Hi All!
Midwest: Congrats to hubby. Good luck to you. My DSIS just quit cold turkey and it was very hard for her but the crutch of all the nicotein replacement products wasn't doing her anygood.
reenee: Good luck Friday.
sapphire: SO cool about your bed.
DS#2 is doing well. Maybe with his teeth fixed he will be more likely to talk. We will see.
On a good note I lost 1 lb over the last 2 weeks. Much better then gaining. I also went to my 8 YO son's conferences at school and he is doing awesome. He may be the top in his class. His math and reading scores both put him at a 6th grade level. Plus he reads 154 words per minute. Did I mention he is in 3rd grade!
Oh and we will be having the floors replaced in many rooms of the house but it can't be started until Dec 12. That will put my putting decorations off but it will be worth it to have them done.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

I'm so dumb . I totally forgot to budget for my SL so I just overdrew the checking account. I have the money in another account, I just didn't balance the checking account out right on Friday's payday. The charges are still showing as pending right now so it's possible that the transfer I just did will prevent an o/d fee but I doubt it. Hopefully this is not an indicator of what the rest of the day will be like.

great news! My interview at mixergy.com just went live and after 20 minutes of squealing, jumping up and down and grinning from ear to ear I'm finally calming down. so nervous to see what people think and to share my work with more people. Check it out if you want to see me in 'action' - it's video and I filmed in my home office.
there's also a transcript if you're stuck at work or somewhere you can't see the video.

sbcali: If you don't overdraw it often call the bank and see if they will reverse the fees this one time. I have done this a couple of times and they have given me my money back. Doesn't hurt to try.

HUGS! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am prepping for Thanksgiving here. Really nervous. The last time I cooked T-Day dinner for a man- was my grandfather when he was still living. ZBear dropped the frozen turkey in the backyard as we walked out of the garage from getting it from the chest freezer and it slid all the way up to the back door where he was waiting for us on the ice. As hard as he was laughing, it was probably a good thing he was oxygen. Poor ZBear was standing there with this broken plastic bag staring at this turkey and the path it had cut through the ice! And a couple years before that he and I went to fix dinner because my DGM had just had shoulder surgery and the turkey lifters broke and the blasted turkey landed in th efloor! (We washed it off and ate it but I was scrubbing the floor for a week) I got covered in hot turkey stuff. I am glad we didn't have company because I ran in the family room and took off my jeans and shirt and anything else that was soaked in hot turkey essence (my grandfather got it on one slipper) and had to get my nieces to bring me clothes. NO I am not cooking turkey!

reenee--I, too, am making my stuffing with my own bread I baked yesterday. Today I sliced and diced and chopped and measured so that tomorrow my "mise en place" is all ready to go. All I have to finish is the stuffing, make the dinner rolls and bake a pie. It will be cold enough I think I will load the car Wednesday night so all i have to do Thursday is get in and drive off.

mizbear: forgot to say that I am very happy you are not having Turkey at that woman's home. I would never enter that home again. How can people LIVE like that! YUCK. I have rehabbed homes like that but could never live in one.

Today was a total Spend Day. I decided that since I will not be leaving the house to visit any store in the next few days that I would meet a friend and shop for house items. Nothing really needed but some nice finishing touches that I will enjoy.
I will be preparing most of the Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. I do not use home baked bread crumbs -- no time or energy to bake anything I do not have to. Plus I haven't the talent.

money- My uncle introduced me to the most wonderful way to get homemade bread cubes or crumbs- Make the bread in a bread machine! Dry it out in the oven if you don't have time to let it sit out. Whiz in food pro with seasonings for seasoned crumbs or cut in cubes. He makes an awesome panzanella but won't give me his recipe I am also prepping as much as possible tomorrow.

