I missed another dividend increase. Just got my PG for the quarter and they're up to .525 from .4818. Nice little 9% bump. ;D

<<Fluffy misses investing>>
Fluffy to return soon (At least that's the rumor going around)
Investment trends? Per Fluffy :
Kibble futures - Which have an inverse re-proportionate regressive analysis counter trend to the upcoming shift in protein pre-production flood/drought model based on the contrary counter trending derivative shifts.
The only thing Fluffy told me about this was ............ meow meow meow meow meow
Maybe I just misunderstood?

Don't ya love it tough?....did you see post 1206 on the "beating earnings expectations" thread? Yep. Read it. Looks good for today. Hopefully companies can find a way to manage their margins and keep the dividends flowing at least at the level they're currently at. If they can keep their dividend growth up with inflation, all the better. It was not in my forecast, so it'd just mean earlier retirement than initially planned.

IN Houston - You are Back! We have missed you and Fluffy lately! Please stick around and talk Fluffy into returning also - I am looking to add some more dividend stocks soon and Fluffy's advice is always welcome here! There has been many rumors about Fluffy being on a Texas Cattle Drive and another one that put Fluffy in charge of some big secret Hedge Fund!

MCP.......will make you pee! What ever happened to these guys Frank? They closed over 77 the day before you posted this. Down around 59 now. Was the quoted post meant for the plunge thread? It qualifies at >20% (my definition of plunge).

GE is probably the BEST investment i have made in last 20 years.....
And i am in for the LONG term.....not sure if we will see the glory days numbers of 70-80 bucks a share anytime soon.....but i am liking where we are
I have a bunch of dry powder....keep adding a little here and there
Really would love to hear about the rate hikes though

That's the biggest threat to my retirement plan. If so, how far back from what they were paying have they come?

Drftr
I would have to look at what they were paying....but i know it was a HUGE drop from heydey
They resumed dividends in early 2010? and have raised them 3-4 times since then
Still nothing to shout about.....but on the right track
My total return including dividends is 142.7% as of eom Mar 11
Even better than the silver i bought.....

I went and looked after I asked. If I remember right, up at the top I think they were paying 31 cents. Now back to 15. If the governement ever allows the multi-year recession or depression built into our ponzi economy to run it's course I believe my strategy of dividend stocks may be a bad one. That's a big if though. Think I might just head over to my brokerage and IRA accounts and set some stops. Not sure...
Probably would have been better to buy it back then rather than when you posted about it eh? Hope noone here did.

Thanks Sangria - I don't own either of these - I'll look into them in the AM. The yields are right for me!

Check out PM instead of MO. If I remember correctly PM is more international and MO is more US. PM has been a top performer of mine since I picked them up last year.

Thanks Drifter,
I already own PM - You guys convinced me last year on that one. The two that Sangria suggested I don't own. Any thoughts on them?

I happen to have both in my portfolio
Altria (MO) is more US focus but prices were really depressed....i think fair now @ approx 24-26 share
Phillip Morris has been a core member for years (steady dividend growth, intl sales)
Both are tobacco....which has been a great area (low pe's....and great dividends)
But...only caveat...US has already started crackdown on smokers....more rules and laws will follow from other countries.....
Own...but be aware of the possible changes

The two that Sangria suggested I don't own. Any thoughts on them? As Gdgyva said, MO is just PM, but more US. IMO the better yield is due to increased risk of smoking becoming even less accepted here. The APU seems fine to me at a glance, but I wouldn't personally be interested in them today because they pay in month 2 (Treasury interest month). I also need to point out that I don't do anywhere near the research most would consider to be required before I pick up a stock. Debt/equity, payout ratios, etc. When I started buying the ones I own I just went with names I knew that I expected would make it through the coming depression intact. I also tried to spread out between different groups. I chased yield on a couple fliers I picked off one of Houston's lists (NMM/WHX) and did well with one and poorly with the other (so far). I also doubled down on BP after it fell further than when I initially bought it because I expected it to be resolved somewhat similarly to the Exxon Valdez.

It looks like BP will be just fine in the long term- Growth and a Dividend - Best of both worlds!

I have to admit I was one of those that thought it was the end of the Gulf. I humbly admit I was wrong and in fact I'll be vacationing down there this Summer. Sometimes we underestimate the power of our Planet to take care of itself!

I always figured our politicans were flogging the oil spill in the news just to ensure a significant chunk of pay back money from British Petroleum.

When mother earth is ready to eradicate the pests (humans) that inhabit her planet, she will, and it will not be some small oil spill, or man made event
The BP incident....chernobyl, japan, earthquakes.....these are all tragic events.....but it matters little to the planet as a whole

RUN!!! CHEESE METEOR!!!Actually Virginian, I prefer electricity over gas and oil, so my largest utility holding is PNW. Natural gas (APU) can get real squirrily in the winter time. Use goes up and cost goes up. Old people complaining on the news that they cannot heat their home. Bad public relations. Sometimes this leads executives in natural gas companies to make bad decisions. They need to learn to love gouging.

Thanks ! Yes I have been wrong more than a few times in my life but if you don't own up to it then did you really learn from it? Mother Earth has been around for Billions of years and something tells me she will rid herself of us when she's good and ready.
