I started last week but I just look at it and bury my head in the sand.
At least you started. My closet's in hideous shape and it's the lab joke. Whenever I mention that this might be a good weekend to clean out my closet, my coworker laughs at me.
I've lost Christmas presents in this closet.

Oh yeah I have no idea what I'm going to do with my shoes. Shoes are easy, just buy one pair, wear them until they wear out, buy new pair and throw the old ones away, I mean how hard can that be..

Thick plastic hangers should work for polo shirts if you don't want to invest the money in more expensive hangers. I only use the puffy satin hangers for special sweaters.

I have a walk in closet. My ex had so many shoes, they literally filled up the floor on her side, the floor on the back, and half the floor on my side. That didn't count the 10 pairs or so that were in the entryway at any given time, and the 5-10 pairs floating around the bedroom.

LMAO! I accidentally work<---oops, "wore"--- my steel-toed boots home the day before my surgery, I was trying to figure out what I was going to do. I did manage to find an old pair of sketchers I could wear, but they were in poor shape. I have one pair of tennis shoes I wear for working out, a pair of Sorel's (snow boots), one pair of sandels for summer, and one pair of granny boots for dates. That's it. Somehow I missed the shoe-gene.

Shoes are a little bit of a problem for me too. I cannot decide how to best organize them. Really, I don't have a ton of shoes but I do have to dress for work and that requires heels of different colors and heel sizes. Right now they are on the floor of the closet (but they always go in the closet no matter what). I would really like to get a nice wooden shoe rack but am afraid it would be a real waste of money as I am not likely to actually put the shoes back on the rack once I am done with them.
My goal is to take out everything I don't wear often and put it in my spare closet. But I think I will wait until spring for this as I would then be able to put away my "winter" clothes.

There's a heavy-duty plastic hanging bag (that looks a bit larger than a suit-bag) for closets that has open 'pockets' for holding a pair of shoes in each pocket. They can hold about a dozen or so pairs of shoes to keep them organized & off the floor. If you don't have a lot of room in the closet, you can also put a hook on one side of a door and hang the bag there too.

Oh yeah, I forgot -- she had two of those hanging things full, and the ones on the floor weren't just a single layer - they were stacked.

OK, I know this is a boring topic, but I'm in the process of organizing my closet, and being male, I lack certain cloths related genes. My first basic question is, is it better to fold polo shirts up and put them on a shelf, or can I hang them up? I used to keep them on a shelf, but they would get all wrinkly, but I'm afraid they will get hanger marks if I hang them up. What are your thoughts? On another, but related subject, does anyone else think it's strange that on just about every cop show on TV they always go to the closet to figure out what kind of person lives there (control freak, etc)? If they were to look at my closet they would say disorganized sociopath. What does your closet say about you? Dude. Hanger marks? You care about hanger marks? Time for you to come out of the closet and stop worrying about what's in the closet.

There's definitely a latent gene that is made dominant by an extra X chromosome. If it's a Y chromosome, replace shoes with tools.

< I accidentally work my steel-toed boots home the day before my surgery >
My boss called me during my Thanksgiving holidays to know if I come home early to go to Fort Saint John in BC. Umm. no. However, I did make a tight connection out of Vancouver (tight because my flight out of Cinncinatti into Seattle was 2 hours late and I still have to drive to Vancouver). On the way to Vancouver I stopped to grab my work gear and noticed that my work boots have had nearly their soles eaten out by "something".

I had one of those hanging things but it was all ripped so I threw it out. My new closet doors aren't wide enough to hang it on anyway. I'd get a new one and hang it on one of the bedroom doors but the stupid things barely shut the way it is. Maybe I should have kept the boxes like Alicia and stacked them up on the closet shelves. I could do that for the ones I still have boxes for. At my old place heels were lined up under my bed, tennis shoes and boots were in one corner in spare bedroom (aka my walkin closet) and flip flops were in one of those zip up bags for under the bed storage. My dad ripped that up while moving my stuff so they need a new home too. Oh great J's going to love my shoe collection Mich I think I've said two weekends in a row I'm going to stay home and unpack. Doesn't help I'm trying to sort out seasonal stuff too. Trying to get the cold weather stuff unpacked.

I got used to it. I remember when the ex and I were first dating, we decided to take her bed off of the little riser things it was on (the bed was under an eave, so we put it on the bed. At the time, she had shoes spilling out of her closet, and filling a shoe rack, and a hanging thing on her closet door. When we started getting the stuff out from under the bed, it was just box after box of shoes.... Besides, your shoes are sexy She had like 10 pairs of crocs.

My closet and entire house is organized. I even had DH install those closet organizers and added the thingys to store your shoes and sweaters and added a jewelry drawer, etc. Did I ever mention I was anal? I hate wasting time looking for stuff. How do you think I find so much time to run my mouth here?

That's the problem POM, I'd bankrupt myself buying all the organizers I'd need. I need to do something about the jewelry. I forget I have some of it.

Crocs are not shoes!!! Black 4 inch heels are shoes I agree. She didn't even have real heels -- just those 1" things where they're the size of the heel. Yet I still managed to compliment her on them, not that it helped.

I remember Carrie looking at all the shoes she had and realized she had spent at least $40,000 on shoes over the years.

I admit I don't like a bunch of crap. Even nice crap is still crap if there is too much of it.

Carrie had Manolos though. Sadly my most expensive shoes are still the north face snow boots. I gotta do something about that. I have lots of other pretty shoes but they were cheaper than those boots. I'll let you practice complimenting me on real hot shoes

Yea but it also doesn't make sense to spend a lot of time/money buying or building stuff for this place when hopefully I can move to an area I like better when my lease is up.

Shoes go in the kitchen by the ironing board.

There's no room in my kitchen for the ironing board. Literally I can't open the fridge and the dishwasher at the same time. I know weird but sometimes I'm multitasking while cooking

Ours is a kitchen dining area. The ironing board is always up over by the kitchen table. DD says the kitchen looks weird with out it. When I get home from work I stand at the end of counter near the ironing board and go through the mail. While going through the mail I kick off my shoes and that is where they usually stay.

I use the ironing board in the living room so I can watch tv. I'd probably stab myself in the brain if I had to iron in the kitchen without entertainment.