Hootieman - I hope you feel better.
mizbear - The turkey story made me laugh.
DH and DS are coming into town today. I guess DH has a doctor's appointment. I said I would take them out to lunch if DH wanted. On Friday, they came into town and my boss was planning on taking me and my coworker out to lunch and I asked if DH and DS could join us and my boss ended up paying for DH too (DS still eats off of our plates), ok technicallly the boss had 3 free lunches because that place has lunch cards and we use them, so he covered one lunch and tip. Basically, the only thing I have paid for out of my allowance the last 2 weeks are t-shirts last Sunday that our church was selling and they were $6 each (one for DH and one for me) and FRiday is payday, but we got paid today because the office is closing at 3 today until Monday. woohoo!! (ok techinically I could work, but I'm not going to).

mk: I did go into the bank for quarters yesterday and was going to ask if they could reverse any charges. Apparently though since I transferred money before the end of the day and the charges were only pending, I won't be assessed a fee! I'm pretty excited about that and the fact that my email account alerts saved the day.

sbcalimom - yay! that's happened for me a few times where if they were both pending at the same time they cancel each other out.
In case I don't get back on, everyone have a safe and happy Turkey Day!

UPDATE: 21/23 CS/NS; 10/30 Eating out points
Doing the big cook this month has made a *huge* difference in the eating out we've been doing! Plus saving us a ton of money. Thanks to everyone for their comments on my question - we ended up increasing the budget a bit so we could get each child a bike/helmet, a couple of books, a coat, and a pair of shoes. Two little ones that didn't want bikes got some toys. We'll throw in some grocery gift cards for the adults and be done. Except for wrapping - lots of wrapping tomorrow!!!!! It is incredible how much need is out there these days. Even in DC - which has not been hit as hard by the economic downturn. We got an email from the organization we are donating through - they still had over 400 families with about 1,000 children that had *not* been matched up with anyone. Our contact said they have never had such a huge gap. They check out the families and coordinate with other local groups to minimize/prevent families from getting duplicate help. Yikes! As DH says we can't do it all but it still we both wish we could. So what am I thankful for this year - a loving DH, being in a better place financially that allows me to help others and the love and support from all my friends this year (real and virtual). So - [glow=red,2,300] Happy Thanksgiving everyone! [/glow]

update; 19 NSD, 3 CSD, 1 EOD. I started using my gift cards on Saturday when I got groceries. I had to get gas tonight and that is all the money I have spent since. I am doing good.

Today was a spend... I have had something wrong with my eye since waking up yesterday morning. The white is extremely red and it hurts to look in either direction. Went to Urgent Care this evening and they think it's a viral infection, but I'm afraid it might be uveitis (which one grandpa had, resulting in blindness) or an optic nerve inflammation (which the other grandpa had, caused by a huge brain tumor). I got some drops to control redness, but it doesn't look any better. Not looking forward to scaring people all day tomorrow and I worry about the worst-case scenario. I really hope it looks/feels better tomorrow morning Being undiagnosed (I really don't think it's a viral infection) is the worst part.

today was a spend day but earlier this week was NSD. I got dog food for the pups so I won't have to go out on Friday or Saturday and ended up getting a few other things at Target. I'm already starting to clean up and decorate for Christmas because I have a lot to do Tomorrow I'm staying home with the boys and I'll be making tri tip & shrimp to go with the mashed potatoes, soup, green beans and salad I've already prepared. Also, I have an offer for the WIR I'm getting rid of a bunch of duplicate books (kid and adult) and since they're selling for a penny each on Amazon I'd rather send them to one of y'all. I'll post a full list on my blog and link it here and if you want the books just let me know. Otherwise I'll donate them all in December to the Library Book sale.

