HI Ladies, sorry I continue to be MIA. My BF lives about an hr away and dating someone out of town really sucks up your time. Not necessarily the driving part, but when you are together, you want to spend all of your time together, so I get behind on things like my blog, WIR, cleaning etc. Also my work has been behind nearly this entire year, and we just keep getting further behind, I have been doing as much OT as I can.
Our rummage sale did amazing, we did $8700 in sales! (I just posted a breakdown of it on my blog today if you want to check it out!)
Next week we go on vacation to Laughlin! YEAH So excited! Flight, hotel and a show are covered 100% from comps that BF has. Gambling and food money is also covered (I won $1700 in the last month at the casino!) Should be a great trip and a chance to just be alone and destress with BF.
Hoping to eventually get the $50-$100K Lists going again, sorry for the delay. I really would like to keep doing them if I can get some time. Will be another few weeks at the minimum, this coming weekend is Laughlin and then the next weekend BF wants me to go pheasant hunting with him (lots of new things for this city mouse!
Hope everyone is well! Keep racing ladies!

Congratulations on your race CrazyLady! I wish you all the best of love & luck!
We had a major money set back this week, and just lost about $1600/mo income out of the blue. It was a part-time income & we had no clue it was coming. We are seriously screwed & can't survive on DH's income alone. There are few extras in our lives as it is (cable tv) that we can cut out. We will shut off cable & the home phone this week, even though our cell phones do not always work in the house- our home phone service sucks too, it regularly shuts off for hours at a time for no reason. Needless so say, I haven't slept much the past couple nights, until last night when I finally took some Benadryl to help me sleep. I have some debt on store cards left from school clothes shopping for the kids for school (didnt go crazy, but got very good deals on sales with the cards) which I am paying off with savings to start with a clean slate. I'm not really sure what I am going to do for a job at the moment, I'm kind of in shock still. I was gone all day yesterday for boys football practice & helping at DH's school fundraiser. Today I'm trying to muddle through finances, but I keep having panic attacks & can't think straight. I seriously don't know what to do. We can't afford this house, its nothing fancy believe me, but theres no way we could sell it either. No one is buying around here, everyone is selling & getting out of this area b/c there are no jobs. The few times I've tried talking to DH, he just says we will figure it out or he snaps at me. I understand he is scared too, but yelling at me doesn't help the situation. And I really want to yell at him & ask him if he wishes now that he would have listened to me months & months ago & helped me with budgeting & getting things under control before the shit hit the fan, like it did a few days ago.

Oh, shop, I'm so sorry! There was a time where I viewed every financial setback like this: It's not death, it's not divorce. To me those were the two worst things that could happen.
Sleep is a good thing. Benadryl is a great help. I prefer the straight benadryl to the Tylenol PM or Excedrin PM. The PM part is benadryl so why add analgesics you don't need...I buy benadryl in bulk at Sam's Club. Without sleep you just can't think straight.
Now, about making ends meet, if I were in your shoes I'd be looking to transfer every debt I had (except the house) to a 0% interest credit card, and make only the minimum payments for a while (but make sure your minimum payments won't be more than they would otherwise, because cash flow is your immediate concern. And don't touch any retirement funds you may have in an IRA, 401(k), or other employee retirement account. Prioritize. What expense is first? What's next after that? And so on.
If you want help, remember we're here, and we're pretty good listeners if you just want to vent.

Shop: Uggh on losing the $1600 income . I would focus on making sure food and shelter is covered plus transportation for DH's work. I do like serious's idea on transferring all debt minus the mtg to a 0% card. Are there any creditors you can call to tell them you are facing a financial hardship and need a couple of months without payments. I forget what your debt list looks like but maybe you may want to post it along with due dates to see if someone spots something that could be helpful. A few things that I do to help save money is. 1) have a no light night and just have candles. It might be kind of cool since Halloween is coming up and it can seem more festive. 2) Challenging yourself to make as many meals as possible on the items on hand..we do a lot of beans and rice, meatless pasta dishes, or peanut butter sandwiches to stretch the budget. 3) Make a game with the kids to find creative ways to save money. It is scary when A + B doesn't equal C. I'm hoping you find a way to make it all work out and can get a good night's sleep to keep a clear focus. Keep us posted on how you are doing and VENT all you need too. Bankergurl: Yay for fun weekend plans .

