Aside from the I.S. apparently seizing another Syrian gas field, the "warring" factions of the mujahideen in Syria united to take the last town held by western backed rebes. There was also an Al Qaeda leaflets talk of Bengal caliphat circulating.

Egypt is destroying homes along Gaza and Sinai boarder and claims to have found hundreds of new tunnels. Meanwhile as pointed out, things are getting sticky in Israel - again.

As Jerusalem Arab Violence Spirals, Jews March Towards Temple Mount

Recent attacks had finally led Israel’s government to close the site last weekend to everyone for the first time since 1967, enraging both Muslims and Jews alike.

The site was again closed to everyone on Wednesday after Muslims there attacked a Knesset member touring the area, having rioted and attacked visitors daily for weeks, usually from the moment the site opened in the morning hours. Also on Wednesday, a Hamas terrorist murdered a Border Patrol police captain and wounded 13 others in a horrific attack in two locations along the Light Rail line in a northern part of the city.

Despite the provocations and rising violence that prompted the closure however, the government of Jordan recalled its ambassador to Israel for “consultations” to protest Israel’s actions, rather than those of the Arab attackers.

Thus the pressure cooker has now begun to spill over to the Jewish side of the city’s population, with right wing activists matching verbal provocations against their Arab counterparts.

“The mosque will burn and the Temple will be rebuilt,” protesters chanted Thursday night as they marched from the Begin Center towards the holy Temple Mount in the Old City. The marchers said they would hold a mass prayer near the Temple Mount for Glick’s speedy recovery.

Oh and Israel okays Egypt request to deploy more military forces in Sinai.. I had to laugh at a couple stories today.. The main premises, because the I.S. didn't just run the mid East over they are "suffering setbacks"

The salt itself is very interesting as well. The study of salt tectonics in general is pretty young (not on a geologists scale, on a “normal” human scale). In the beginning of last century salt and its overburden were considered to be fluids (on geological time scales) and buoyancy drove salt to rise through the upper sediment. At some point people started realizing that buoyancy alone could never explain the behavior of salt in our Earth. Instead of considering salt to have some sort of intrinsic motivation to rise and start some salt diapirism, nowadays, evaporites are considered to stay where they are unless there is some driving force that will cause it be displaced. Don’t get me wrong, especially here in Northern Germany, we do have the rare case that salt diapirism is actually buoyancy driven, but that is one process out of five. This paradigm change is considered to be the change from the “fluid era” to the “brittle era”

However, salt is an excellent decoupling mechanism for tectonic stress regimes. Normally, when you look at stress fields you have a superposition of local, regional and global stress fields that act upon your area of interest

Thousands of hectares of wheat-farming land in Syria and Ira benefiting from a long term multimillion-dollar Australian aid program are under the control of the Islamic State and al-Qaeda offshoot Jabhat al-Nusra.

over the past year the Islamic State and other rebel groups have overrun these key wheat growing regions and have started seizing crops.

Harvests from the Iraqi farmers who were directly involved in the program have already been confiscated by Islamic State according to officials while in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra, has seized a 1000-hectare research farm run by an agency that receives some funding from Australia.

The Aleppo farm is now being used to grow vegetables and other crops for the extremists, according to an Australian official involved in the program.

Australians involved in the program have sought to play down suggestions that the aid funding is likely to provide significant benefit to IS.

But control of the wheat crop in Iraq has emerged as being of strategic importance to Islamic State which is using the grain to finance the war effort and starve out opponents, according to a recent report by international news agency Reuters.

The $15.9 million Australian aid program that ran in three phases and was terminated only in September led to 45,000 hectares being planted with wheat in Iraq and Syria using a zero tillage or no ploughing method, a strategy that boosted some crop yields by nearly 25 per cent while slashing costs.

So that's food, water, and oil... Yes I do think they will figure out how to grow more, all the research is in their hands as well...

Ancient Prophecies Motivate Islamic State Militants

Rebels of the moderate Free Syrian Army were mystified in August when rival Islamic State militants suddenly took aim at a seemingly unimportant string of villages in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo.

