oh no, not if I can help it. I had several RFPs come in for great opportunities and applied. Thus the interviews. I'm also training a new VA and getting work done for my primary client who will soon be a former client (can't make payroll, doesn't want to work the business and then goes on vacation making the rest of the team deal with it).

SRUBY: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE SCRAPBOOK MATERIAL. IT IS GETTING GOOD USE. I'VE BEEN COVERING COMPOSITION NOTEBOOKS TO MAKE PERSONAL JOURNALS FOR ALL OF MY TABLE LEADERS AND MENTOR MOMS PLUS, I AM MAKING ONE AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR MY DD FRIEND! THANK YOU THANK YOU! TV Shows: I actually only watch the reruns of most shows. My evening are taken up with life and I do not have DVR. I love Bones, Cold Case and my recent obsession is Criminal Minds! Just for balance I watch How I Met Your Mother Last season the only show DH and I watched faithfully and new was Parenthood. I hope we get to catch it again (it is coming back right?) as it comes on late enough to have all the kids in bed but not passed our bed time. Super Busy and in a bit of trouble since DH specifically told me to put money away more than usual amount from last check because this check is going to be short and well I didn't I will know the damage on Monday and we might be forced to go back to pasta and rice and beans for dinner. We really shouldn't have money talks when I am sleep deprived nor should we have a surplus when I am sleep deprived because I tend to just buy things here and there. Yikes!?

Update: 11 NS days and 3 CS days Hope all are doing well. I am looking forward to sleeping a little later tomorrow. My body is beginning to adjust to school routine again. I am so glad I did not allow myself to get into the habit of sleeping late during the summer. Just having to get up less than an hour earlier then my summer wake up time is hard enough.

14 NSD/CSD, 7 EOD Tonight was a spend, but it was worth it. Had a skate maintenance meeting at one of my teammates' houses (guest star owned her own skate shop) and we all ended up buying new gear. It was kind of like a Tupperware party, but for roller derby Got some lime green laces and bearing oil and a ratchet tool for $10. Tomorrow's practice is going to run me $4... but next month we're going to monthly dues vs. weekly dues, so that should cut down on my SDs. Need to work on the EODs, though...

Been trying to post all day, but every time I try to type up a short update of my life it gets long winded. So here's the cliff-notes version. Tuesday I got stood up for a 2nd date. He had 3+ chances to set up and keep a second date with me and couldn't manage it, so adios Mr. No Show. Instead I spend most of the afternoon and evening parked on my sister's couch watching season 2 of True Blood. Which if you've never heard of it can accurately be described as Twilight series meets "adult" movie... kinda dirty but very addicting. Fast forward to Wednesday. I'm on the dating site I use typing a adios email to Mr. No Show when I get a chat request from someone else. (great feature of this site is that I can accept or decline chat requests on a person by person basis) Anywhosits, he turns out to be at the upper end of my dating "comfort zone" but is otherwise a good potential match for me. So we chat and then move to text messages and arrange to meet next Wednesday. Woo hoo. Yesterday I'm continuing to text back and forth with the new guy, and I ended up being sent home from work at noon due to low sales. He happened to be working at the coast yesterday and spur of the moment invited me to drive over and have dinner with him. It's about an hour drive from here to the coast, and about 1 hr 20 minutes total to where he suggested we meet up. I thought about it for about a minute and decided, what the heck? It's a beautiful day, I haven't been to the beach all summer, and even if he turns out to be a creep I can ditch him and still have some fun. So he's not a creep. In fact, he's probably the most well-mannered (ok, that sounds weird, but he was a total gentleman and very polite) and nicest guys I've ever been on a date with. He took me to a VERY nice (read: expensive for our area) restaurant and didn't bat an eye at spending $50-$60 for our meal. He even went on a walk on the beach with me even though he was wearing nice dress shoes. Now as long as he doesn't disappear off the face of the planet, he might just be a keeper. ;D And look, even though I tried not to, I still wrote a book. Please excuse my twitterpated state.

reenee- YAY! All paws crossed!
I called a lawyer I know about situation with nieces. She told me that b/c DB has no felony record, the court would assign him custody first, even though the daughters have said they would rather live with me. Ok. From one not so fit parent to the other... the system hasn't changed, it's re-formatted. Goin back and counting up my NS/CS/S beginning of this week- but it looks pretty good. Also have lost close to $200 in food from upright at DGMs- apparently the power was cut while electrical was being done in that room. So unless the wiring can be fixed and there is no permanent damage to the freezer- everything has to live here now- which means mor emoney in groceries...