Serious & Seahorse: I'm working on my debt list now. I'm paying a couple small debts & getting them in tomorrows mail. We don't really have much that we could put on a 0% card, unfortunately its daily life essentials that we are not going to be able to pay for. We have student loans that we have to pay every month, theres nothing we can do about that- can't stop payments on them, plus DH just finished his Masters so the bill will be starting in 6mos for that loan! That's what I meant about not having many extras that we can cut out. Looks like we will be having toast, rice & water for every meal. If I have anything of value, I would sell it in a heartbeat, have a yard sale & get rid of it. But every time I have tried it, it has been more work that it was worth. And any of the things that we had that would have sold for a decent amount of money, sold at the last yard sale 2 yrs ago. There is a chance of me working for my Dad at some point in the next month or 2, but if any of you remember when I worked there before, I didn't get along with a female co-worker and she is still there, and she still is fighting that I not be able to go back to work there. She is a complete control freak, bitch & hated that I did my job better than she did, and that my Dad listened to me instead of her. I had enough of her undermining me & quit. If I were to go back there, it would only be worse, and I would be going into a job that I have never done & am not at all comfortable doing. She will make my life a living hell every day. I will be going there tomorrow to discuss it with my Dad & the man who would be my manager. I don't know when I last posted an update, I may need to restart my race. If I do, I probably should just include the mortgage at this point, although I will have to restart it again when DH's new loan starts up in 6 months. I really don't know what to do. DH refuses to talk with me, he's too busy playing video games. I think he is just ignoring the problem & letting me deal with it. His one suggestion was meal planning. That was all he said. Because every time we discuss budgeting, he throws it right back & lays it all on me & says it all has to do with my grocery shopping & lack of better meal planning. Won't give me any other help or suggestions other than that. He wont even give any meal suggestions, ideas of what to make.

I am sorry, shop if you do want some meal plans, there's several out there for Aldi/Costco for $150/25 meals. They could be done at any store but the plans are good. I hope you can find a job soon! Can you clean houses or babysit until something comes up? Sent from my SPH-L710 using proboards

Shopaholic814 (3): 9/28/2014 $17,774.38 MPT339 UPDATE | 9/28/2014 |
|
| Diff Last Post | Total Paid | % Paid | Kohl's card | $348.60 | $0.00
| $0.00
| $0.00 | $0.00
| 0% | Student Loan | $17,425.78 | $0.00
| $0.00
| $0.00 | $0.00
| 0% | TOTAL | $17,774.38 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | $0.00 | 0% |
I'm having to restart my race, I hope I did my tagline correctly. Please let me know if I need to change anything. Thanks. In 6 months or so I will have to add DHs new student loans to this as well, which will almost double this total I had considered adding our mortgage to this race, but considering we may have to move b/c of finances, I figured it was easier just to leave it out at this point in time & race it separately, later. I should have the Kohls card paid off very soon, and the other cards were paid off today. SAm- where do I find the Aldi's meal plans? I have shopped there some in the past, not regularly b/c it is about 25miles away or so and not a quick drive. I obviously will be making weekly trips there from on out. I have never considered cleaning homes before, there isn't much call for personal cleaning around here in rural farmland. I've seen 1 or 2 flyers posted at the grocery store for housekeeping services occasionally, but I don't know anyone or have heard of any but 1 person who has used those services around here in the 12 yrs I have lived around here. It is something to consider though, thanks for the idea!

Shop: I just googled $150 Aldi's meal plans and several showed up right away. "I'm that Lady" has a really good site. She has a calendar with the meals planned out and shows how much she spent at Aldi's. Plus she has a list of ingredients you need for the meals. My town is almost finished building it's first Aldi's so I'm excited to check it out. They have the opening soon sign up but no specific date but the whole outer building is finished. Growing up I lived in a rural town where jobs were hard to find. The only real options were to work at the local mini mart, at a restaurant 10 miles away, mow lawns, babysit, and some house cleaning but then there were always lots of other people wanting the same jobs. So frustrating when there isn't anything readily available. I'm sorry about the lady that works with your dad. It seems like every small town has someone like your former co-worker. They make your lives miserable and there is really nothing you can do about them except hope and pray they move away. I'm hoping a job opportunity will present itself soon .

