12 outta 15, I'm batting 80%. And if you'd asked me prior to looking at the list if I was a sociopath, I probably would have said yes. I'm not going on a killing spree anytime soon, but I don't really care when horrible things happen to others, even if I pretend I do since it's the expected response.

I read the list. I wish I hadn't, but I did and that's all I have to say on the subject. Does anyone know if they came out with over the counter Prozac yet? Just asking.............

Figures! If I'm rude and cynical but pretend to be sane it's all good, but if I honestly admit that I'm rude and cynical because I just don't care then I need to be watched. Whatevs.

I would also like to point out that it never specifically said you have to like hurting people. I might not care that much when I do, but I don't like get off on it or anything. I'll probably pretend to care about your problems and stuff too, and I'm good at faking it, so you'll never notice the difference. Just cause I might be bat shit crazy doesn't mean we have to stop being friends.

Maybe pretend to be sane wasn't the right way to phrase it... more like... refrain from saying certain things so I wouldn't look too insane.

Maybe being open and honest isn't such a good thing. I can see it now the next time someone's cat turns up missing. A straight bee-line to Dark or me. Honest; we're innocent, calm creatures..........for the most part.

When did you ever pretend to care and stuff? HAHAHAHAHA Well.. uh.. now I'm blanking cause you put me on the spot. I must have like offered condolences and stuff when bad things have happened to you guys, right? Or congratulated you on stuff you've accomplished, or something? Right? I may be sociopath, but I'm not normally a total a-hole.

Maybe pretend to be sane wasn't the right way to phrase it... more like... refrain from saying certain things so I wouldn't look too insane. Things like: I don't really care if some politician who I don't even know got shot in Arizona? So what if 13 kids died in the Columbine shootings, more than that die every day from starvation? Why do people really care if 2,752 people died in the World Trade Center attacks when more than twice that number die every day in the US anyways? But refraining because no one would believe you think it and were just trying to get a rise out of people?

Now MB, if we DIDN'T tease you guys then you should worry. We'd scatter and hid and start blocking... Would we really tease somebody we thought was psycho? Okay - true - MM and others do on occasion. Me. Not so much. I avoid some because they're PSYCHO!!!

Dark. I think MM is asking you what YOU meant when you said "I don't like to hurt people.." She's asking what kind of hurt did you mean. There is physical hurt and emotional/mental hurt.

Oh that. I don't think I explained it right in my initial post. It's not that I wonder about my own mental health because I like torture rabbits, or abuse my kids or something, you know? I don't even think I intentionally hurt anybody, physically or emotionally. I can get myself in trouble with the things I say, but I don't think I'm purposefully causing anyone emotional harm, I just really do think that way, or can see it anyway.
I wonder about my mental health sometimes, because I just don't seem to care like other people do. My wife sees the injustices and inequalities in the world and she wants them to change. She volunteers, she gets active, etc. I see the injustices, and I either think of a way to profit from them, honestly don't care that much, or see them as some kind of abstract logic puzzle.
I don't know, it's hard to explain.

The best way I can explain it is this.
There was some thread on the old EE a few days ago about whether or not murder can ever be socially acceptable. I posed a hypothetical example like imagine a runaway train is heading for a cliff. If it goes over everyone on board is dead. There's one alternate track you could divert it to, but there's an old lady walking across the track and she'd never be able to move in time. Would you divert the train anyway? Logically, most people say yes. Obviously the lives of the many people on the train outweighs the life of the one lady on the track. We might not like it, but we can see the sense of it. I'm pretty sure if I was the one hitting the button to divert the train, not only would I do it without hesitating, but I wouldn't even lose sleep over the old lady's death.
Not to say that I could go out and murder an old lady for no reason, but once she's already dead for whatever reason I just don't really care.

I wish I was more like you two. I'm more like Loopy. I care too much about things. Animals both domestic and wild life, abused children, the environment... to the point it makes me sick to my stomach sometimes. DH keeps telling me "Honey, you can't save the world." And I always say "I know, but I can at least try to help it."

Dark. You sound more logical to me, than psycho. And you're just not over emotional. You're probably the type that can act properly in a stressful or dangerous situation because you would be able to stay focused and not get all freaked out and over emotional. And when you worry about Loopy and your girls you can tell that it's sincere and that you don't lack compassion or normal emotion for your loved ones. I don't know for sure, as I'm not a psycho, but do they? I'm guessing they only feel something about how it affects them and not the other way around.

::when you said "I don't like to hurt people.." :: It was the part of "never specifically said you have to like hurting people, I might not care that much when I do..." I'll assume emotionally as in hurt someone's feelings. You know, like calling them a tease or something like that... It doesn't count if they really are a teast

Ok, see... but when it is logical to kill someone I will. I might feel a twinge of guilt momentarily, but not for long.
I just don't like seeing inequality, abuse, etc, for really stupid reasons - like fun or profit. That's when I get pissed off. I don't really feel bad about it though, just pissed.

I don't know for sure, as I'm not a psycho, but do they? I'm guessing they only feel something about how it affects them and not the other way around. I thought the same thing, the example sounds less emotional than sociopath. I think the more apt comparison is whether you'd stop the train at all if given the chance. You can stop the train immediately as you stand from the side and watch. Or you can do nothing and a trainful of people who you don't know will go off the cliff and die. No one will ever know you had this choice to make. A sociopath says ambivalent and therefore choose no action because they simply don't care an no action wins out over action when you are ambivalent.