Mizbear - I meant to mention this earlier, but no matter what happens with your nieces, you won't be forced to take custody of them. I've been reading a lot about the foster care system lately because it's one of my random interests. Anyway, in the event that they're taken from their mother, the social workers will likely put them into a temporary living situation until they can determine the best course of action. If your brother has adequate housing and means to support them, yes, they'd probably be sent to him. If not, there are temporary foster homes that provide a safe place for children to stay while a better solution can be found. While the preference is always to keep children with their biological family if at all possible, they ask family members to step up if they're able, they don't just drop the kids on your doorstep. Especially considering that your home doesn't have a separate bedroom for the girls to stay in. My guess is that since there's no physical abuse going on, the state would try to provide resources to the girls where they're at rather than taking them out of the home.

Okay, I've only got a few minutes because after the week I had, I'm treating myself to a massage today ;D Having so much family here was so draining, I would really rather not do that again for a long, long time. Especially since my work schedule is finally getting on track only to get all messed up with family. Really getting ready for Miami and the conference. My business cards arrived and they are bea-ut-i-ful. Also will have 10 posts up on my blog by the time I arrive in Florida so that I can network more effectively. All good things happening. Also a friend of mine is going to attend and probably chill with me in Key West after the conference ends. I'm staying there for 3 nights, crashing at the beach and getting a "real" vacation. And despite being super tired last night night I didn't fall asleep until 4am and then got trampled/licked/attacked by the dogs starting at 7am. I need a massage and then

AZMom - did you see that Pioneer Woman is starting her own show on Food Network? Thought it might be a show you would be interested in catching.
Update: I don't have my exact numbers they are at work, but I've been tracking.
School started this week for Lil' Smokey (2 days late due to thunderstorms & power outages) so we're getting back into the school time routine. And work has been crazy - I was there 2 1/2 hours extra last night getting an amended demand for arbitration filed with the AAA.
Just realized this week that R2B2 is coming for a visit in 11 weeks - there are a lot of things I need to organize/rearrange before then. Guess I should start a list of chores and get to marking them off 1 by 1.
Sharing - has anyone talked to Sharing lately? I miss her insight and hope that she returns to our crazy little family!

apparently it was allergies, although I have no idea to what. So I'm armed with Afrin (yuck), sudafed (yay for two allergy meds... can I OD on antihistamines?) and a neti pot (yuck again). I felt a bit better for a few hours but back to feeling like crud and can't take anything for three more hours. Ah well. Thanks again for your insight, shoulda listened to you yesterday! Although I wouldn't have known to take ANOTHER allergy med, but the doc said it was fine.
Hope you all are having a good weekend!

reenee- I trust your research, but around here, it doesn't work like that- no matter what the rules say. I remember finding out after I got out of foster care that I shouldn't have gone to my second foster home for more than overnight because I had to sleep on the couch. And they still haven't fixed the system. If anything, it's gotten worse.

redwagon - I use the nasal rinse squeeze bottle version of the neti pot, and I know it's kind of gross for some people. Have you tried using it in the shower? That seems to help the gross out factor for some people I've talked to. Me, I'm just happy to have something non-medicated I can use to un-clog long enough to get to sleep. mizbear - I know the system is broken in too many areas. I didn't find out until I was an adult that some of my discussions with school counselors or clergy should have resulted in social services pulling me out of my parent's house PDQ. Just remember that no matter what pressure or guilt trip they give you, there are always other options.

I love my neti pot- and agree- it is easier to use in the shower! Well, the frezer at DGMs isn't broke- it took me 2 minutes of checking an outlet and my uncle 15 minutes of wiring work to fix it. We will still have to replace all of the food (DGM has said she will replace my food), but it was because of the way a wire ran- when uncle cut a wire to rewire an old light so that it is now an outlet, he unknowingly cut the wire to the outlet- funny wiring in old house. Uncle fixed wire and freezer works again! YAY! Trying to avoid father today.

Still at 1 NSD. I did track last week, but didn't do so hot on the not spending thing. So I'm going to carry over my goal from last week to get 2 NSD this week.