Shop - So sorry to hear that! I agree with Serious "It's not death. It's not divorce" It might seem impossible now, but you will get through it. Because you have to. I wasn't sure if the $1600 was an income you were making? Or a side income for DH? If it was your income and you are not working at all right now then hopefully you have extra time now to brainstorm, research, plan and prioritize. There are endless tips on saving and making money available online. I know you said there isn't anywhere to trim, but like others suggested, maybe house cleaning, dog walking, lawn work (leaves are falling) or child care would be temporary options? Try to think outside the box if you can....if you can't think of something that could bring in extra money, just ask friends/family "Is there anything you have been meaning to get done and haven't" Maybe they need the garage cleaned out or pumpkins carved or someone to take their car in for an oil change and to clean it out.....IDK just tossing ideas out there. Please keep us posted! (HUGS)!!!!!

Well now that I have been divorced for almost 2 months and the house is refinanced to my name I guess it is time to restart my race. Makes me wanna cry to see all that extra work and payments gone. Oh well, all I can do is keep moving foward. I have my job, my house, my health, my friends and family and most importantly BF. Hoping if I get another chance at marriage that I have found someone that is actually there for "better or worse till death do us part" and not someone that is there only as long as they feel life is perfect. Hard, hard lessons I have learned in the last 10 months.
Race Restart!
Banker Gurl 9/30/14 $168,500.00 (9/17/07 $250,514.73)
I added $79,800 to each side (the amount I had to pay out to XH for his half of the house) of the race, so I believe that is correct. Guess I should change my name to Banker Grandma, cause that is how long I am going to be here! A huge new balance and only one income to work on it...YUCK.

And my first update rolling solo:
Banker Gurl 10/1/14 $168,000.00 (9/17/07 $250,514.73)
Balance $168,500.00 +$509.01 Interest -$768.45 Regular Payment -$240.56 Principle Payment New Balance $168,000.00
I have been doing awesome with savings since the seperation, nothing like life changing brain trauma to make you prioritize and cut down your spending. So that is good, have plently in there to get by for the foreseeable future. I cancelled my cable which saved me $50 a month, so now I just have internet and Netflix. I have always had low grocery and personal care bills since I am a couponer and don't buy much of anything that isn't on sale and a coupon.
My plan for the mortgage is to pay down enough principle each month to have my balance go down $500. I think I could afford more, but I just feel so paranoid with only one income and really just want to bulk up savings as much as possible. It's not like me, but I almost just want to save up the entire balance of the loan and pay it off all at once, rather then making the principle payments each month. I know that is silly and not the way to go as I am paying 3.625% interest on my home loan and only getting less then 1% back on my savings, but it makes my head feel better. So for now I will keep going with the $500 per month principle reduction and see if I want to change that in the future.
BF wants to get married already....I am not ready for that.....I love him a lot and do see a future there, but I am just too broken still to try to take a big step like that. He is very persistent though and asked if he could take me ring shopping. I did go with and showed him what I like and what I don't like, but he is aware that is not happening anytime soon. Now that he has some ideas and prices he can start saving though (I am sure he knows his lady won't want a loan!) and be ready when the time comes and we are both at that place. It is even more complicated since one of us would need to to either rent or sell their home (he has his own house in a different town), change jobs, and move to a new town. Lots and lots of things to think about in the upcoming months.

BankerGurl: I'm glad you are feeling so positive right now. I remember last time I was here, things were very hard for you, so it is wonderful to see you doing so well. I'm so happy for you And thanks to everyone for the support and ideas, I really appreciate it. I realize that I have put myself in this position, burying my head in the sand over the past 6 months b/c DH refuses to help me with finances/budgeting, & its been easier to ignore it all. Well I deserve this wake-up call. There may be factory jobs that I could apply for, they aren't close & I worry about driving far b/c of my vision problems still but I'll have to deal with it. My biggest concern is getting the kids from school when DH is coaching track in the Spring. DS2 gets out of school after DH leaves for all of his track meets so I always had to pick the kids up from school on those days. We will figure it out.

