Hi. I just saw this thread and it fits me, too.
I have been depressed since fifth grade and had to retire because of it. The medications they have now allow me to function quite well--most of the time. Like others, if I don't take them pretty much every day, I get all out of kilter. I know it now and know I have to take my meds.
Back when I had to retire, I spent weeks in bed and couldn't get up to go to work or do anything else. It was horrible. Like a dear friend said at the time, if I hadn't done that, I'd probably have committed suicide by now, so I don't look back.

I always wonder why people are so willing to spend time, money and energy on their physical health, things, hobbies, etc but will let their mental health suffer or fall by the wayside. There is still a stigma attached to depression or in admitting it. I think that physical health has a lot to do with mental health. True, and vice versa. |

Good morning to all.. I see theres' been some movement in the house.. Yaaaaaaaaay! Theotherme.. <--- Love the nic. So befitting of one who suffers with depression.. I totally understand the mental position you were in while attending fifth grade.. It's amazing how far back we can trace the beginnings of our realizing something wasn't quite right with our state of joy or lack of joy as children.. I am one who shunned meds at all cost, and was in complete denial of having any mental weakness's attached to me.. But my walls of denial came tumbling down all around.. I was forced into treatment, but today I can honestly admit.. I had some of the worst days in my life, but now, I experience many good days, thanks to treatment.. My worst days are behind me.. Thank God. Though there may be a few upcoming -- not-so-good-days ahead of me.. Now, I am better equipped to manage those times and keep plowing my way forward.. Sounds like you've put your worst days behind you too.. Meds are not to be shamed for.. I found that out the difficult way.. Hi Miz Bear! And how do you do? Yep, it is the one and only me, fromtheheart.. Keeping all things simple, girl. Makes life easier and less stress-filled.. Tmr.. I'm watching you.  |

Hi Weezy! We've got the same temps here. Crazy weather, went from 50's one day to 80's the next. But I'm not complaining. Hi mizbear! I just read your signature quote and it's wonderful! My signature came from one of the other ladies on another thread here. When the money threads were shut down on MSN and we moved here. She said we could use it if we liked it. I liked. And it fits me in so many ways.
We also are having crazy temps here- just glad that we are not having the 100+ temps anymore.

HOWDY ALL! It's me...It's me! I made it over to our new place!
Sure have missed you all!
Sure hope this works....
Just to let you know, some of the fires are starting to be contained. No one in my family has lost property, except for a small barn and grass (wasn't much grass to begin with) on at my Mom's. NO ONE has been injured. Scared YES! I ask that you say a small prayer for those who are suffering a loss, or those who are in fear of losing property and for those brave people who are battling the horrible fires. I am proud to say my nephew is one of the many brave souls who volunteers their time to help others in need.

metwo!!!   So glad to see you made it here! I've been reading your posts on the other board but couldn't post as I was banned. I'm so sorry to hear of all the fires in your area. Thank God that no one has been severely affected in your family. Barns can be rebuilt. You and everyone who is at risk from the fires are in my thoughts and prayers. Prayers also go to your nephew and all those brave enough to battle the fires. |

metwo, it did work. Horrible scenes from those fires! It's just unimaginable the devastation that's going on there, but miraculous that no lives have been lost. Pray that it continues that way.

Yes, including the moron of a boss I had at the time. On my final day of work, I told him that I wouldn't wish depression as severe as mine on anyone but that may be the only way he would ever understand it.
It was very hard for me to accept that I have to stay on the meds. They didn't really keep me on an even keel until I finally saw a great doctor in about 2006 and he put me on my current "cocktail". This cocktail works. None of the others did the trick.
I proved to myself that I have to stay on them when I decided to go off the meds cold turkey and was right back in to the big black, dark hole.
Not going down that path again.
