Final tally - 23 NSD/CDS, 11 EOD.
I think I have come to the conclusion that the lunches out with boss/coworkers are going to continue, so I need to just adjust our grocery budget accordingly. I'm getting better at saving money at the grocery store, so I'm hopeful I can keep the groceries to about $200/month and can then have 8-10 $10 lunches out and not go over budget.
I guess I survived August fairly unscathed... paid DH's tuition/books, the quarterly SL payment, and put $850 in heating fuel into our tank and we're still treading water. This was a 3-paycheck month, though... need to buckle down even more in September!

18 NS, 2 CS, 21 NEO
I made it on the NS front. But missed by one on the NEO, but since DH started back to work this month, I'm proud that we didn't cave and eat out more. 2 years ago in August I think we had spent $700 on eating out, this month it was $200. So we are getting better.
I'm totally beat today and it is completely my fault. After mini-D's gym class we went to the library and I picked up a couple new books. After mini-D and DH went to bed I started reading and next thing I know it is 2am and mini-D is up after having a dream that one of our dogs ran away with some wolves. It took awhile to get him calmed down and I was still wide awake, it was almost 4am when I finally fell asleep, then DH got up at 5:15 and my alarm went off at 6:30.
Tonight will be a spend and an EO. We going on a hardhat tour of the history museum. They are renovating the 100+ year old mansion that it is housed in and tonight it is open to the public. It is something DH will definitely enjoy after that we will grab a bite to eat somewhere. I've got a buy one ticket get one free coupon for the tour.
Midwestern- Yes sometimes you just have to budget for the expenses that you can't avoid.
Pointy- Way to go meeting your goals.
SES- An extra $250 in your budget that is great. I know you keep your budget tight, so that is a big windfall.
SBCali- Welcome back.
Reenee- Definitely would be interested in seeing the henna tattoo. I think that is the only body art I'd consider since it isn't permanent.
Trying hard to avoid grabbing a coke and a scone from the kitchen. I've had my breakfast. I'm thinking I may have a glass of OJ to help my brain start firing normally.

money - Most of the meat went to blue's sister on Monday so it was still well frozen. All that is left is ice cream that was still cold but not frozen (more like a milkshake), and frozen veggies that were still very cold. Everything else I tossed. Gotta do the fridge cleanout tonight. Joy. Tossed some stuff along the way but there will be some fun surprises, I'm sure. I wouldn't be able to survive not using my freezer like you do! I'm always buying meat in bulk.
But we DO have power again! Came home last night to see the tv flickering upstairs (it was on when power went out). Yay!
Even though power is back I told by BFF and her fiance not to come this weekend. I'm still too stressed and wound up from everything, we need to finish cutting down the tree, and I need to play catchup on my freelancing since I couldn't do it all week. I think she'll understand, since she's the one that mentioned rescheduling first. I tried to be strong and say no it's fine, but I'm just not in an entertaining mentality this week.
reenee - I like that motto! And I too need to make sauce with all the tomatoes from our garden (the ones that survived Irene, that is)
dakota - that's quite an improvement on the eating out budget! way to go! I need to work on bringing ours back down after this month.
See you on the September thread!

Finally Tally: 7 NSD, 4 CSD
Well that's pathetic. But I have to remember that my Dad came to town (so I bought a few things so we could do house repairs), then unexpectedly my aunt and cousins came for a week (and I bought some food for meals with them) then my Mom came for the fair (and I treated her to ice cream) and finally Wilson ran into a stupid bolt and tore open the skin on his thigh (and I spent $400 getting him fixed up again).
Not to mention I am no longer working for my main source of income and had a few celebratory/sad tacos....
I need to review my calendar for the month and make my new goals. First though I'm picking up my cash for the first 2 week ($40) and meeting a client for coffee. Then, because my whole day got out of whack, I might be picking up some clothes I need for the trip to Florida before visiting sbcalimom ;D

Final August Numbers:
23/25 CS 27/20 NEO
muttley - I liked the comment about your little man that he was dancing before he walked. Toddlers that do that .. just stand in one place and their entire bodies heave and jerk to the music - well, they just make me laugh.
reenee - Good for you on the scholarship offer!
SES - Thanks for that glimpse of life with your kitties - it seems too long since I have read any Onyx and Calleigh stories.
dakota - Congrats on the weight loss. If I offered to pay you a monthly retainer fee would you lose some of mine for me???
azmom - Regarding your blog give away, my recommendation would be to keep it easy and generic (until such time as you have your own line of housewares of course ). The VISA gift card would be my first choice rather than something specific like Starbucks.
sbcalimom - So good to see you again!
spruby - I really like your idea of points for eating out with the unhealthiest taking the biggest hit. I would love to hear at the end of September how that worked for you.
dakota (2) - Oh, I have done that more times than I care to count or admit to. I should know better than to start reading a new book after 9:00 pm. I have stumbled to work on less than three hours of sleep because I just HAD to read "one more chapter".
Ah well, there are worse things I could be addicted to.
redwagon - Good to hear you have power again. And I think you made the right decision in rescheduling your friend's visit. You want to be in a more relaxed frame of mind.