Gin - thanks! ;D I got a little worried that he was going to turn into another Mr. No Show when I didn't hear from him at all yesterday or Friday afternoon/evening. I panic sometimes thinking that maybe the guy didn't like me or have as much fun as I thought we did. But we touched base today. Sometimes I feel like there should be a special ed class for daters like me... I didn't do any of the "normal" high school/college/young adult dating so I don't always know how to read situations. Speaking of dating, after the last disaster of a relationship (with a guy who needed a mommy more than he needed a girlfriend) I added this whole paragraph about what I'm looking for in a guy. I know that those kinds of things can turn ugly, so rather than talking about what I DON'T want, I focused on the traits I DO want. Mr. New Guy brought it up on our date and said that it was one of the most refreshing, honest, and positive things he'd seen a woman post... and he was impressed that I was willing to lay my standards right out there. He was so impressed that he suggested it to a female friend (platonic) who is also on the site. I was a little gobsmacked that it would make that much of an impression on anyone.

ahhh, what a quiet, lovely quiet weekend! Family all left on Friday (finally) and I proceeded to crash with a nap. I never nap btw. Then I couldn't fall asleep until 4am Saturday so I woke up pretty confused. I made a trip to the massage therapist, grocery shopping then to see sbcalimom & do a DVD swap I'm also in the middle of cleaning up my kitchen counters (ants again), cooking, painting door, rearranging furniture, cleaning out my car and trying to pull mushrooms in the backyard. Very busy weekend. Today I spent to get some essentials as I am making homemade cleaners and needed a few things. I'm going to chill at home the rest of the evening though. The backyard mushrooms are really creeping me out, they're round and hard and hide under the grass like little golf balls. Now that I'm looking I find 2-3 every morning. Ick. I do need to do a more thorough job of weeding, sorting out the tiny rocks and fertilizing the lawn but I hate going out and getting dirty and sweaty. Basically I'm a wimp. Now that I have a few weeks of quiet ahead of me I hope to get in more NSD and finish up some chores around the house. Wilson should get his stitches out by Friday - he's mostly back to normal running around and playing but I keep a closer eye on him. I might keep him in the crate at night for awhile longer, it's nice to have more of the bed to me reenee- yay on the good guy! interviews - I heard back from the first interview and they're going on vacation (of course) so I'm going to prepare something to send them when they return. I have scheduled another interview with a client I would really like to work with for the end of the month. And sent off responses to two more RFPs through my network! I'm really glad I can keep looking and have options so I can keep freelancing. The thought of going out interviewing in suits and to stuffy offices is enough to make me redouble my efforts.

Moms and Elders of the board - I believe I have an ear infection. I don't really care to go into the doctor's office right now as I haven't taken the time to find a doctor who doesn't think I'm nuts every time I have a theory about what's wrong with MY body . Anywho, I know tons about treating sinus infections at home, but almost nothing about ear infections. Suggestions? Shopping - cracked today when I had to run to the bathroom to hitch up my saggy, worn out, two year old underwear so I went shopping after work. Got 10 pairs of undies and a new pair of work pants for $32.

Morning all -- I successfully unjammed my garbage disposal yesterday. I had a mini crisis on Thursday morning, I left my wallet in Costco on Wed evening. Yikes. Yikes again. Costco called me at 9:21 am on Thursday to tell me they had it. Thursday morning after I realized my wallet wasn't in my purse/house nor car. I had a mild panic attack. Shortly thereafter, I calmed down and started being thankful that I a minimalist when it comes to credit cards and other items in my wallet. Whew all is well.
Reenee -- I'm not a mom, but ear infections are nothing to take lightly. What about going to the Minute Clinic. If you have fluid in your ear, you need a decongestant. Mucinex D, I think, is the best decongestant for me, by far. If you already take Mucinex, take a different decongestant. The other thing, is to go back to the beach on your day off. If you swim, the salt water is the best thing for you. If you don't, you can still stick your head in the water. The air around salt water does wonders for congestion in the ears and nose.
start -- nothing like peace and quiet in one's home.

Reenee - I hear you. I never dated. Blue_wagon is my only boyfriend, and mostly we just hung around dorm rooms for a while lol. Luckily it stuck. I wish you the best of luck with this new guy - he sounds good so far! Also, ear infections usually require antibiotics, in my experience. I had them all the time as a kid.
startsmart - what is RFP?
Had a good weekend. Engagement party on Saturday afternoon, then blue and I hit up homegoods and got two new endtables and a new lamp for $250. and halloween-themed kitchen towels. Our old end tables and lamp didn't match the rest of the room at ALL but were handmedowns and did a fine job for two years. My parents are having a tag sale in September so it's the perfect opportunity to get rid of them at long last, especially since we found perfect replacements cheap. Then yesterday was cleaning, which the house needed. Felt very accomplished by the end of the day!

