Mary: Facebook's fine. Although forthright and admirably descriptive, is the 10-word, 16-syllable "Home to the MSN Money, Health, and Lifestyle Board refugees." truly our "name"? The URL subdomain is notmsnmoney, which is what I used as a header for the V- skins. Also, I generally refer to "the board" as NMSNM when there's a possibility of confusion. I know that references to specific forums are nice and brief: EE, MT, P&M, YM. And I have seen "moon's board", "the money board", "the refugee board", "Proboards" all used to refer to the entire board. But what are we called? More specifically: if you want to invite somebody over to this website, what do you call it? If you were setting up a little banner ad for a signature block to promote this board, what would you call it? Inquiring minds want to know.

In conversation my wife and I call this place "the money board". I have no idea what you'd call it for advertising purposes as I would never invite anyone I know here. More than likely I've talked smack about them behind their back at some point, so outside of Loop nobody I know in real/virtual life knows about this place.

The banner under the Everythinng Else, pretty much sums up the whole board - It just needed to be more generalized so it wasn't specific to EE:

"Bedlam" is almost tempting. Snappy. Intriguing. Two syllables. It's just a bit too self-deprecating. How about "The MMB": could stand for "Moonbeam Message Board", "MSN Money Board", "Money Message Board", "Money with MoonBeam", "Money and Mischief Board", "Money Made Better", "Multiple MSN Boards", "Moved MSN Boards" or anything else your imagination wants it to be. "Hey, Virgil, what's going on with MMB?" "Lassie. Check your PMs over on MMB." "POM, we loved your MMB 'How To' paper on massacring snow leopards." Clean, concise, and only three characters long.  |

Depending on who you are talking to it is just plain "the boards". The name I give we who enjoy the boards and spend a good deal of time "boardians". Those on FB are "bookers". And those who bounce back and forth between FB and more than one board are "bouncers".

Why don't you call it "Formally The Rat Pack Place". Now that they're all out of here. Why would we name it anything relating to a very small group of people within the larger whole?! the name is long now yes.. didn't (and don't) intend it to be final. i did, however, want our newer members to feel included. whatever you decide on though, leave my name out of it. |

I always think of it as the Refugees cause the posters come from all over and it has that feeling of community coming together.

We could all in fact be constructs of your imagination, Bridget. What I'm getting out of this is that people have learned to call the board all kinds of things.  I do like the simplicity of "Not Money", and later is right, "Refugees" is part of our culture. "MSN Refugees" is nice and terse. I'd almost be tempted to suggest "MSNfugees" if it didn't read as "MSN Fuggies" at a first glance. The important thing is that I can tell Ms. Virgil that this place doesn't really have a name (in the traditional sense). |
