I use the ironing board in the living room so I can watch tv. I'd probably stab myself in the brain if I had to iron in the kitchen without entertainment. I didn't say that we actually use the ironing board, I just said that it is always in the kitchen. I do use it when I get in a sewing mood.

I had mine set up in living/dining area. Then I moved some stuff around like putting the couch where it belonged and it didn't fit in that spot. Since then I've been playing how long can I go without ironing. If I ever get enough of the floor cleaned off in the spare bedroom I will probably set it up in there.

I've gotten better about not leaving it out -- it generally lives in the laundry room.

Ha the washer and dryer is a stackable unit squished in the kitchen. Drives me nuts bc there's no place to put the basket of dirty clothes. So the dirty clothes live on the floor of the other bedroom bc the 1 laundry basket I own is usually full of clean clothes if I've taken laundry home to do or if I've thrown it in there bc I haven't a clue where else to put it.

Thankfully I have a laundry room (more of a closet) with the washer and dryer. I have plenty of places to put my clothes, but half the time the clean ones sit in the basket until it's empty.

I have my jewelery mostly in the bathroom. I bought one of those bars that have 6 hooks on them and hang my necklaces and bracelets on that. It makes it really easy to find something while I am getting ready for work.

...we have family friends that built a dream house... master suite has a HUGE walk-in closet that is like 30x15... and they put the w/d hookups in there... brilliant...

On another, but related subject, does anyone else think it's strange that on just about every cop show on TV they always go to the closet to figure out what kind of person lives there (control freak, etc)? If they were to look at my closet they would say disorganized sociopath. What does your closet say about you? With the exception of socks and undies, everything is put on a hanger. And that includes my white undershirts. Beyond that, dress clothes are on the top rack, sweaters first, then button downs, then dress pants and then jeans. On the bottom rack are "lounge around the house" sweatshirts and long-sleeved t-shirts, nicer winter-time shirts, then nicer button down and polo summer shirts, then t-shirts - all color coordinated. At the tail end are my white undershirts and a couple sports jerseys. It all says I'm highly anal retentive and perhaps slightly OCD, but that's ok. I work with the cops....they'd never suspect one of their own.

...yes... IN the closet... how many people have you met with a w/d closet in the upstairs hallway, simply steps away from the bedroom doors? therefore, it made sense to simply remove the hallway separation and put the hookups inside the closet... and they still have plenty of floor space... and a bay window, if I recall...

I could itemize my laundry to do. It's actually ironing my shirts.

Hang the dang polos already!
Cops? If they were looking at the hanging clothes or the folded sweaters, they'd think color coordinated, but not a whole lot else going on up there. If they were looking at the rest of the shelves, they'd either take me away or challenge me to a shooting match - depending upon why they were looking in the first place.

Our ironing board is in the closet. I pull it out once or twice a year. Given that Hubby is a math professor and I'm a SAHM, there's no need for ironed clothes.

Like I said before, I rarely iron - my mom actually just got me an ironing board the last time she visited because she was tired of ironing on the bed And before kids, I was really anal about my closet. It was organized by 1 - work or play 2 - top or bottom 2-a - pants or skirts 3 - color 4 - long or short (sleeves and skirts) I had racks for my shoes and bins to keep my purses organized... Now, I'm lucky if I can find what I'm looking for in the pile of clean clothes currently waiting to be hung up heaped on a chair in the bedroom! And forget about keeping my shoes organized, apparently DS likes women's shoes...and will pull them all out, so now they just stay on the floor of the closet

Ironing? Only in extreme emergencies. I'm of the 'pull it out of the dryer damp and hang it immediately on nice fat plastic hangers' school of thought. My closet is a 'walk-thru', not a 'walk-in. On one side I have an organizer with shoes on top and pullout wire basket shelves underneath. I love the pullout baskets. To one side of that is a narrow (12"?) 'tall' rack, for dresses etc. To the left of it is an upper/lower rack. The upper has summer short sleeve tops. The bottom has cold weather polar fleece vests and jackets. The shelf on top has old Christmas presents waiting the proper opportunity for regifting. Across from it, the other closet is divided into right/left. The right half has an upper/lower rack, with dressier blouses and tops above, and below has winter sweat shirts & long sleeve t's. The left side of this closet has my laundry basket on the floor, and more space for dresses. This closet is quite deep and has shelves built floor to ceiling hiding behind all the clothes. In the back I have spare pillows, hiding places for Christmas presents and storage for all my tote bags and purses. Nothing is color coordinated, and it's crammed full of stuff. I guess this means I too am a closet 'ho.

How do you have them organized? I think I have every color of flip flop Old Navy's ever made.... I did start on the closets. All of the hanging stuff is hanging up and I went through the winter stuff and started laundry. Now I need to set up the dresser, pack the summer stuff up, and put together those wire cubes for the bottom of my closet to hold the tank tops and baskets of sockies, undies, and bras. Shoes I had boxes for are neatly stacked on the shelf in the work clothes closet.

This thread inspired me to clean out the closet last night and put everything back in neat and orderly, I can't believe I actually was able to get it done. I didn't go as far as color-coding all the hangers, but if I stare at it anymore, I might have to go that route. Now the biggest challenge is going to be keeping it that way. I do wish it was a little bigger, but it will have to do. My stuffs in the back, my wife gets the right side, and the left side holds her necklaces/jewelry and my hats (I hung all her jewelry on a series of nails I drove into the wall). I think I'll tackle the storage room next, who knows what lives in there.

Oh yeah if I had to share the closet space here this would not work. Not sure I want to share closets with anyone again, I like having the spare bedroom as my walk in closet