Shop - I believe we are FB friends, right? I have pinned a ton of the $150 meal plans if you want to check those out. I can't get to them from work but I can send them to you later BG - you are doing great Selfishly I am glad you will be around a bit longer because I think I will be here forever. Hahah! Completely understand your hesitation to jump into something with the new bf. Take your time and do things when YOU are ready to. I hope you have a chance to see your dreams come true

UPDATE: 9/29/2014 $44,087.22 (7/25/2014 $44395.32 MPT 334)
This month was not good. We had 3 medical bills, and an expensive auto repair that we had to take care of. We do not have an EF so they went on to the CC.

shopaholic: Good to see you made your way back. I'm sure your DH isn't really burying his head in the sand. He probably just feels like he is doing everything he can to make more money for your family: Master's degree, coaching track, etc. Perhaps a little "honey" would work better: tell him how much you appreciate him etc. for all his hard work. Be sure to have your budget already prepared and then ask if he would just sit for a moment to go over it with you. Worth a shot. If you post your budget numbers here (income vs outgo), I'm sure folks would come up with lots of suggestions for you. We could all become your designated DH! Can you apply for unemployment benefits since I assume it is you that lost their job? How far are you from a town? Neighbors? Would you be comfortable doing daycare? Or maybe work as a teacher's assistant with the school district--perhaps your DH has contacts there. Most of all, just breathe. As long as you can pay for shelter, food, gas/electric and transportation, you will be okay. Also, when on a bare bones budget, let your kids know. Not to scare them but so they understand why you can't be buying them stuff. How old are they? Any possibility of them working? Babysitting? Movie theater? Mowing lawns?

Sam- I got the stuff your sent to me on FB! Thank you very much! Murphath- My kids are 9 & 11 yrs and the older one knows how tight $ is right now, the younger one is somewhat aware. We don't buy them alot of "stuff" other than for birthday & Cmas, so that isn't going to be a big change for them. Although, getting rid of cable may just kill us all. Now that all of the tv shows have started back up for the fall, and football season is in full swing, this is really gonna hurt. Most of our shows can be watched over the internet on Hulu, but there are a few channels that you have to have Hulu Plus to watch those shows, and we wont be able to watch football either which stinks. DH's school isn't hiring, but if needed I could re-apply to be a substitute teacher for the surrounding school districts (which is a HORRIBLE job), and it would take a few weeks until I could get started sub-teaching b/c of all the paperwork, bloodwork, & state & federal background checks they require to be done. It will cost about $150 to do all of that if I remember correctly. And you are right, I do need to thank DH for his hard work more often. I do thank him often, probably not often enough though. I am not at all comfortable doing daycare, I am not good with little kids for longer than a few minutes and I have little patience. That sounds horrible, I love kids but I'm just not very good with them for long periods of time. I know my limitations

Most of our shows can be watched over the internet on Hulu, but there are a few channels that you have to have Hulu Plus to watch those shows, Don't forget to check the various network websites to see if some of your shows can be watched there. CBS posts many of its shows 8 days after airing on cbs dot com, for example. Some of the shows are accessible immediately if you have a certain provider, but open up 8 days after airing for general consumption. I think ABC does this, as I recall.

Shoutouts!
chicg- Sounds like you’re feeling pretty frustrated. I hope the steps you’re taking to bring in a little extra and purge are helping. Gidgetc13- Congrats on your new 0!! NikiZ628- I hope you and your family are doing alright. OweNo- Great little update. Hope you’re adjusting okay to your new home. rr234- Nice update!Momofelliott- Hang in there, you’ll cross that finish line eventually! lttlwhitetanktop- Every little bit helps you get closer and closer to your goal. Nice work! ezlivin- Hopefully your next update is better. Have you considered starting separate savings funds (online, so its harder to get to) for things like vacations, so you can make sure you have enough put away? ners- You just keep plugging, you’re doing an awesome job!Sam- Hope everything is going well! Dizzy- Fantastic update! You’ve almost hit the $35k paid off mark, woo hoo!! Seahorse- Great update! Its so nice when a couple things fall into place like that. CrazyLady14- Congratulations on your win!!! We know you’ve been to hell and back over the years, so whatever the circumstances are that led to your win, it was hard-earned. Enjoy this time, and please keep in touch! Serious- Nice update! Congrats on joining the 5500 Club! Banker Gurl- Welcome back! Glad things are going well. Hope Laughlin was fun with your new man. Shop- So sorry for the loss of income. The others have given some good advice. Keep coming here to vent, and we will all help in any way we can. As far as your race – you can race whatever you want. If adding DH’s student loans in a few months is too daunting, just wait and continue to race what you’re currently racing. (I sent you a PM about your race/tagline). chalupabatman- I’m sure you know this is coming: Its time to start an EF!! Start small, put $50 or even $10 in it to start. It’ll grow quicker than you realize. You can pay minimums for a while so you can build up the EF. I think everyone on here would agree that an EF has come in handy a time or two, I know it has for me.

