Just to put this out there. Opossums are marsupials also and they are all over the western hemisphere. Just saying. Yes, opossums are the only marsupial in the United States, though many other places in the Western hemisphere, especially in South America, have many different marsupials. The lack of marsupials in Europe, their limited appearance in North America, and their greater numbers in South American and Australia provide "clues" to the migration of marsupials over time.

MM:I would like to learn how to get my iTunes library off of one computer and onto another. Can you load the entire library onto Itunes then connect your second IPod and load them? Here we go again I'm going to do a google on the question. I've done nothing lately but research the ITouch, Kindle and IPad.

And for those things that are vitally important to our lives--our cars transport ourselves and our kids, and can be DEADLY if used/maintained improperly--isn't it pragmatic and responsible to have even a cursory understanding of how they operate and what needs to be done to maintain their proper operation? Eh, whatever. That's why I pay a mechanic to tell me what to do when on my car. I have a very basic understanding of how it works, but the only important thing to me is that it does work and I know how to operate it. Somebody else can do the maintenance. Think about it this way, your car is damn near worthless without decent roads right? I mean, you'd get farther faster using your bare feet than you would in a car through actual wilderness. Doesn't mean you give a damn how roads are made.

Honestly, I spend so much time reading trade books for my profession and staying up to date on theories and different types of pedagogy, that I don't have the time or desire left to learn how my engine works. Right now I am a single mother to 3 children full time and also another child part time. When I get home from work I make dinner and then clean up. I also then help my 3 children with their homework. I joke around about "that is what I have my husband for", but do you know that I haven't actually lived with my husband since February of 2010? I do everything on my own or I pay someone to do it for me if I don't know how to do it. I don't have the time or desire to learn to do everything on my own. I am one person and I have to pick and choose what is important for me to learn about and do on my own. The rest gets hired out.
The inner workings of my car is just not something I care to learn about. I honestly do not care if there are gerbils in there running on a wheel to make it go. All I care about is that it gets from Point A to Point B.

I don't do all the maintenance on my car myself, but I feel like I have enough knowledge to make an informed decision regarding who should repair/replace an item (e.g. myself, our neighborhood mechanic, or the dealership service department). Many times, I take care of it myself; other times, I prefer to pay someone else to do it. Regardless, the point of my statements was to encourage people to know something about their cars besides how to make them stop and go on demand.

When I checked before I was not able to access my iTunes library through the internet which seems really ridiculous. I tried to sync my iPhone with a second computer on iTunes but it would not transfer from the phone to the computer. How do you define "dead?" Is the hard drive intact?

Why though? So you can save a little money on repairs which happen infrequently to begin with? I can think of plenty of things that would seem a lot more practical to know.
Besides, you can do most simple maintenance without knowing a damn thing about the actual inner workings of the engine. All you need to know to change oil is where the drain plug is, where the filter is, where the cap is, and that you turn left to loosen and right to tighten. You don't even have to know what the oil actually does, much less anything about any of the engine components. Brake pads, other fluids, wiper blades, spark plugs, and fuses are all the same way. No real car knowledge necessary to do yourself. Anything beyond that you take to the mechanic.

1. If you have 4 kids, you're probably not going to be cool no matter what vehicle you drive. It could be the baby food stains, it could be the business casual clothes, could be the short hair and large handbag, could be the 4 baby body... either way, you're not fooling anyone.
2. I'm not sure how I feel about timing belt changes. I'm not saying it doesn't technically need to be done, its just that every time I've done one the car has left my possession soon after. Once to a trade, once to a colision. I also think the company recommends it to CYA and the dealer scares you into spending money. Probably on an expected present value basis, you'd skip this procedure.

Are YOU kidding me? 1) my kids are older so I do not have baby food stains. 2) I wear very nice professional clothes to work with nice shoes. 3) I do not have short hair. My hair falls just below my shoulders. 4) I have 4 kids but I never said I gave birth to 4 kids. I gave birth to 2 kids. 1 child is my stepdaughter and the other child we adopted. I am NOT FAT, nor do I have a "4 baby body" (whatever the hell that means). I am a very tiny person.

Whoa there. Let's just back up. I, for one, have seen Angel's body. (in pics and sadly not naked pics....but I digress) and it's little and cute. Except for her boobies which I would classify as far more sexy than cute, but once again I digress. And her ass I would call more delightful than cute but once again....hey, what was I talking about??? Oh right. Angels scrumpdillyiscious bod. There's nothing 4-baby about it, unless you count the number of times she gets called "hey, baby" when she's walking from the grocery store to her minivan.

Bee, are you the dude that got the dog even though you knew your wife would freak out? Cause that would definetly explain your d-bag comment.

We prefer to be oblivious to such things and have the man of the house do it. ;D

I guess I'll jump into the fray here. KK, everyone is wired differently, that is what makes us all unique. Otherwise then every person in the whole world would run around being doctors/mechanics/law enforcement/accountants/contractors..etc...etc We all have unique knowledge, and everyone learns different things differently. One person's brain can grasp complex mathematical problems, and another person's brain is wired to solve different problems. It is wonderful that you absorb stuff that you read, it makes you unique, but there really is a lot more to what life is all about than stuff in a book. It gets lonely at the top of the mountain when looking down on others in condescension, instead of mingling and embracing people for their unique differences. ETA: A big to everything Bis said in this thread!

LOL, I'd rather be dumb and fun than...well, than a person that thinks looking up words is a hoot I'd rather be smart, in all honesty. Yeah, I look up words. I mean, we're bombarded with words. We use them all the time, verbally and through writing. It's absolutely amazing that I can have a thought--an ethereal, incorporeal experience-- in my head and be able to convey that thought across the physical void between you and me and you can experience it the same as I do (more or less)! Words aren't spark plugs; they're there in front of us all the time. How can one not wonder about them? I do wonder about them, as I do have an inner geek that needs to be fed. I also am really interested in cultural geography and when I go someplace new, I want to check out the architectural styles of the area, which are often clues to the reasons for settlement, I want to know why that settlement is there and what is the economic basis of the area, and I want to know why the place is still there. But I also realize it will probably cause some serious eye glazing if I discuss it at a party, so I can also talk sports, politics, religion, weather, gossip, or whatever else you wanna talk about. If that makes me dumb, well, I'm dumb. Thanks for playing. ETA: But it's OK that I'm dumb because I'm cute too.
