Sharon, did they manage to completely put out the fire near you, or is it still burning? I hope all is well.

Spent a few hours with my 90 year old cousin. She is my oldest living cousin.
Her house is so full of knick knacks that I could hardly walk through it. She showed me the entire main level and every room was like that.
She had already told me some things she wanted to give me but she asked me if I wanted our grandparents' footstool and I said yes since she said I could get it to the car alone. Turns out my grandpa built it. It's very simply made and grandma covered it. I know my cats will think it's a new scratching post so it will have to go in a room where I keep the doors closed.

I've had many people ask if they can have it. Some have asked multiple times. It's the one thing I own, that I treasure. I think it's as old as I am. Maybe older. Oh, I also have my mother's cedar chest. It's older than I am and I love it, as well. I remember both pieces, being at my parents, since I was born.

Sharon , did they manage to completely put out the fire near you, or is it still burning? The fire is considered contained and all evacuation levels have been dropped. They said there are some deep ash pits away from the roads and that they may smoke from time to time, but they would be dealt with as necessary. I don't think they consider the fires to be completely out until we either have enough rain or the snow flies. We had a good thunderstorm tonight, so hopefully it doesn't start any fires. At least it did rain tonight.

Hey Everyone,
The weather has turned a bit chilly so I made myself a big mug of cocoa. It was delicious.
Plans for this weekend are to help one of my BFF's move tomorrow and Saturday. Than I will chill at the condo for a few days and head to the shore house with things from storage so that can be emptied and the bill cancelled for October.
I really need to start working on the condo more. Boxing and everything just have not been in the mental bandwidth to deal. Take care.

I am here at the condo drinking coffee! There is construction going on behind me which I have no clue when it's going to stop.
I need to get dressed and start picking up things for me to pack away.
But first to the library than the vacuum store for my serviced vacuum.

Happy Friday Muffins!!!
It has been a long short week and I am glad it is over! Summer is dragging it's heels out the door after showing up late. Around 90 today and tomorrow and then cooling into the 70s with rain for the next week at least! WooHoo! Finally!
Have a Fantastic Weekend!!!

She is single, like me, and said her nieces and great nieces and nephews have no interest. She is having a hard time giving away quilt made by her mother or our grandma. I told her to keep me in mind if no one wants it. She did point out the ceramic Christmas tree that my sister made and gave and told me to tell her to remind her nieces when the time comes. Now to figure out where to get some plastic. I want grandma's cover on it.

Well, I don't think we're going to make an offer on the house. The location is great, it's got almost everything I've ever wanted in a house (except a screen porch), plus some extras, so I know I'll be sorry when someone else gets it, but we just can't justify what the monthly payment would be. I even checked with a local credit union that I've done business with, and while they could do better, it just isn't good enough. I've kept busy today. DH & I worked on cleaning the garage (it needed to be done anyway, whether we're selling the house or not). DS & I took a load to the recycling place. DH is off from work tomorrow, so we'll put in more time then, as he had to leave for work & there are some things in that garage that take 2 people to move, or one strong man. The weather here today is nearly perfect. Sunny & in the low 70's, which is what made it a great day to work on the garage. This has been a week. Except for working on the garage some more tomorrow, I think Sunday after church I'm gonna do a whole lot of nothing.

Peeps! So glad to see all of you this Friday evening. I have a race Sunday, and plans to get a new hydration belt and trail shoes after that. So everything is pretty much done here. I will run some laundry tomorrow, just to get it done. Not sure about dinner for tomorrow. For me, it's always a salad and protein pre-race. I have some chicken already baked, so I will use that. DH has shrimp in the the freeze,r so he may get that and a baked potato.

What are they saying about Hurricane Lee in your area, NancysSummerSip? Any concerns about flooding? (Wouldn't miss Mar-a-Lago, but I wouldn't want your place getting washed out to sea...) Some news channel was saying Lee whipped up in strength so quickly that they're seeing 40 ft. waves on the ocean.