I hate falling off the list, but it definitely makes it look like I've made more progress when I come back! Still plugging away. Down to just $900 left of CC debt, and the rest is SL. Time to focus on getting a second party hat!
Shop: Sending good juju your direction! Sam: I hope the delivery went well and you have a bouncing baby boy by now!

Update!
lttlwhitetanktop [2]: *10/2/14, $6382.01* (6/21/14, $8500.00) MW331
Woohoo!
Shop - We got rid of cable and I was freaking out about missing my football too. We bought some antenna for $12-$15 from Walmart and it gets four local channels: ABC, NBC, Fox, and CBS. We do have to make sure the thing is in the window, and it has to be hooked up to a newer tv (digital, not analog), but it had worked fairly well. I'm not sure how far you are from the stations, but I think the item we got has a 50 mile range. Might be something to think about!

I wanted to give a quick update on my Grandma. We got the chest xray results back last week and her lungs are CLEAR and healthy! So, we all breathed a BIG sigh of relief. The surgeon is also very confidant that he removed all the cancer in that area when he did the surgery. She goes to the oncologist on the 17th for her PET scan, so please keep your fingers crossed that this also comes back clear! I am sure regardless, chemo or radiation is in her future as a precautionary thing. I was so glad to finally get some good news. The doctor said she looks great, healed great, and now she needs to focus on regaining some weight she lost.
Now we are focusing on trying to get things back to "normal" around here.
I have a debt question to ask you lovely ladies...
H and I are trying to decide how we want to continue with our debt repayment.
We have 3 student loans (2 are mine through SM, 1 is his). My balances are approx $3895 and $1800. (6% on the 1st, 6.8% on the other)
His is $1310, with a 2.3% interest rate.
His loan is the smallest balance we have (and clearly the lowest interest rate). My 1st SM is the highest balance we have with almost the highest interest rate).
We are trying to decide.. Do we try and pay off his quickly and free up and additional $60 a month to put towards mine. OR do we continue to throw extra at SM1 to get that balance down faster? My minimum on SM1 and 2 (its a combined payment) is $84 a month and I've been paying $100 (and applying the extra to SM1). His minimum is $30, and I pay $60 a month. (Our bankruptcy ends in about a month, month and a half....and I will have an additional $140 to apply to something each month).
Thoughts??

nikiz- That is great news about your grandma!! As far as your race, in my opinion it depends on what motivates you. Would a $0 give you guys a boost, or would seeing the debt with the highest interest rate go down more and more each month? Assuming you paid off DH's loan first, how much would that add to your snowball each month?

nikiz - Good luck with Grandma. It sounds like things are going well. I would pay the minimum DH's loan and put the extra $30 to the higher rate loans. I would also ask Sallie Mae if your additional payment can specifically go to the $1800 balance since it is smaller and at a higher rate. Even if they don't let you do that, I would pay the higher rate Sallie Mae debt before DH's loan. Mathematically that is what will get you out of debt fastest, and since you only have a few debts, I think the lower total debt will provide a bigger psychological boost that eliminating DH's loan.

When I pay it online, it asks me which loan I would like to apply the additional funds. I had just been applying it to the higher balance, but I really do think I am going to tackle the $1800 now. It is the highest interest rate and a do-able balance...a zero would boost our motivation for sure!!

nikiz: So glad you got good news on gma . I agree on tackling the $1800 loan first. I would also just do $30 to DH's loan and apply the other $30 to the $1800 loan. So exciting to think about how fast that $1800 will go away . Sam: Thinking of you and your little one today! Praying all is going well . anotherdooropens: Hooray for being down to $900 in CC debt..keep us posted on that number as it goes down, down, down. I love watching and hearing about those debts going to zero!
