I kind of planned to make this a lean Christmas regardless. We have so many people to buy for, so we don't usually get extravagant with gifts. And chances are, I won't buy it if it isn't on sale lol. But, you are right...I will plan the rest of the year out like we aren't getting it, just in case

Shop -- what Sam says!!!!
Great news! With your vision, are there any adaptive things you can get to help ease your eyestrain? There are probably things to help you out reading small numbers. Can you mix up the day alternating between computer work and other work?
Anyway, I am positively thrilled for you!
Sam, you need to change your ticker!

Serious- I have to continually use eye drops which helps decrease strain from my severe dry eye condition. I also use reading glasses along with my contacts, but wearing glasses actually throws off my vision for reasons that are too complex to explain. When I'm home, I actually go around the house with no contacts or glasses and my eye strain is much less, and even though I can see less clear, it is better overall at the end of the day. The work I will be doing is not sitting behind a computer all day long, I will be working in the parts shelves stocking parts, doing inventory, puling orders, etc. so I'm hoping getting some time away from the computer will help my eyes a bit. If it gets to be too much, I'll find a different job. But I hope it will work out.

First day of work was today and it went well. The day went quickly, my Dad is thrilled that I am back working there, the guys I work with in the Parts Dept are nice (I've known 2 of them for most of my life), the female I was concerned with not getting along with had no idea that I was coming to work there b/c she was out sick last couple days last week so she found out this morning when I came in. Dad spoke with her when he got there & he said she was great about it. I hope it works out well. My eyes, legs & feet are very tired, I am literally on my feet the entire day, the only time I sit is bathroom breaks!! lol! I am tired b/c I was so nervous last night that I could not fall asleep until about 2am & my alarm went off at 5:30. Hopefully I will sleep well tonight.
Also in good news, a new girl joined my church a couple weekends ago & I have spoken with her the past 2 weeks. Well, this Sunday was our monthly Pancake Breakfast & she & I sat together and talked for almost an hour! We were the last ones to leave, other than the clean up crew, and she & I may get together for lunch one Saturday in a few weekends. I know it sounds silly, but I have no friends and to find someone out of the blue who I just introduced myself to b/c I didn't want her to feel unwelcome (like I did when I arrived in this town) and who I seem to have things in common with & get along with.... that stuff just does NOT happen to me. I am a fairly shy person in real life, I honestly cant believe that I instigated a conversation with a total stranger. I really just didn't want her to feel like an outcast like I did, & sometimes still do here. It just felt so good to have a real conversation with someone who wasnt intorduced to me by my DH, pre-approved by him, or has yet to be criticized by him. He is terrible about my friends, or was when I had them. I told him about her & how I was so happy to have found a friend, he knows how I hate him ripping apart the girls I befriend. I then told him that she & I were going to meet up for lunch one of these weekends, and he said that it was great.
And another lady in my church, who just happens to be the lady who was my next door neighbor when I was a little girl in a completely different town almost an hour away, has agreed to teach me how to knit! It is rather a small world that we just happen to live in the same tiny town when I grew up next door to her 30 years ago. The big set of knitting needles I found in eBay for $20 including shipping came in the mail today, so I am going to go out to get some cheap yarn to practice with in the next week or so. I have to buy a couple pair of reading glasses for work first though, and another pair of jeans and some new insoles for my work boots that are almost 10yrs old. My knees & hips are killing me from standing all day in those boots. I'm not going to be able to walk in a couple more days!
OK, enough rambling for one day! I have to get back to working on dinner!

Good for you for stepping outside of your comfort zone and making a connection that you may have otherwise missed out on! I am inspired to try this myself!

WIRR consolidated thread to launch in the next couple of weeks Within the next couple of weeks, I will be locking the threads for the individual regions and going live with the consolidated threads. There will be two new threads: one for discussion, posting updates, asking questions, etc.; and a separate thread where the captains will be posting the smiley updates. The captains for the consolidated boards are: Minnesotagirl7, jdnstl, LaramiK, speechchick71, urdoingit, and idlechatter. Please be patient with us for the first few weeks after we launch the new threads. Let us know if we miss anything or if you have suggestions for improvement. While it’s a bit of a bummer that our numbers have dropped and we’re going back to being one big happy WIRR family, this is also a great opportunity to get to know other racers, learn new tips & tricks, and maybe even get a new perspective on your race. Happy racing everyone!

Serious this time [2]: 10/24/14 $4,261 (12/9/2012 $11,021 MPT 266)
As I've mentioned before, Race #2 is made up of two credit card balances. I am now within $150 of paying off one of the two credit cards. Dummm da dum dum -- soon to be down to one credit card in this race!
There are many races yet to go. So I am not exactly breaking out the champagne. However, I do feel it's important to celebrate small victories!

UPDATE: 11/1/2014 $0 (7/25/2014 44395.32 MPT 334)
My mother past away suddenly last month and losing her has been very difficult. This is such a sad way to end my race. I was not here long, however I want to thank you all for your help and encouragement. I have learned so much and that knowledge will help keep us from repeating past mistakes. I wish you all the very best in your races.