Sorry I have been MIA. Last week at work was nuts. This week I'm off and have been having "Startsmart" days every day.
So far this week: went to the gym 4 times in 3 days (once was for an appt with my personal trainer only 30 mins) Made enchiladas made sugar cookies made whole wheat chocolate chip cookies went shopping for new kitchen appliances bought my Christmas present (iphone and it will be delivered on Friday) Ideas on apps anyone? (I think red_wagon mentioned a shopping list one?) made black beans (1 bag dry= approx 5 cans) made chickpeas went to DS's school's Thanksgiving Grocery shopping Some Christmas shopping undecorated from Halloween, left the fall stuff up. made an apple pie (check out the pics on FB) prepped potatoes for tomorrow cleaned all the wood work in the house.
MizBear- Sorry about DG. Good luck with Thanksgiving with DM & DB
Start- Way to go on the biz
Shelia- I will probably go out with my mom & SIL at midnight tomorrow, it is a tradition for us.
Midwest- Yeah on DH trying to quit. Hope your eye starts to feel better.
Muttley- Yeah on the 5K.
Hootie- Feel better
Sbcali- Yeah on not getting an OD fee.
Breadcrumbs- No one in my house likes the heels of the bread so we freeze those and then when I need breadcrumbs, I just dry them out in the oven and run them through the food processor.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

The roast didn't thaw out. So we are having chicken. Which is fine. I am sick and back in my ortho boot and just want to be left alone. But DBF doesn't get it. I am sick- go away. It won't kill you- but I might. Why don't men get that when women are sick we are evil, vile, nasty, mean, disgusting creatures that just want to lay in bed and be left alone? ESPECIALLY when we have a 30 pound boot attached to our leg!?

Turned out to be a very relaxing day for me I cleaned out the garage, pulled out all of my holiday decorations, made a good lunch and the dogs behaved themselves! I've started a list of a few of the things I'd like to pick up but I'm not sure I want to go out tomorrow at all. For instance, I'm completely out of my white tapers and need some for the candle displays. And, it turns out, I should not have donated those "extra" lights last year because now I know I'm going to need them. Of course. So my Dad called twice today which would be odd except turns out my mom lost her voice. They want me to come to town this weekend so they can cook a turkey and all the side stuff and I can attend a car tour. Really hesitant to go for some reason. I think my parents tend to pity me for being "alone" on the holidays even though it's nearly always my choice. Today I didn't want to drive 6 hours on a holiday and Nixon gets really car sick lately. Not exactly relaxing. Also curious if the car tour invite is because they've done that almost exclusively with my brother over the last few years (the only one I've attended has been because the club hosting hired me as their photographer). Since high school my invites to these car events have always had the ulterior motive of setting me up with a guy in the club or someone's son. Tomorrow I need to send out contracts to two new clients, a proposal to two more potential clients, invoice another client... basically it's client day. Oh, and I'm supposed to be training a new VA but I've been less than impressed with her responsiveness so I might fire her before she really starts.

Hope everyone had a good holiday yesterday. I have naturally gotten a terrible head cold, so don't really feel human, but did enjoy the day, the company, and the food tremendously yesterday, and we're looking to do it again at a friend's house tomorrow.

Hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving. It was a good day here. We did hit Bass Pro Shop today and got DH a $10 pair of jeans, a new stocking hat, and then I got an item for my family's adult gift exchange - $7 mini flash lights for $8 (regularly $25). Some of the other "good deals" were kind of crappy materials. I wanted a fleece sweatshirt, but they didn't have my size and then I felt them on and it was kind of itchy fleece. We went to the park and then came home and had leftovers for lunch. Tomorrow, I think we'll go to the grocery store. I'm pooped today. I was going to run during Ben's nap but decided I needed rest.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

Update: 14 NS Days and 3 CS Days
Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was great -- good company and good food. Plenty of leftovers so I won't have any cooking to do for a few days.
I am counting today as a CS day since I had to restock my allergy pills and other OTC meds. I am beginning with a sinus infection and hope that by taking the stuff I bought that I can knock it out while it is still in the early stages. Maybe I can avoid the Doctor's office and bill if this works. If not then I guess I will be seeing him next week.
I will be picking up all the fall stuff and will try to start getting some of the Christmas stuff out. I figure that I will do a little at a time. I will be hosting a get together in the middle of the month and with school and exams around the same time I need to begin decorating the house asap.

