the prize. It's going to be interesting to see what Obama's visit to the region will bring, some sources say No 'chest beating' on Iran, but Obama to issue challenge and he has said he has no Israel Palestine plan. It wouldn't work even if he did because in the last week Israeli police disperse Palestinians at key site the Temple Mound and Palestinian reported killed by Israeli troops in West Bank. France did very well off the start in Mail, now, Islamist inroads in Mali may undo French war on al Qaeda. Since we know China sees China-Africa cooperation fitting needs of the African continent, and we know that Chinese companies are investing in Africa because China firms eye Africa for growth, it's safe to assume that the biggest trend that had been discussed all through this thread is really starting to emerge right now. That is of course that not only the Middle East, but Africa is dependent on China, one has to wonder if China's military build up is for more than just d-fence. Stay .

On Tuesday Israelis celebrated 65 years of independence, on Wednesday Rockets Fired at Eilat in Southern Israel. A new resolution on Israel from the US "goes beyond affirming U.S. commitment in preventing a nuclear Iran, to ensure it will 'authorize the use of military force, diplomatic, military, and economic support to Israel in its defense of its territory, people, and existence.'" This was most likely a response to Iran marking 'National Nuclear Day' with a new uranium-processing site. Recently in Syria British scientists have 'found evidence of Syrian chemical attack' and since Al-Assad bars entry of chemical weapons team, it's safe to assume that he has been using some form of chemical weapon against his own people. Speaking of Al-Assad he has stated to Western nations: Syrian rebels will turn on you and there could be some truth to that as Iraqi al Qaeda wing merges with Syrian counterpart and Hezbollah-backed Lebanese Shiites fight in Syria. This is where it gets interesting however, and plays back into a trend that has been talked about throughout this thread; that is the Arab Leagues intentions. Just a quick recap on that point, it seemed in the later part of last year and earlier this year that the AL was setting it up so that after the dust settled in the Middle east they could assert their influence over the region, possibly with the use of force if they have to. The evidence has become much more clear that that is exactly their intent, the UAE says it has arrested plotters linked to al Qaeda and the Syria Civil War Causes Return Of Saudi Influence to Lebanon.
A quick note on the escalating situation in Africa, Nigeria’s MEND Issues Threat to Bomb Mosques, Kill Clerics, but hey it's not all bad, West's Mores, China Imports Challenge the Burqa and the Billionaire Saudi prince tweets support for women driving.

I'm sure that most have heard about the Red line on Syria's chemical weapons, what has not really been mentioned very much is how an Ex-Hezbollah leader said Iran told us to join Syrian war. What this means is that now thanks to Iran, Lebanon is dragged into this conflict, which obviously means that it's growing. Speaking of Iran, as their "elections" draw closer the Ayatollah is trying to do whatever he can to drum up support by saying that the Deepening Crises in Europe, US is an example of our failure and immoral behavior here in the west. Considering that a Minaret of landmark mosque in Syria was destroyed amid fighting in a war that Iran is helping to perpetuate, I would be careful if I was the Ayatollah, I mean it's not like all his neighbours just got a bunch of weapons while the US Navy Deploying Laser Weapon Prototype Near Iran or anything.... As mentioned before, Israel recently celebrated 65 years of independence and 70 years since Warsaw ghetto uprising. In a couple of years they want to open a museum to commemorate this fact and Britain has gave the OK to display Balfour Declaration in it. This of course angered the Arabs, I don't know it this was in response to the announcement or just another incident but on Friday the Israeli army broke up a Palestinian march on a Jewish settlement. The other thing that happened recently in Israel that really got under the skin of the Arabs was Baird’s east Jerusalem coffee date. If there is a confirmation that chemical weapons have been used in Syria and there is more involvement from outside sources, there is literally nothing standing in the way of this war spreading across the region very quickly. The business community around the world isn't backing off from its sanctions in Iran, as demonstrated by Samsung blocking access to its app store in Iran and one of China's biggest allies has come forward and admitted to a secret deal with U.S. on drone strikes. The sticky situation there is of course China has just taken over control of one of Pakistan's key shipping ports while India, China look to cooperate to counter terror in Afghan. Stay .
