Hello folks. I'm a lurker/ occasional poster on the YM boards. Same name.
Hadn't been on in a while and was shocked to see they are closing down. Thanks to whoever set up these new boards.

I am mostly a lurker. On the old boards Jo D; but this board wouldn't let me use that.

I am mostly a lurker. On the old boards Jo D; but this board wouldn't let me use that. If you go to your profile, you can set your display name to something other than your user name, so it'll display like you had on MSN.

I was CPS3102 on MSN boards mostly hung out in EE & YM... posted and lurked more a year ago... new job, wedding plans, etc kept me from getting on here much. Hopefully the new year will give me more time to come back and read/learn/laugh more =) Oh the CPT3102 is because my last name is different! =) Hope every one is well!
I am glad I decided today woudl be the day I'd lurk around and ask questions... because um I'd have been sad if everything went away and I had no clue what happened.

Just joined. I'm also usually a lurker. Apparently, my last post on YM was back in May...I was freaking out over buying a co-op LOL. Glad I checked on the Boards and saw that they were shutting down. I might not post much but I really enjoy reading everyone elses posts and occasionally throwing my two cents in

It would have been funnier if everyone had changed their handles, posted for a week or two, then had everyone try to guess who they are just by posting style.
I'd have totally been able to figure out Old Tex, Crone and Phil.

@the J After weeks of delays, I finally closed at the end of May. I moved in the next week and immediately went crazy buying furniture and a ton of stuff that I never even realized I'd need. To this date I'm finding stuff I need to get. Case in point, the huge blizzard that hit the east coast. I'm in NY and park on the street (on the waiting list for a spot in my co-op's lot). Surprise, surprise I need to buy a freaking shovel. I lived with my father before and always used his shovel to dig out. I'm hard headed and refused to buy a shovel on the spot (knowing the stores probably marked up the prices). Thankfully, after 2 hours of digging with a broom, my mittened hands, and my windshield scraper some good samaritans shoveled out the last impossible bit of snow around my car. That's just one small example of my not thinking ahead to all the stuff I'd need to buy once out on my own. hence my 2011 goal is to pay down some newly accrued debt. Otherwise everything has been amazing. I received a raise in October and will be getting another one in January so my mortgage and maintenance are more than covered. I did get a 2.5% increase in my maint. But it only comes to about $15 more a month. With my raises I can pay off all that new debt and start rebuilding my savings (since most of it went towards my DP). It was scary to make that move and to get into so much debt. But this debt is a billion times more worth it than my previous stupid college CC debt. I feel like I'm moving forward and that is the most amazing feeling ever.

I'm the same as I was on MSN - A tiny speck... Today I realized how truly horrible it would be with out all the advice and fun that the old boards provided.
I lurked on a lot of boards posted on some. I'm glad to be here and see so many familiar boards and people!

I just skulked around a bit and did the occasional post. My Mother - Bless Her Heart - taught me about being thrifty and I now have a paid for residence, one paid for rental and one recently acquired rental that cash flows a bit. I was a certified credit counselor with a local Consumer Credit Counseling Service for 3 years (the limit for volunteering according to nat'l guidelines!).
I have greatly enjoyed the board over the past 5-6 years. I think I may post more in the future, but there seem to be many regulars who post more frequently than I visit and who have great advice and insight

I've been a poster on YM for a while under LuckyStarFish...Was able to shorten it here. Nice to see familiar "faces". DH and I have three kids at home, one is in college. We are at one income right now. I've been unemployed since March but I have worked temp jobs. I'm in a bedroom community about 40 miles from a large metroplex. DH has a great job but I have limited myself to the immediate area, where jobs are more scarce. I have been hesitant to travel far for a job so my kids are not alone so long after school. We are in good financial shape so it hasn't been a problem but in our late 40s, retirement is a big concern so my being employed would help alleviate that stress. I will be thinking seriously about hitting that big metroplex for a job since hubby is willing and able to work at home a few days a week. He is a Computer Programmer while my experience is in Accounting.

I lurked in the corner most of the time....I felt stupid asking questions or posting....until I came across cm's posts....she makes me look like a financial genius! This exactly. Long time lurker, posted a couple of times over the years. I didn't think I would make the migration, but decided to check it out and have decided it might be time to jump in once in a while.

I'm a previous occasional poster 'guiltyme' posted about 3-4 times, mostly lurked. I am trying to be more a contributor. I am very glad to see so many names from the other board here, tho I didn't know everyone, a lot of names I remembered came over.

Reading luckystar and athena53 (whom I seem to remember from previous boards) I'll give a bit of bio. I'm a graphics designer working for a munipality in So Cal. I'm 52, and hoping to retire soon, hopefully before they give me the boot. It's a scary world out there as a government worker, and no sympathy for the devil, I know, save your flaming please. My hubby has been a stay at home dad since our daughters were babies, they're 19 and 16 now. He used to have seizures, which is why he didn't work regularly, after major brain surgery 7 years ago, has been practically seizure free. Much better quality of life, but still not much advantage for job hunting. Which is why I've been the primary breadwinner for the past 15-20 years.
Our financial plan is typical seat-of-our-pants. I could blame our general low income on it, but won't because so many people do better with less. We do own a small 2-bedroom condo we originally intended to buy up from, 22 years later we're grateful to have the most of the mortgage (30 year) paid off. Tried to do the save 10% in 457 deferred comp, tried to build emergency savings, seemed everytime we got something started, those ends moved. Got a bit in the deferred comp, which will probably go to buying back service time for retirement.
When I retire/receive my pink slip in the next year or two, we plan to relocate to Tennessee. We enjoy the area, and the lower cost of living will help us financially. I am looking forward to a greener local, friendlier environment. I plan to work for a few years to finish out my social security requirement. I'm 9-1/2 years into the 10 year minimum work credit for ss, and even tho I know the windfall provision will eat up much of it, 10 years of my life is too long to not receive retirement funds for.
This short bio turned out too long. I will learn eventually to limit my posts to sentences, instead of essays.

I was a bit of a lurker at YM my screen name was Lulu @ the beach, I live in central florida by the east coast. I have a DD5 & a DS3 plus 2 fur babies. Things are iffy with DH but been trying to work things out for a year or so. I was born & raised in Chile, dad was a banker and taught me a lot about finances. I'm an acct & fin supervisor for a construction company. I work for a very flexible company so I'm able to work part time and be a mom. I love it here.

Previous name was another dandy. I had been on the old board for years. Sometimes I am posting up a storm and other days just lurking while on the time clock. YM is one of my top ten favorite boards.

I've been around since 2005, though I tend to hang out in the Smart Spending area because I don't really have deep-seated opinions on tipping! (grin) ...this is one of the funnier posts I've read today...