As the extremist group’s propaganda and fighters on the ground quickly made clear, what fueled their offensive was one village in particular. The village, Dabiq, appears in sayings attributed to the Prophet Muhammad as the location of an end-of-days drama in which a Muslim army is to defeat its enemies, including a foreign army.

The importance of this prophecy to Islamic State was also evident in the video released on Sunday announcing the beheading of American aid worker Peter Kassig.

“Here we are, burning the first American crusader in Dabiq, eagerly waiting for the remainder of your armies to arrive,” says a militant in the video. The militant denounces U.S. intervention in Iraq and vows to defeat what he calls “this final and last crusade.”


The capture of Dabiq set the stage for Islamic State’s wider battles spanning Syria and Iraq, which it portrays as preordained in Islamic texts. That an ancient prophecy prompted a strategic battlefield shift some 1,400 years after it was relayed shows how apocalyptic ideas have animated and fueled the rise of Islamic State.

Those ideas have helped attract recruits in the Middle East and beyond, said Syrian rebels who fight the group, analysts who study it, and a militant who recently joined.

“Dabiq is the most important village in all of Syria for them…especially the foreign fighters,” explained a rebel who fought the advance of Islamic State forces on the village. The radical group swiftly took over the village, moving fighters there and building sand berms around it, rebels in the area said

I have a great Dem Friend of mine who has added all the people he walked on: he may end up with a rank less then Nixon.  Well, If Russia sells China all the Liquid NG some one will need to build the the pipeline with steel that someone else will need to make. So much for the low price of iron ore.  Now for China middle class: they save 50% of what they earn.

I have no doubt Oman will end up at or near the bottom. It's a rare feat to upset both sides of the isle so well.

I think the entire story of low commodity prices is based on the coming war/depression - at least China will have somewhere for all that stored iron to go, eh? What about internal demand for oil and gas in the mid east?

It's true China's middle class has saved a lot. However, there is lots of "savings" tied up in insanly over priced RE. Also, over half a billion people live on less than $5 a day..

The good news - post war USA was nothing compared to post war globa, aka Pax Globa.

Since the following story confirms that the coalition against the I.S. is doing nothing but dropping bombs and turning people towards the I.S., I'm going to do my best to focus on how the war is spreading out.

Even ISIS Needs a Bank

Even as the American-led coalition continues to conduct airstrikes against the group, the Islamic State may be following the examples set by other terrorist organizations in attempting to mimic the operations of a real government. In an interview with London's al-Araby al-Jadeed (grain of salt here), a tribal leader based in Mosul⎯a major Iraqi city that ISIS took control of last summer⎯said that the group has set up a bank there. The report added that ISIS has also delivered a $2-billion budget that includes basic services like education, construction, and welfare for the poor and disabled.

While any news out of Mosul is difficult to confirm, if the group has actually managed to form a bank, it would mirror a paradigm set by the Taliban, which established itself as a brutal ruling regime in Afghanistan, despite the fact that its leadership wasn't universally embraced. Imran Khan notes the comparison for Al Jazeera:

Both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had recognized that [Taliban] government and set up consulates ‎for the group in both countries. Pakistan and the Saudis had provided assistance to the Taliban government which helped the group gain legitimacy, albeit limited, internationally.

Ah yes, the Saudis.. A boarder attack there yesterday.. The I.S. in Libya attacking the army.. A major attack in Yemen's capital.. Suicide bombers in Turkey... All part of the spreading war.

However, most importantly; Islamic State to systematically target Europe in 2015: French expert. Evidence of which can be found in the attack on the French magazine today - and for those keeping score, that's one attack in the west per month since September.

The reason this is such a huge issue; Right wing in Europe could bring 'turmoil'. Yes, the rise of the far right in Europe that was discussed last year has become an even bigger issue now - evidence of which can be found in Greece's elections. Yes, this is the same far right coalition that supports Putin against the EU, and is ready to act on immigration... Did I mention economics is only part of the much larger issue that is coming to a head in Europe?
