Weird playoffs too with only one of the original six still alive in the second round.
that makes me very sad, actually. not at all the results I was expecting out of the first round.

I think a lot of people were surprised chiver. At least the people in my office who've watched hockey forever were that so many of the traditional powers went out in the first round.
Someone could have made a lot of money in Vegas betting against the Penguins. Apparently Vegas went all in picking the Penguins to win the Stanley Cup no doubt.

Kings Coyotes is going to be an edge of your seat series, I think. So excited that my Devils made it past the Flyers. Now to wait and see who we're facing next.

I don't think the Flyers had anything left after the opening round with Pittsburgh. My office would be a happy place if the Caps advance.

eh, I'd like to see Phoenix win one game this series. I'm surprised they are even here! oh, and I'm just now noticing the goalie's helmet skin - Wile E. nicely done, sir.

anyone watching the Rangers/Devils game tonight? I tuned in at the start of the 2nd, it was a pretty even game. Brodeur let in a wicked stinker 15 seconds into the 3rd though, look out for #1 on the "NOT top 10" list on ESPN later on, yikes.

Chiver: If only! If it's not on national network, those of use outside the NY/Boston metro area have no chance of seeing the games. I can only follow along online. I'd complain about Marty's play- but the man turned 40 these playoffs and is still one of the elite goalies in the league. He may not be the Vezina trophy winner anymore, but I'd still rather have him in net than 80% of the other goalies. (Well, actually, as a Devils fan because of Brodeur, I'd rather have him in net than anyone else, but there are some goalies, including the one he's facing, where I wouldn't have a fit if he were in goal for the Devils.)
Oh, and go Devils. One more win, and it's on to the Kings and the Cup finals!

God I love Don Cherry's suits...
Idiot me forgot that while the hockey games may not be on US network television, I get CBUT and CBC! Hockey (with decent announcers) for me!

Sorry, Iggy, but we'll take a game 5 and a game 6 if you don't mind- well, even if you do.

Congrats to the Kings. And really. there's not a whole lot I can complain about. Devils didn't even make the playoffs last year- run to the finals this year that invovled beating both the Flyers and the Rangers. Marty was having fun and playing like his old self again. And, we were the only team to take the Kings to a Game 6 in the playoffs, after everyone was certain they'd sweep. Really, as a Devils fan, I'd say it was a pretty good playoffs.

I've only seen one live hockey game in my life. That was when Jim Craig started for the Atlanta Flames after the Olympics. That was exciting but not much hockey in my neck of the woods and I don't understand the game. We did at one time have a semi-pro (I guess that is what it was) here but didn't last to many seasons.

Hmmmm, :Pam I the only hockey fan here? Where I live we have high school hockey, a youth hockey league with traveling teams to go play other areas, two minor league hockey teams, one is the Buffalo Sabres (Rochester) top farm team and one Tampa Bays (Syracuse). The Buffalo Sabres are only 125 miles from where I live. The captain of the NY Rangers is from Rochester as is a Chicago Black Hawk player. So we have a lot of hockey going on in our area.
Hockey, lacrosse and soccer are all somewhat similar with goalies, forwards and defensemen. Just played on different surfaces, with different numbers and equipment. But the raison d'etre is to get the ball or puck in the net. The one big difference is that you are allowed to hit the hockey player who has the puck or is going for the puck. This makes hockey as rough and dangerous as American football with many of the same injuries. Especially, concussions.
One of the reasons I enjoy hockey is the amazing skill the NHL players have. If you've never been on ice skates, you might not realize what a skill it takes to play hockey and stay upright!! And these players do it so well that you don't even think about the fact that they are skating unless something happens and the razor-thin skate blade causes a serious injury.
HOckey - I love it!!

I have a dual fan love - Buffalo Sabres and NY Rangers. I grew up about 60 miles from New York City and so my first rooting was for teams from the city - Yankees, Giant football and Rangers. But my adult life has been spent mostly in the western part of the state. So I also root for the Bills and Sabres.
I have never been a professional basketball fan. I prefer the college game and root for Syracuse. So my cold winter months are spent watching a lot of hockey. And with the metropolitan area having three teams, I can get a game almost every night!!

I know this thread doesn't get a lot of love, but is anyone else seeing these Brodeur trade rumors (either Minnie or Montreal) and feeling like something is wrong in the world? He's not a starter anymore (but he's also OVER 40), but still a good "backup" to have (especially since both Minnie and Montreal have injured goalies), and I get that he'd probably like to play more than he currently is (he has a "no trade" clause in his contract, so they can't do anything without his approval), but I just can't imagine seeing him in anything other than the red and white Devils sweater.

I heard something about that during a Devils game but didn't really pay attention. I can see him going to Montreal to finish his hockey years. His father was Montreal's photographer for years and that was his home. On the other hand, maybe he's one of those who has to be carried off the ice kickin' and screamin'.

Who are you cheering for tomorrow (Apr 16?)
I'm not a fan of Montreal Cdns - never have been - so I'll be rooting for Tampa Bay Lightning.
Between the Columbus Blue Jackets & Pittsburgh Penguins, I'll take the Penguins, hands-down.
Between Dallas Stars & Anaheim Ducks, it's a toss up - I can't decide on that one. I'll probably be leaning toward the Stars. (??).
