I am starting to see great results now that I switched my portfolio to all Dividend paying stocks! ( I do have a few bond funds still) I fired my Broker and opened a Schwab Acct a few months ago and now I get to keep the profits the Broker and the Mutual Funds were siphoning off. I should have done this years ago!

I hear ya. If I'd just picked this core group 20 years ago when I started working and re-invested the dividends quarterly I think I'd be typing this from the deck of my house in Bermuda rather than from the desk in my office. At least we have something we can teach our kids.

Lessons learned the hard way are never forgotten
Yeah....i wish i too had made different choices when younger.....but as my wife told me last night, those choices and hard times are what molded me into the man i am today
All we can do is try to teach our youngsters a better way.....and hope like hell some of the lessons actually stick
And guide them on a better path than we took

Schwab is great for trust preferred purchases. My portfolio used to be almost exclusively trust preferred stocks.
I tried Driftr's idea of spreading quarterly-paid dividends around so that something is posting every month of the quarter, but some months are hard to fill. I asked one of the guys at the Schwab office once if there were any rhyme or reason that a company picked a particular month of the quarter to post their dividend. He said it was all just corporate whim, but there were no bookkeeping or tax reasons for any of the three months.
The only other solution I've been able to find are stocks that pay a monthly dividend. My favorite is GOODO.

Nice little 9% pop in the WHX dividend this quarter. Up to .728739 from .667847 last quarter. (Edit-I think I may be wrong on this, I have not been updating my WHX stuff very often because I hate the stock and my reasons for buying it)
EXC finally moving the right direction too Q. :-)
Sangria, Which month are you having trouble 'filling'?

Driftr, it looks like the most common posting month for quarterly dividends is the third month of the business quarter, less common is the first month of the quarter, and the least common is the second month of the quarter (February, May, August, November).
I have some securities that post in the second month of the quarter, but they are small positions and I don't want to add to my positions in them.
They are:
Amerigas British Airways Procter & Gamble Raytheon Bank of America series J preferred stock.
I'd be comfortable putting more funds in Bank of America series J preferred stock (7.25% annual dividend), but the call date is 2012, so it won't be around for long (if they decide to call it at the first opportunity, which doesn't always happen).

Sangria - If you're not averse to telecom, VZ pays in 2nd month. T probably does too, but FrankQ owns them, so they are bound to be worse than VZ with me. I have also had some good luck with NMM (INHouston turned me on to them). I have more 1st month stocks than second because I get paid from the 10 year treasuries I buy each month via Treasury Direct in 2nd month. 1st month favorites are PM/KO/WMT/KFT.
Virginian - No, not yet. Not going to do research today when I'm definitely not buying anything new until at least the end of June.

They charge $5 for the first month but might be worth your while since they list them by their X date.
Where is InHouston? I miss him and Fluffy!

That is a nice dividend on VZ. Their income growth shows in the red, not sure how much weight to give that.

Last I heard he had a parent up north sick or dying (can't remember). He was gone for quite a while taking care of that and then stopped in briefly here for a day or two before going back on hiatus. When he left I think he still had a large list of div payers, but I think his more recent plays had been shorting the market.

Hopefully he will return soon. I got most of my Dividend Stocks from his list and they have been very good picks! I do miss his good natured sense of humor! Fluffy was the best.

I also miss In Houston. We haven't heard from Como Kate in a while either. Fluffy would post, but has been out on an extended cattle drive for the last few months.

Fluffy is a great investor! Fluffy must have left because of the rumors of causing the flash crash some time back!
Fluffy doesn't seem as Happy on the Trail. Maybe stepped into one too many Cow Patties!

Hi Bimetal - I'm definetly not a Bear right now. I'm almost 100% in stocks - only a couple of Bond Funds but all else is in Dividend Stocks. I have done really well and am looking for a DOW of 14,000 by December. Fluffy taught me well!

He is selling out of T-Bonds and T-Bill before QE2 runs out.. The Water Street line was a lot of trading in Bonds and bond houses are at 55 Water Street until the Freedom Towers are finished. As before low Beta high yields are one of the best Hedge against a decline in the DJIA.. I you check the data, DJUA has out preformed DJIA from 1999 until today. Also I did better in bonds over this period of time, but things are changing. Now for the first time in years I am a Bond Bear.. bullish on Stocks esp. High Techs(also). Thank-you.. Sorry If I got you upset. Please aspect my apologise .I know you have posted that you are 100% invested. I have added cash for the change in direction in high Beta stocks.. QQQ Trend is still down. I was just trying to work the four legs of Louie into the dog race.. He is always the instigator.. They are four more Japanese Chins on the Play. La Pox, Bi metal Au Pt Update Well the gang heard about a very large Russian Boar North of Stephenville, TX.. Took the Thud Master and many rounds of heavy DGS 500gr out this AM for the Hunt.. This animal has done a lot of damage to crops and is very much dangerous.. Now he has three Expert Sharp shooters on this case.. Attachments:

I'm all good! Maybe Louie & Fluffy should start an Investment thread someday - Sounds like they both have great strategies! I'm a buy a hold Investor. I don't sell unless a company gives me reason not to believe in them for the future. A couple like Intel & IBM are all about the future for me. Some good Ideas coming. I'm not into short term plays usually. I have been burned by these a couple of times in the past.

BTI when the sharp shooters take care of that boar, you could get the head mounted and put it in that new fixer upper your looking at in NYC. ;D