UPDATE
22 NEO 18 NSD/CSDHello everyone. I know I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks - things have been really strange for me lately and I didn't want to all my angst onto the boards and derail the thread. Anyways, I have a posting on my board for those interested at: honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=thoughts&thread=240&page=1I do have two finance related events to report: A. I had been to the grocery store last week, and as usual I keep a running total in my head as to how much the final bill should be. However when the cashier - who was In Training- hit the total button I thought the amount was a bit too high. When I got home and took a long look at the receipt, and was unpacking the bags, I ran into several problems. I got charged for a few items twice, charged for an item I never purchased, and the cashier never scanned the in store coupons on two packages of meat I had purchased. I went back the next day, with the receipt and coupons, and I received an apology and almost $25 that I had been overcharged. B. Last week I stopped on the way home from my job counseling appointment for a little of what my friend calls "Retail Therapy".I purchased: * 7 new everyday dinner plates in heavy white china with a base relief design around the rim. * An olive green cable knit cardigan. * Five long sleeve dress shirts. * A full length red wool winter coat. * A full length camel wool winter coat. And for all this I paid ...... about $43 QOTW: What do you need to do to end 2011 on a good financial note?1) Well getting my unemployment checks to start arriving would be nice. 2) Call a former employer (the company was recently sold) and see if I can cash out my pension now instead of waiting until I am 55. I would rather roll the money into mt own account. Because if I would happen to die before I collect it my estate doesn't get any of it. 3) And being compulsive I want to do another work up of my unemployment budget. Of course, I will need to KNOW what my UI benefits will be. See Item 1. COTW: Do whatever it is you noted in your question! We may still have several weeks left of this year but it's never to early to get a jump start on your planning for 2012. 1) In talking to my former boss last week about an unrelated issue, I asked if they had had a chance to complete and submit my UI paperwork back to the State. Seems they sat on Joyce's desk for almost two weeks because she was so overwhelmed with other things - but she had sent it to Corporate to complete with a note not to contest. The irony here is that I used to be the one who completed these forms and had them sign them. Which they could have done .. IF either one knew HOW to look that information up in the computer!! AARRGGHHHHHH.2&3) I will look at next week when I can call people. 4) I will complete the paperwork for COBRA insurance and get it mailed this week so I can continue my health insurance.

uck. I survived Black Friday. It wasn't pretty. The line went from the counter to the back of the store immediately after we opened at 6am, and didn't get any shorter until about 7pm. I arrived at noon, took over for someone to get a lunch break, and didn't move from that spot for 4 hours. I'm currently trying to decide whether I want to drag myself back down stairs to make some soup (I am hungry, but I'm also in quite a bit of pain). Some notes on holiday shopping: 1) Figure out what you want before you get to the counter. Because the 15 people in line behind you are glaring at me like it's my fault when you stand there dithering. 2) No one under the age of 18 needs to come with you to the store on a major sale day. Leave them home with Daddy watching football. Hire a sitter. Just don't bring them to the store. 3) Don't set your toddler on my workspace. Really. Not only are they in the way and making a mess, but I'm already exposed to PLENTY of nasty germs working in retail, I don't need toddler butt germs added to the mix. 4) If you're sick stay home. Because when you come in, I catch what you've got, but I don't get the option to stay home. So I have to come in and spread the germs to everyone else, be miserable, and stay sick a week longer because I don't get the rest I need to get over it. 5) I get that you're a crotchety old witch. Or a crotchety young witch. whatever. If you're crabby, don't go shopping. Save it for when you're not ready to scream at anyone who breathes in your general direction. Oh, and I discovered that Black Friday + PMS = extremely b*tchy reenee. And by that I mean that I almost said all of the above. More than once. Soup is winning over no soup, so I'm going to go now.

