You forgot..Kennedy did, Bobby, against Carter..in fact Carter is still pissed at him today and belives it had a lot to do with his losing.. Guess he forgot that interest rates on CD's were as high as 17%..you figure out what a bank loan would be. Actually, it was Teddy Kennedy against Carter, Bobby entered the race in 68 after McCarthy showed that Johnson was vulnerable (not sure if Johnson had done his "If nominated ...." speech when Bobby announced). Reagan challenged Ford in 76. Stand corrected..I had a feeling but was to lazy to google..but also remembered now Carter was still unhappy with , very much so..with Teddy when he was alive...Bobby gone so young..so thanks for the correction, important because of so many younger readers and posters here, not wanting to give the wrong information historically. "I personally think that Ron Paul is too scary.. "

"Also, it's curious that you're a fan of Ms. Clinton's policies and Rep. Paul's policies. There's not a whole lot of overlap between the two. "
I'm not well versed in Ron Paul's policies except his end the Fed one. I'm more moderate. I think the Fed's out of control but leaving nothing in its place may be equally dangerous.
Besides, Virgil you usually have better reading comprehension! I said I liked some of Ron Paul's ideas. I doubt there's any candidate unless I ran myself whose ideas I'd totally agree with. I'd probably pick Hillary if she were to run as she'd be a better option than most IMO. Never fully agreed with any President's policies, I usually try to vote for the one I think will do the most good overall and the least damage IMO.

I am going to have to disagree with you again Ma'am but Mrs Clinton and Dr. Paul are world's apart and not even in the same hemisphere....She is a moderate Democrat and he is a Libertarian disguised as a Republican...
But you bring to mind a thought though about Mrs Clinton and Dr Paul having a debate over their policies... I think she would eat his lunch and then kick his butt figuratively of course

Fair enough. But now I'm curious as to your political views.
If you were to pick three of Rep. Paul's policies that you like most (out of foreign policy, healthcare, unemployment, border protection, state vs. federal rights, Guantanamo Bay, NAFTA, economic policy, homeland security, the environment, education, housing, race relations, civil rights, etc., etc.) and three of Sec. Clinton's policies that you like most, what would they be?
You've already mentioned one is Rep. Paul's mandate to end the Fed and replace it with a nationalized central bank.

I think Hillary has already done enough damage with her tantrums on airforce one. Ex-secret service members say that she is pshyco lol(probably why Bill gets it elsewhere). The good thing about it though is that if we need her to press the nuke button we just have to get her ticked off about something.

Again Ron Paul has nowhere to go but down after a few more republican debates because his ideas are not only scary but weird..Nobody wants a "Flake" in our White House, they want strength to power and not weakness to isolation....IMHO
That is why the RNC says NO to Ron Paul..but thanks him for his many years in congress representing Texas but time for a younger and better qualified republican candidate i.e., Mitt Romney or Rick Perry..

Virgil, Did PI just call you Ma'am?! Amazingly I am a moderate Democrat who thinks some Libertarian views make sense. Not sure I want to take the time to do your exercise Virgil. I disagreed with NAFTA and think we should do more to protect jobs in this country including beefed up border patrol. I'm pro-environment and believe in a safety net but all things in moderation. Our current safety net is mostly administered by the states and therefore has many loopholes plus often encourages immediate spending of assets to stay on the programs. I'd love to rework how the programs work so it encourages people to work but doesn't throw those enduring unfortunate circumstances under the bus. Not pro-gun, but do understand and empathize with the libertarian views on gun ownership and an armed citizenry.

