But if you travel to Boston in the winter you might fall out of love with the Hub City...driving in ice and snow with temps hovering below freezing can lead to "Road Rage" 24/7 but if you go to Boston in the fall it is awesome. Take the Freedom Trail to see how life was when our nation was founded, and put Fenway Park on your itinerary..

I haven't been to a lot of cities either. However, I really loved Washington, DC. It is a place where you can walk for hours and never run out of things to do. The public transportation system seems safe and reliable and you can get most places without having to use a car. I went in the fall and really enjoyed the changing of the leaves (I live in FL so that is something I don't get). Plus I learned a lot. The downside was the amount of homeless people - in the capital of the greatest country on earth, it really shows that we don't take care of our own people well enough.

I loved the Freedom Trail in the short time we were there! My brother come down from NH for a day, and he, DD1 and I spent a Sunday afternoon on the trail!

DD1 has been to DC several times, and said the same thing. She said everything to do there (museums and historical sites ) are free. Suz...I am in FL too, and I really miss autumn which is my favorite time of year. It does occur here, just at the wrong time of year, and lacks the brilliance of foliage up north. I will say that it seems like colors this year are a lot brighter than in previous seasons, and I have been in FL for 20 years. (UGH! Now that comment made me feel old!)

Cheesy, just pretend you arrived in Florida at the age of three. There. Does that make you feel better?
ETA: Don't know as I have a favorite in the US, but in the world...Heidelburg, hands down.

I have to say Seattle is a very nice city. A week was not enough time to see and enjoy everything.

I've only been to a handful. I like to visit, but would NEVER (I know, never say never) want to live in one.

I have visited lots of cities but my favorites for being a tourist are:
DC New York City Madrid New Orleans I call these my favorite "go-back too" cities.
But you couldn't pay me enough to leave my cardboard box to live in either of them.
Side note: Plan to get to Savannah and Charleston this year.

I love Boston.....it's a wonderful city to visit as a tourist, but a lousy one to try to live in. I lived there for 5 years, but went back as a tourist after I moved away and looked at it in a totally different perspective.
DC is a great city to be a tourist in. I don't think you can ever get tired of the museums.

New Orleans if you don't have a curfew.

Boston without a doubt. With the north and south shores in close proximity, along with Cape Cod less than an hour or so away, you cannot beat it.

Well, if we're talking cities to visit, not live in, my favorites are San Antonio, NYC, Washington, DC, Fort Worth, San Diego, and Chicago. There are lots more cities that I like to visit, but aren't necessarily my favorites.

My favorite tourist cities are Las Vegas, San Francisco, New Orleans, and DC. I could see myself living in San Francisco, maybe New Orleans. No way on DC, and LV is a no go for Loop.

I've lived in Las Vegas as well as San Francisco. But my favorite city/area? The central California coast: Monterey + Carmel.

I have not been to a lot of cities in my life, but recently was in Boston to move my daughter there in August, and I totally fell in love with Boston! may I ask which school? I went to Northeastern, after having grown up about half an hour west of the city. I looked at schools all over hell and creation, and didn't feel 'home' until I took a tour of that campus. edit: forgot to add my favorites! on the east coast, Boston hands down. you're no more than an hour or two from the ocean, mountains, countryside, and 5 other states if you need to go. it's one of the oldest cities in the country, and most of that history is still around to explore. outside of the east coast, I'd have to go with New Orleans. another city rich with history, and just such a cool vibe. I don't think I'd ever go during Mardi Gras again, but I just couldn't turn down a trip during the Super Bowl. the icing was that my Patriots not only made it to the SB, but beat the Rams while they were at it!

Boston, though New York City is a close second. My husband and I took his two late teen sons to Boston in October 2009. We had a fantastic time.

Let's see; Born in Napa, grew up in San Diego. Still like San Diego but it's very, very different than it was nearly (gulp!) 50 years ago. A LOT more traffic but it's also a lot more interesting than the B grade Navy town when I was younger. 3 years in Washington D.C. area. Interesting but didn't like living there. 14 years in the SF Bay Area. Loved it and will move back for a least a while. Love visiting Boston; have visited mostly around Thanksgiving so have been around during some serious snow storms. Would NEVER drive and love the transportation system and walking around. Have visited New Orleans and New York. Very interesting but can't see myself living there. Portland OR-another wonderful walking city. Definitely could live there for a while. And could live in Juneau Alaska part-time. One of the prettiest capital cities in the US! Really want to see Chicago (besides the airport!). I keep hearing about how wonderful the architecture is. Also want to see Seattle.

I love all the love for Boston! I would say Boston's up there for me (since I'm from this area) but other cities I've visited and loved are Portland OR, Tucson AZ, ooooh and Salt Lake City is just gorgeous. We spent 3 days in San Diego last spring and loved it there too!

I love Savannah, DC, Key West, New Orleans. I like things with history and character. San Antonio was pretty cool too. But hands down, if I could be anywhere right now, it'd be Hanalei, on the island of Kauai.
