Just my two cents on the moderator issues: Moon, if I may give my "serious" opinion on the issue. I think it would be in the best interest of the new boards to have the "old" (both figuratively and old in RL ie Sam) be moderators here. It would be bad news imho to have the posters just suddenly be moderators. First they have no expience and have past histories with other posters. Additionally, the old moderators have shown that they have what's most important and that's time. Time to adequately moderate. This would also, more importantly, provide a sense of continuity from the older boards. I think if the old moderators agree to the "new" spirit of the boards in which there would be a more relaxed moderating style it would work well so long as Moon keeps the right to remove moderators. Blue lol I have no desire to moderate despite my EE claims otherwise. My posting style is not condusive to such and should I lose that ability I would quickly lose all interest in the boards. Just something to think about Moon, as the old mods seem quite willing to do the awful task of being hated (TD thrives on hate to be sure

I actually agree with the Pig for once. But if the old Mods are our New Mods...they have to agree to give me occasional use of the smite button. I really do need to smite the snot out of some people on occasion. I do think that there are other people who will make good mods. I have no problem with new people doing it as well. BUT I do think our old Mods have the experience.

LOL to both Pig and Angel. Glad Moonbeam set this up so we don't all lose contacts with each other.

So TD declines. 'Cept for Rovo and Mod E, all mods should be new.

Pig, I do agree with you, regarding the experience. However, having not had the chance yet to read any of the sign up threads, I don't even know if any of them are interested. I would imagine they're burned out on it and tired of being bashed, hence TD's refusal.
Perhaps I'm naive, but I really hope that not a lot of moderation is even necessary.

I think I saw that Sam and Later would. And I suspect we can bully Rovo into doing whatever we want. Virgil also does whatever we tell him.

I think we will find, as the boards grow, the need for more rules in order to have a civilized board(s). I'm not proposing anything at this time but I think we will find a need to limit / erase spam and to control the unbridled use of profanity.

Gotta agree with Rovo. However, I think the moderating should be less controlled than MSN. I only speak for myself but I think a lot of other regualars want some slack. But I'm not wanting this to turn into a swear vulgar rant board either.
PS I do NOT consider toilet, feces and such as "vulgar". Constant F bombs yes but not farts.

Nice idea in theory 973 but that's a lot of work for Moon. And that would provide for zero consistancy. I mean you could post "fart" and Rovo thinks it's ok then two weeks later Beer bans you for saying it? Not good imho.
ETA I'm not trying to argue, just stating what I find obvious. I don't really have any stake but just stating what I'd like to see as far as the new boards go.

One other thing. Doc and Rovo please comment on this if you want. I think the different boards should maybe nominate the people they want to be a mod. The people the posters want to be a mod on SI. or WIR or PM or MT may not be the same one that the majority of posters on other boards know. I think a great mod for SI would be SBS or DI. Not to say that I don't love Rovo or Mod E but I think people on EE would vote for them simply because they know them. I am sure there are posters on the other boards that are very well thought of by the posters of that board that I wouldn't know at all. Just my 2 cents.

Voting is an option I wouldn't have any issues with it. However, since J thinks people are stupid he is not allowed to run! Or, if he wins he has to admit that he was chosen by stupid people. I kill me......

I do it myself, as you know. but I don't want to hear/see F bombs constantly. So, I guess we'll see how it goes. I'm sure Rovo is right as well that things will require changing as time goes by.

I'm hoping the same thing, but we'll have to see if everyone can act like adults and behave. And we will be subject to some spam that will have to be dealt with.
I don't mind the occasional salty language, but I (and I'm sure most of us) don't want a board filled with profanity.

I kill me...... I wish someone would I, as a Humanistician, believe that most people are stupid. Not all. Clearly, the wisdom to elect the O of YM (and hopefully soon, the O of NMSN), is a sign that those voters are not most people.

One thing that CAN be done on this board is word substitutions. SJ already found out that he can type one thing and it will post as something else. It's not foolproof, of course, but it is always an option if the %*(@# starts getting out of hand.

moon, don't ruin this site with the old mods, other than Rovo or Mod E. They are at least mellow. Several of the others are not and are stuck in the mores of different centuries. Just pick mature, mellow posters. You have been around enough to know which are which.

Blue, what I'm letting people do is sign up if interested. Some are being nominated. I will take all of them from each 'board' and put them in a poll and then everyone else will choose. I plan to do it on a per board basis.

Moonbeam I would suggest as you are doing now , regarding Moderators , is the way to do it. Nothing against the old moderators, they did do a good job overall, yet they also were human and had their pets and favorites,beliefs, that came to the surface at times, and while they did fine for the majority of the time, there were times they did lose it. As far as what is the criteria for posting here, common sense , good manners with a honest sense of humor. There are enough seperate groupings here for everyones interests, in fact for those who really want no contact from the other side , I bet we could have a zone just for the rights and another for the the lefts and no mixing and comments are allowed. If so, immediately a week in the corner with a Dunce hat. Posters may read but not comment, if from the other side, possible have to declare before hand like we are doing regarding the gender here, just steam away and then go to their site to vent away..LO {By the way, while some might be saying "great idea that one ", I was tongue in cheeking on that suggestion, not really seriouse.{sheesh}

I agree! can we get our msn moderators to agree. They could give themselves new names if it would make them more agreeable to coming over.