Red - the DuH was not a typo, it was from hanging out on Babycenter for too long. LOL. We got going around 8 and got up there at 2, so it wasn't too bad. I was just completely spent by 9pm because I got up too early. Sorry, I just skimmed. This week is going to be crazy at work. Grandma's funeral was nice. The weekend was nice. It was still very surreal that we were there for her funeral and not her birthday party. We went through a few things at the farm and all of us kids too some things home. I took one of the Snoopy fishing poles that I used as a little girl. Hopefully, DH will be able to fix it and he and DS can go fishing. DH was given a fishing pole from my Grandpa on the other side of the family and so he wants to take that fishing pole and give DS the Snoopy pole and go fishing. Happy no spending...I am completely off the wagon and lost. Being gone 2 weekends in a row just completely through me off my game and we are already at budget on Groceries. And it is only the 22. Crap what are we going to eat for the next 10 days.

Quick update: 5 NEO, 4 NSD, and 3 MOANs. There is no way I am going to make my goal, but I am going to keep tracking and set more realistic goals for next month.

16 NSD/CSD, 7 EOD. Brought my lunch today and am going to eat it outside with a book If I'm good for the rest of the day, I'll be at 17 NSD/CSD. I forget my goal, 25 I think? Bad news is I'm already $13 over our new grocery budget ($350). We've got a pretty good stockpile going and I should be able to keep this weekend's grocery trip <$25, so I'll end up having spent a little under $400. More than I wanted, but still tons better than I was doing a few months ago. (I got on Mint.com this weekend and was looking at my historic grocery spending... last November - Jan I was averaging $700 a month ( ), then got down to $500 a month, then a few months around $400, then back up to $500 last month.) I've been doing really well on groceries - they only account for $200 or so of this month's spending. It's the booze and eating out that's killing my budget! Our "extras" budget is $170/month, and I'm up to $150 (and still have $40 "untracked" cash in my wallet). Normally I've completely blown this budget by mid-month, so I'm pretty happy with that. Major closet clean/purge yesterday... dropped off about 4 Hefty bags' worth of clothes at Goodwill, it felt good to clear so much out. Our old house had tiny closets, which kind of forced me to downsize every so often... I will never complain about our current house's size, but it does lend itself to the accumulation of extra stuff! Also discovered some clothes I thought were long gone. Sadly no surprise $20 bills in any old purses!

Only 1 NS this weekend. Ended up eating out both Friday and Saturday. We've decided to replace our stove and dishwasher so that they match the fridge before we put the house back on the market. And Saturday evening we went looking. Decided to get them from Lowe's and ordered $200 in GC from our CC rewards once that comes we'll go order them. We aren't getting anything fancy, just newer white appliances so they all match.

sapphire – Thank you for the advice! It takes a special breed to swim at the beach in Oregon, but I'll definitely make a trip over and at least sit on the beach. We don't have anything like Minute Clinic around here.
symptoms - So I think it's an ear infection, but I haven't had one in so long since I've had one I'm not sure. One of my ears feels like I can never get it popped, and if I do, I gets that pressurized feeling again within a minute. My jaw on that side also hurts. That side of my head is just overall kind of achy. Why couldn't I have gotten a sinus infection? I know how to deal with THAT.

red- an RFP is a request for proposal. The network I'm in accepts RFPs from business owners and then if I'm interested I apply. Getting pretty good responses so far and the only one I didn't submit an application to was a business helping Muslim men recover from p*rn addictions I figure I get enough spam already, why encourage more? But RFPs are qualified leads and I get a good look at the business, the pay structure and the skills necessary before hitting reply. And because I'm a resume writing nerd I can respond quickly too. Today: team meeting, calls with clients, working on a LOT of business development for my company and then hopefully finishing the new fridge clean out. Last night I realized my old fridge door wouldn't close, nothing was in the way except the seal was busted up and holding the door open. Gotta make sure nothing in there spoiled and fix it asap.

reenee: treat it like a sinus infection. Ear infections generally come from clogged sinuses. Get on your decongestants and take anti-inflammatories. If it really starts hurting, lie on your side with the hurting ear up and put a hot compress (hot, wet heat works best) right over the ear.
If, after treating it like a sinus infection for a few days, the pain and pressure don't go down, find a US Health Works or other walk in clinic. MDs don't prescribe antibiotics for ear infections the way they used to (which is a good thing), but if you have a history of ear problems, don't be afraid to force the issue. My DH's eardrum burst (again) just a winter or two ago, so it can happen to an adult.
Another trick is to clean your ears.(Sorry if this is gross to people.) Use a cue tip. A lot of ear pain can come from a wax buildup gone out of control. I generally clean my ears after a shower (that hot wet heat to loosen everything up). It will hurt, at least a little bit while the cue tip is in there, but in general provides at least some long term relief.