Honey - A couple of things - good job on the retail therapy - especially TWO coats - wow - they both sound lovely! Second - something doesn't sound right on your old pension. If it is a defined contribution plan you should be able to roll the money into an IRA w/o a problem. Withdrawing it will trigger taxes (You may know all this - it is my standard pension speech). Either way the money is yours, you can name a direct beneficiary or have it flow to your estate. If it is a defined benefit plan - things get trickier on cash outs (rules on age, lumps sumps, etc). You will likely not be able to roll it directly to an IRA - you would need to take a tax hit. But - most importantly - this is *your* benefit - unless the plan has a weird provision - you should be able to name a beneficiary in case you die before you become eligible to get the benefit since you have already earned the benefit. Pensions are the area I'm in (although from a very weird angle) but I do have access to the experts. If it is a defined benefit plan I am happy to ask one of our lawyers and/or actuaries to confirm what I just said (or look at a plan document if you have one - (and you should). I read your update - brings back painful memories for me. All I have are kind words: 1) you are an amazing and talented person, 2) a job search is less about you than you and more about what others think they want/need - so it isn't a reflection on you; 3) routines are great - but hard to stick to on your own - I found it helped to schedule outside meetings/activities with others 4) watch - or ask a very trusted friend to -watch for signs of depression. It is very common and understandable - but if it settles in for a long stay - you may want to get some help. BTW - how did it end with your students? Did they end up in new families or get sent home? Just curious!

24/20 so I made my goal.
On Thanksgiving had a wonderful time with family and made it to CVS and Walgreens for their deals. I should have plenty for all my gift bags for DS#2's staff and the teachers for DD and DS#1.
Honey: It is tough to be unemployed. I agree with spruby you should be able to roll over your pension or 401K to an IRA. I did it with a couple of jobs. Although I did leave my pension alone as that made more sense.
Will try to get the Secret Santa info out soon. For those participating why don't you list a few likes/dislikes interests.... Example, love chocolate, mysteries, hate the smell of lavendar that kind of thing.

Secret Santa: Names have been sent. You can use the Xmas Card list for Addresses. DF and DS#1 PM'd the names so if they are mispelled I apologize. I have terrible handwriting.... E-mail or PM me if you have any questions. I have no record of who has whom....

Update: 15 NS Days and 3 CS DaysJust a quick pop-in to say hello. The OTC meds seem to be working as I am beginning to feel better. I think that if I continue to improve that I may be able to avoid the doctor. Got some school work done today as well as the rest of the Thanksgiving/Fall decor picked up and started to get some of the Christmas items from the attic. Haven't done anything with it as of yet but at least it is in a reachable location. Hope to do a little bit each day. Honey -- Take a deep breath and realize that this period of time is a chance for you to explore the possibilities. Also like spruby I too am curious as to the outcome of the twin terrors. Start -- had some time yesterday and watched your interview. Good Job! Sapphire -- How is the room redo coming? I finally finished with my LR last week and am quite pleased with the outcome. Renee -- Hoping that once the madness of Black Friday and Saturday are over that things will become a little calmer at work. Other than work haw is everything else going?

non-work related stuff only partially work-related stuff - After much thought and consideration (and looking at the mile long list of things I need to do/repair/replace that will cost me significant cash) I've decided to start college in the Fall next year. There is a situation at work that helped that decision along, one of the part time key-holders will be stepping down before the end of January and so I'll need to replace her before I can train my replacement.
The great thing about starting college in the fall (aside from not jumping into the middle of the academic year) is that I'll be starting at the same time as my cousin K, and we'll be attending the same community college. K is exactly 10 years younger than me and we're both middle daughters. Her mom is one of my Aunts, and we've always been fairly close. When my aunt went to the same community college (before she was married) she lived with her youngest aunt and had a great experience. So of course, her first thought was to encourage K to see if I would mind having her live here while we're both in school. I'm thrilled. And K seems to like the idea too.
I finally got to the bottom of the weirdness with Mr. Potential and discovered that I had misunderstood him. So no moral dilemma. But I'm still cautious about our relationship. I don't even know if I'd call him my boyfriend, and we've been dating since August! What I do know is that I'm not blindly throwing my heart away this time. Which is good. But different for me. Hmmm, I'll have to let that thought bubble in the back of my brain for a while.
QOTW - Things I can do to start 2012 on a better financial note: - NKCW so I don't get fired. LOL. They're on my last nerve. - Work up an honest to goodness, real, adult budget for 2012 - Get through Christmas without overspending.
