Is that an accurate assessment, though, punkles? :-\ Of all the people you've known and all the pets you've owned, not one has been a better friend to you than a stuffed bear? Think of it this way: suppose a nuclear bomb goes off in your current city of residence and you happen to be in a subway tunnel when the denotation occurs. You're trapped in the tunnel, but it turns out that the basement to "Discount Groceries and Hardware" caved in nearby and so you have a plentiful supply of food, water, toiletries, supplies, games, etc. You also have a half-mile of open subway track in which to "spread out". Suppose you could have just one person/animal/thing (such as your teddy) with you, to wait with you for one year until rescuers finally managed to reach you through the rubble. Would that one person/animal/thing still be your teddy, or would you choose something/someone else? Well, I do love to read and a copy of "To Kill A Mockingbird" would be a delight to have with me if that were to ever happen. My parents are both gone, I don't like my sister and my husband hates Boston so he wouldn't be in the subway with me in the first place so yeah, I'll take my teddy bear. At least he listens and doesn't talk back. Always enjoyable. ;D

Mine is a result of congenital rubella. I do wear the left. I didn't for a long time. I do hate my digitals. I have worn analog my whole life and finally when I needed new ones last summer, analog is no longer an option. I cannot understand speech as well with the digitals compared to analog, and it really pisses me off. Same here!!! I don't like having a volume button that I can't control. It comes preset and I hate it! It never feels like it's loud enough.

Mine were programmed to cut out the feedback which was a blessing, but the result of that is sacrificing decibels, so I had my audiologist put everything to maximum db, and now I have to deal with constant feedback in order to hear speech better. New improved technology my ass! Even with that change, I still struggle with speech. In class, I have an assistive listening device, where professor wears a microphone & transmitter, and I wear a neckloop and receiver. Even with that, it is a struggle, and I can only hear the person with the microphone, which excludes me from meaningful class discussion. ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) ETA: I have never heard of an aid that has no volume control!

I hear ya! Well, obviously not literally, but you know what I mean And I have an aid with no volume control. I have three volume settings programmed in and I can go get it adjusted if need be. It's a pain getting up there though so I don't bother. I wear headphones at work all day and am pretty much a hermit after work, albeit as hermitty as one can get with a husband, 4 cats and the world's most awesome teddy bear. ;D I'll have you know I did a speech on him in college many moons ago and got an A. He was the most important "person" in my life, I think was the topic. Just not much of a people person. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Obviously. Won't the school let you get a note-taker? Someone the Department for Students with Disabilities will pay to take notes and give them to you? I remember I had the option for one way back when. I usually just borrowed someone else's notes if I needed to. Not a fan of the assisitive listening device.

I can get a note taker if I feel I need it. It is the school that provides the device, and I manage in class by reading class material prior to class so I have a good idea of topic. It has been working out well for me. I take classes online when the ones I need are offered, which has been a BIG help. I do see one class in my future that is a discussion type class in the humanities category, none of which are online. That will probably be a tough class for me. I do interview professors before I determine whose class I am going to take in a given subject group, which is also a big help!
The assistive listening device has been awesome for me with the exception that I can't follow discussion. Everyone I have encountered from fellow students to professors have been awesome about working with me.
The no volume thing would have been a deal breaker for me, I would have been back to the audio to fit me with different aids.

I would have chosen animal, but my goldfish died. (I threw him into the toilet) I hope you said a little prayer for the fish. It spent it's life watching you. My GS's goldfish were p.o.'d at being in a tank. I got the fish just until they got moved and settled. The fish never left. They weren't supposed to get that big. I had to clean their tank weekly. 20 gallons for 3 fish. DH dumped a bucket of minnows in there to keep them alive until the next weekend and gave the whole bunch parasites. They hated the treatment and would bump up against the glass when unhappy. They lived several years, and I don't know why they died.
