Are you having hot flashes, Dark??? It's horrible. The night before last I woke up just covered in sweat. I had to get out of bed and towel off. Then I had to move the blankets and let my side of the bed dry out a little before I could get back in it. It's so gross. The thermostat was only on about 71, but the thing is about as old as I am and I'm not sure how well it works these days.

Keep in mind where her bed is positioned in the room too. The furnace and hot water heater are right on the other side of the wall from her head. The sound of them kicking on at night might be waking her up. I think that's why she insists on sleeping with the radio on. Oh, that's another one. Her radio might be too loud so instead of white noise it's actually waking her up.

I doubt it, I still had to pee when I woke up.

I'm cold natured and I have to have a fan on for the noise. Luckily, DH runs hot like the rest of you freaks and I point it at him.

Our problem is that Loop runs cold. Like really cold. I've heard her say "it's freezing" almost with chattering teeth, when the house was like 68. It's crazy. I swear if she lived alone she'd set the thermostat at about 80.

She'll sleep in sweat pants and a hoody, under our crazy thick down comforter, with the thermostat at 72, and still want to cuddle. Meanwhile, I'm stripped down to my underoos, laying on top of the blanket, elbowing her off of me, and still too hot to really sleep comfortably.

Give her some cayenne pepper before bed. Seriously, I've seen it in pill form, I bet if she took it she'd warm up.

OMG...He would be stone cold drunk and not know he was laying in his pee. More than once I shoved him right off the bed, he hit the floor with a thunk and never woke up. I took a shower, slept on the couch and when he woke up, I did not care what kind of condition he was in, I made him go out and get stuff to clean the mattress.
He literally pissed me off!

I think I killed Loopy's thread. Nope - just off topic and into far, far left field... Like usual.

In the past 4 hours I've been awakened by our 10 yo 3 times tonight. This has been happening all week, but tonight I ran her through a list of questions. She is not a snorer or a grinder. She is complaining of nothing physical or emotional. No bad dreams or stressors that she has revealed. I will take her to a doctor if it continues, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas to toss out just in case I overlooked something ( I have even inquired about her bowel movements). Thanks! Any number of benign things could be waking her up. If your doctor says nothing is wrong and your intuition says there's nothing wrong with her, perhaps you can tell her to stay in her room when she wakes up and not come into your room and wake you up?

**It interests me that when she wakes she's afraid of being the only one awake. Kinda makes you wonder if she's having bad dreams and just not remembering them. I don't remember my dreams, and there are a lot of people who don't. Have you asked why that makes her afraid and what she thinks might help with that fear? Maybe a night light, or some other comfort measure would help to alleviate her misgivings.**
This is the first thing that came to my mind too. My neighbor went through this with her daughter at nine/ten years old. But she could not remember the dreams! And it was after a major tragedy here in Florida.
Loopy, I have two things to suggest 1. She may have anxiety after the shootings recently that EVERYBODY has been talking about. And with you being in politics... that's probably why she is checking on you to be sure YOU are okay. When I was ten I went through that too. I saw a magazine about murders and it showed a pretty blond woman dead in the tub. I would wake up and check on my mom. One night I was staying the night with a friend and I work up. It was 2:00 a.m. I called the house to check on my mom, but wouldn't say why because I wasn't supposed to see the magazine. (Back then stores didn't hide stuff like that.) Anyway, they thought I was scared being away from home but I was scared I wasn't there to protect my mom. LOL!! I've always been the "protector". 2. At that age you get really smart and philosophical. I'd be up thinking about how did the world start? How is the galaxy and stars and space up there and where does it end? How can there by infinity... just weird things. I was always a major reader, as your daughter is and I was always a thinker.

Loop, could she maybe be having anxiety attacks about something and that is causing her to wake up? Like maybe listening to the news and hearing about the 9 year old girl killed in Tucson. When Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped, my daughter (who is the same age as her) had anxiety attacks waking up in the night (we live in the same state as Smart) and of course it was on the news and talked about 24/7 . My daughter was so worried about the fact that somebody could come into your home (which is suppose to be safe )and take someone. Just a thought. Oops. I didn't read page two yet. What Western said. Hi Western!! Great minds.

Her room is the closest to the furnace, tends to be the hottest, she runs hot anyway which is why she kicks the covers off her bed about half the time, and it's been a little warmer at night this last week. My guess is the thermostat is about two degree too high. She starts either under the covers and gets too hot, which wakes her up. Or not under the covers then gets too cold which wakes her up. Then she goes back to sleep either under the covers or not, and is too hot or cold again a few hours later. I could be totally wrong, but since I'm on the far end of the house from the furnace and I've been waking up too hot the last couple nights... well. Have you had her tested for hypo thyroid-ism? Those are a lot of the symptoms. Google it.

You may want to investigate what is happening at school. Someone may be giving her a hard time. Dark also posted about the school wanting to give your family gift cards. Was she aware of this and now feels bad about how she dresses. If this wasn't discussed in front of her at home she may have heard a teacher discussing it.
About this age kids will start keeping things inside and won't always tell what's bothering them. Sometimes a talk with the teacher will uncover some issues.

I vote for trying the big box fan for the dual purpose of white noise and air circulation! And do you know they make electric blankets with dual controls (one side can be on, the other off) don't you? That might be a good purchase for y'all...

Guess who slept through the night last night? She was either exhausted or it really was the necklace! We'll see what happens tonight! Thanks for all the advice! Even the really negative advice.

I'm glad she slept through the night. Maybe try getting her a journal and asking her to write a page in it when she can't sleep. Maybe she is replaying the events of the day, maybe she listened to music before bed and can't get the song out of her head long enough to fall asleep, maybe she is hungry/thirsty, etc. Hopefully it was just a temporary situation.