Virgil, Did PI just call you Ma'am?! No Ma'am under Virgil's name is the Male symbol and we went down this road a few nights ago Re Male and Female members here ..but nice try But hey don't despair Ron Paul may still run as a Libertarian and Donald Trump may run as an independent so you will have two choices to make one from column A ..Paul or one from column B ..Trump and good luck with that you will need lots of it

I read the wicki on Paul, after seeing his name brought up here so much, admitted , knew little about him, and yes I understand the objection of some on wicki's, but for me they do give a quick summation of and I feel mostly correct discussions and explanations. I am not writing thesis here, though admit over wordy posts, [sigh], so suggest for any not sure of the man, give a gander, very complete..and as one said, to me, over all, some good ideas but over all, not my cup of tea and yes, scary , especially as a POTUS. The reason I feel that way, I feel he would be very pro active on many of his beliefs, not keeping them low on the totem pole of enacting and presenting as policy. Very scary is a good apt term. IMHO of course.

"Hey kid go dream big but don't act out on them" just to funny. I also believe that Obama was a scary president and I was right. Inexperience is a horrible thing when try to fix a once well-oiled machine. New and young ideas are great, but they should be support role not one of power. Rarely would you ever see an engineer that just graduated from school running the project to build a new space shuttle. Obama wasn't scary he was nightmarish.

Hey reasonfreedom we agree ....or else you have been reading my criticisms of Obama...??
I also like your comparisons with the Shuttle...to Obama trying to be a president because maybe the job was just too much for him and his staff and advisers just could not work with him thus all the resignations during the past year if you happened to notice

"...a well-oiled machine"? LOL! EXXON/Mobil spends far more on lobbyists and Special Interest advocacy and Legislation than it spends on Federal taxes. And all the costs of subverting the "well-oiled machine" are passed on to the consumer! Randian Tyranny at its finest!

Ron Paul is actually quite nice, but I am guessing you mean his political view when using the word scary. If you would prefer I could use Bush or Reagan next time for my example, I just thought that since it looks like Obama is running again that I would be current.

Some of his beliefs if kept personal I could go along with him, feeling such are just personal, practiced in his OWN way of living, but my fear is he trying to impose on me..even for the best of reasons in his mind..

You're going to have to sit down and work it out at some point if you want to cast your vote for the right candidate. Up and at 'em.

Hello all my name is James Dee Shinn, I'm on this post because my name is on the list in your poll, it comes up when I google my name, I'm a candidate for President of the United States running as an Independent because I'm a Scientist not a politician, I designed the Interceptor Missile Shield for the US and the Arrow Missile Shield for the Israelis, for 22 years in a row lawyers have been in charge of our country, and we are now on the verge of world wide economic collaspe, I feel it is time for the Intelligent ones to lead the nation, and not the greedy ones, I'm currently in the process of hiring a campaign manager as I write this note, stay tuned folks this could get very interesting. Oh, good heavens. I am hardly an English professor, but I surely think that a presidential candidate ought to be able to write a coherent (read NON run-on) sentence.

Mr. Shinn is simply indulging in some lexical symbolism, my dear Moon. He's establishing that he'll handle the job from start to finish. Expect that to drop sharply as the Republican field narrows.

Virgil, when I vote in the election there will sadly be only two choices with a real shot of winning. No need to do so much work. I'd probably be happier just doing this -> For the registered Republicans, however, now is a great time to get involved and see if you can get the candidate you want become the Republican candidate of choice.

Virgil, I didn't know you were a poet!! Um, how about "none of the above" for a voting option. By the way, I've heard some rumbling about Hillary possibly being on the ticket too, so I'd like to wager that Ms. Clinton might be reappearing soon.

Looks like Obama has about as many votes as the prominent polls show- - - - 29%
I have to ask, , , , Is that enough to carry the presidency?

Looks like Obama has about as many votes as the prominent polls show- - - - 29% I have to ask, , , , Is that enough to carry the presidency? If the other 61% gets split between various other aspirants... it could be. And if a significant segment of those polled fail to make it to the Voting booths at the proper time, it will affect the outcome as well. All the polling and surveys are just an exercise... because the only valid poll occurs on Election Day.

And even that's assuming the electronic polling stations aren't rigged.
