there is a thread over on P&M (I think? I sort by new topics) that's talking about legalizing drugs. I apologize for making anyone uncomfortable with introducing this over here, but I thought some of you would be able to speak intelligently about comparing the harsh effects of ANY drug - from nicotine to meth. you've all been so open with everyone so far, I thought maybe there could be some education for the ignorant? this is the post that prompted me to post it here: notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=politics&thread=15945&page=2#648250thanks, and peace.

Just got off the phone with SIL. It looks like we're down to days, maybe a week. His father lasted about 5 days in the same situation so I guess that's somewhat standard. He did "come around" a bit when the grandkids showed up this afternoon. She will be spending the night(s) at the hospital starting tomorrow. God, I feel so bad for her going through this.......

May he go peacefully, hugs from us all.

I added my two cents Chiver, but I always find it funny, when someone who hasn't walked in my shoes tells me about what I know, LOL. IE, someone who is not an addict saying, "No it'll never happen to me" (I remember saying that about 1980 Somethings they gotta learn themselves.

thanks, roy. the funny thing about tough is that she always has an anecdote for whatever is being discussed. either she's gone through it herself, or she knows a guy whose uncle married a girl that did exactly what you were talking about and how can you possibly know more than she does about it? I was just concerned with the level of ignorance present with a post that says booze isn't as addictive as other stuff.

Everyone knows more than the person that's actually been there And I know peeps just like tough. It is what it is ;D

Read the entire thread. I don't think it's going to be worth my time to contribute on certain subject matters, no matter what facts I have to back up what I have to say as they're dead-set in their ways. I am truly sad for those that have no empathy on that board.

I saw you in there Roy, but the entire thread just made me a bit sad. I just don't understand why there isn't any empathy. Some people are just so amazingly cold. I have to think they're either very young or from a family that has experienced hardships linked to alcohol or drug abuse. Either way, prayers all around. While I would agree a person has to decide for themselves to move on, some of the coldness displayed was terrible. I am grateful to Roy and everyone else that is here that has encouraged me. I am encouraged seeing the progress made by other people on a daily basis. It's always good to know I'm not the only one struggling, to see others struggling, yet to also see others succeeding. By striving to do better and educate others (as I feel alcohol education is terrible in terms of the long term effects), perhaps we all can make a difference. I hope I can be an encouragement when it is needed. Thinking of you all tonight.

Thanks Iggy! I've had moments of "sliding backwards" today already.... I was kinda hoping for a few free days. But I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. Daphne, Chiver, Iggy and everyone else that might be concerned. "Sliding backwards" is pretty much a part of the process. There will be days when you ask yourself, "Why did I ever decide quitting was a good idea? I really miss it." Maybe you miss it because your body has been so accustomed to alcohol it's crying out for help to re-balance itself? The really good news is that the longer you go without alcohol in your system, the less you will "miss" it so hang in there and fight the fight on those days that are difficult - you'll get through it just fine.

You know I run into it in real life when I volunteer at the rehab, some of the worst offenders by the way are drinkers and users (many with addiction problems and in big time denial) They rationalize that they're way better than the heroin addict in the street, or the crachead on the corner. Sad.... Addiction is addiction, denial is denial..... End of story ;D

Good morning all. I'm just swinging by for my accountability check. I did indeed go to my meeting last night. I really tried to avoid it though. I mean, it snowed here Thursday night. And I was cold. And tired. Blah blah blah. But man. 30 minutes into that meeting I knew I needed to be there. It was very, very good and I feel tons better already. I need to make it a weekly thing and get back there as often as possible. I need to reiterate to those who haven't gone to a meeting to try and find one. There are some good ones, some bad ones and some really, really great ones. Find one where you're comfortable and just sit back and relax for an hour or so. Forcing myself to go to that meeting was the best decision I've made all year! I think that while I haven't had a drink, I haven't actually been "sober" these last few months. I've heard that saying before. And now I get what it means....

Very good Kent. Daphne, you know it's part of the process, again we balance our clean time with our using time, it takes time to get the kinks out. Daphne, do you have a sponsor? Do you run these things by your sponsor? I have my sponsee's writing gratitude lists right about now, as does my sponsor when I get like this

PLAIN AND SIMPLE THIS MORNING: If you don't like the effect, don't produce the cause. Don't indulge the ego by listening to its attacks on truth

For those "lurkers" that haven't stepped up yet:
If you don't think you have a "problem," ask yourself when was the last time you had a drink. If you can accurately respond with little hesitation, you have a "problem." Only those with said problem can pin point the exact date without hesitation because they are always thinking about their last "fix."
Roy? Right?

Yep mine was Jan. 26th, 2001 at 11:20 (give or take a couple minutes) By the way......I HAVE A PROBLEM! Very true Kent. There are so many ways to check if you have a problem, I posted back a few pages. Problem is most like the denial route. Pointin' fingers is easier ;D My sober date is Jan. 27th, 2001

I have more peace and contentment. Life has fallen into place. The pieces of the jigsaw puzzle have found their correct position. Life is whole, all of one piece. I am not cast hither and yon on every wind of circumstance or fancy. I am no longer a dry leaf cast up and away by the breeze. I have found my place of rest, my place where I belong. I am content. I do not vainly wish for things I cannot have. I have "the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In all of us there is an inner consciousness that tells of God, an inner voice that speaks to our hearts. It is a voice that speaks to us intimately, personally, in a time of quiet meditation. It is like a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. We can reach out into the darkness and figuratively touch the hand of God. As the Big Book puts it: "Deep down in every man, woman, and child is the fundamental idea of God. We can find the Great Reality deep down within us. And when we find it, it changes our whole attitude toward life."
:)Hope everyone had a great weekend ;D
