No, but I love Christmas, and our families aren't too bad.

meghn, Crabby and I are seriously considering going for Chinese on Christmas - just the two of us! I feel your pain. Call the florist and get her a nice centerpiece for the table.

I've wanted to do that Meg, especially since my in-laws make Christmas Eve a marathon that runs into Christmas Day... and then want everyone to gather AGAIN for Christmas dinner. I don't play that BS, and DH knows it. Plus, we travel to see my family on Christmas Day.

I've never had to ditch family Christmas because we all get along so well - but if it was different, I'd probably choose that time to take my vacation or just not attend to avoid the drama.

We both come from divorced families, so Christmas has been always been a production, but it wasn't too bad because we were okay with spreading it over three days. This year, it was supposed to be CE: lunch at his mom's and dinner at my Dad's. CD: breakfast with his Dad and dinner with my mom. Day after we were going to pop by my grandmom's and it's our annual day after with my best friend and his parents (been doing this for five years). We has these plans for three weeks!!!!! Last night his mom needs us to come over on Christmas Day because the youngest isn't coming up from Virginia until then. We rearranged with his Dad for New Year's Day because he's taking BF's sisters to Longwood Gardens on the 26th and we're unavailable. That was fine. now, the other sister doesn't know when she'll be there on Christmas, so his mom wants to have dinner on the 26th. What about everything else?!!?!!?!?!!? We want out. BF wants to go away next year, and as much as I'll miss my family (because we can adhere to a schedule), I want out!
I needed that vent!

We get along with our families, his Mom just sucks at planning and she tries to monopolize time. So does his sister.

If I had to deal with that kind of crap, I'd want to bail too.

Yes, I did it years ago. We're doing it again this year. The past few years we've been going to DH's sister's who lives in our city. She has 4 daughters with their SO/DH and kids, other extended family including our 8 (me, DH, SD and her 2 kids, SS and his wife and son), plus some friends who always go there. Kids crying, TV on too loud, eating in shifts, etc.
It's such a mob scene that end up sitting in a corner somewhere to get away from the pandemonium (I know, hard to believe, huh?) since I hate crowds.
This year we're going over to the kids house to watch the grandkids open their presents then we're going home - peace and quiet!

Both the grandson's are sick and we expect 25 here for Christmas Eve. My wife plans to warn everyone if they want to stay away. We will have the gs's here even if they are still contagious.

Meghan, come to NEPA and go for Chinese with us!!!
Actually what finally worked for us was to have our own, and invite both sides of the family on Xmas day.

I am glad I was able to successfully ditch the annual party. In true slacker fashion I forgot to update EE. I just said we had other plans that day and it worked.
Good luck with the logistics!

I can SO see DH's family doing that, but my family is much more reasonable. They understand that you can't just rearrange everything because one person can't come.

Ken, we started to hate the holiday travel thing so we started hosting. Are you staying in the area for a while? I am gonna try to hook up with a friend who will be going to Moscow!!!
The weather forecast got changed from snow to flurries. Maybe snow Christmas night.

Blue we usually only stay overnight and 1 day. Of course being retired now we can stay longer, but her mother even gets on her nerves after awhile. LOL. And she was just up there. We host my family here for a traditional Russian Christmas Eve.

We has these plans for three weeks!!!!! I can has cheezburger? If we didn't live in a one-bedroom apartment telling everyone to come over if they want to see us would be so great. I'm so glad my family is chill and they drink.

I didn't even decorate this year. Save a tree. I don't decorate, save for hanging the cards we get from people. Oh, and I took a couple of Santa crazy straws from our favorite bar's customer appreciation night.

My family is several states away so I don't worry about Christmas. I only worry about how my sister judges me when my Christmas cards are late. I finally mailed them today.

I would love to not spend christmas with my mom, but I enjoy spending it with my dad. Since they only live 40 minutes apart, I can't really use the "not in town" excuse to not see her.

If it makes you feel any better, we still (jokingly) ask my sister when her thank you cards for her graduation gifts are getting mailed. She graduated high school in 1996.