I'm so glad to see the weekend, even if there will be a lot of driving tomorrow. I've been on call this week and last night I got a call, that resulted in a couple hours of work, and two phone calls to my boss. He told me to wait until this morning and we would fix it. Well that decision cost me another phone call at 4:30am. I spent most of the day putting humpty dumpty back together again and am just mentally drained. Tomorrow DD and I are going to take the kids and go back to the city where I moved from. I can make the drive in a little over 3 hours but with the kids the potty breaks will be more frequent and take longer. We are going to a 7 year olds birthday party. It is for my nephews son. Both of us feel it is important that the next generation of kids know each other. The birthday party is late morning. After that we talked about taking the kids swimming at great grandma's pool. She has a membership in a neighborhood pool, so it will be heated. After that we were thinking pizza and then put the kids in their jammies and head home. Hopefully after a full day of playing and a belly full of pizza that they will crash out and sleep most of the way home.

Let's hope all those weather wonks with their fancy radar gear are right on this! My house can handle a Cat 3, possibly a non-sustained 4. Not a 5. No way. It was built pre-Andrew.

No one here is panicking; but I hope the newbies who have moved here understand how serious the watches/warnings are. And that we have a season for a reason. You need to be ready before June 1 now, because these storms have a way of showing up earlier than that. Have the basics, at least, and the means to protect your overpriced investment (the house you bought here for way too much money).
We have paper goods, water, pet supplies, cleaning supplies, canned and packaged goods, propane, batteries, flashlights, lanterns, working shutters and our meds. That's basic for us. Other folks would have baby needs, maybe kid-type snacks, toys and games.
I decided to try something I saw on TV last week: soup in a jar. I bought ramen noodles, low-sodium chicken broth, and bok choy. I already had small frozen chicken meatballs and mixed vegetables from Costco. Tossed it all in a pot with some extra broken noodles, a small amount of water and cracked black pepper, and simmered for awhile. I will add any leftover broccoli from dinner tonight. When cooled, put in jars (I bought six half-gallon Ball jars this morning) and stash in the fridge for a quick meal.

The kids don't understand it now, but it is very important.

Wow! There's nothing like cleaning out the garage to let you know you're alive. My back isn't going to be speaking nicely to me at all when this day is over. Taking a break...

I am bone dead tired this morning. It was a good trip overall. Mom is getting worse but refuses to even consider moving. Fortunately the drive home was pretty quiet, most of the kids slept most of the way.

I'm sorry to say Sharon, that she may reach a point where a social worker may need to get involved, and she'll either end up in assisted-living, like my Mom did, or somewhere with a bit of supervision. It definitely feels like Fall here today. I did make it to church this morning, but with my stiff back I won't be doing anything big today. I'm starting up some laundry, but the rest of the world will have to wait.

I am home, peeps. Actually, I was home from the race by 10. I cleaned up and went out, treated myself to new trail runners and a real hydration belt with its own bottle. Came home and tried my soup in a jar. It's good! Having a hydration beverage now.

Sadly it can be next to impossible to get them moved without a court order or an actual health emergency where a hospital will not release them to their home.

She fell, and the hospital wouldn't release her back to her house, which was actually the safest decision to make, but she never got to see her home again. And yes, I felt badly about that, but she had reached the point where it really wasn't safe for her to be living by herself.

After Mom was hospitalized last February my brother arranged for home health to come in and do a home evaluation, in addition to the therapist that were working with her on her breathing and swallowing. My brother told them that the family really feels she needs to move and that it wouldn't be a bad thing if she failed the test. Nope they said she was doing just fine. Yesterday we found about a half a pot of coffee with mold growing very thickly on the top. All of us at various times have found such gems as black carrots, rotting potatoes, etc. Today I ended up spending all afternoon over at DD's helping her snap 40lbs of green beans to can. By tonight everything will be in jars and ready to process tomorrow. As payment I did get some really good homemade beef stew for dinner with homemade dinner rolls.

If you haven't already done so, Sharon, place a call to her family physician about the coffee pot, and the other strange things you've been finding around her house, and ask if she can get an evaluation. We've had another family member who went through this testing recently. It would at least give you an idea of where she's at. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Good Afternoon Kids! DS had an appointment this morning, and I'm now trying to figure out what I can accomplish around the house today. It's Monday, and I need more caffeine. Tonight DH, DS & I will be doing something we do every year on this day. We own a copy of the 9/11 movie, which is all film footage of what happened on that awful day. So we'll be watching & remembering.

I had a mug of tea and plan on another. I intend to go down to the shore house this weekend and not worry about commuter traffic this week. I bought myself a Taylor Swift Concert Movie ticket and was able to pick my seat to enjoy it on the 13th of October! Luckily, the theater is less than 5 miles from the condo! I will be able to live it up but not be crushed by crowds or pay for parking.
