I think I will create one out on the main board since I am sure there are others that will want to join us as well.

The more I look at our budget, the more I am getting nervous about the new house. We can no longer cover the bills on my income alone. DH is bringing home fairly regular checks now, but it is scary to have to rely on that since we've been managing on my income until this point. We didn't even stretch our budget for the house to the max!!! I can't imagine how tight it would be if we had. Thankfully we've worked out a daycare arrangement that will still go up, but not double starting in Jan when I go back. And we will save about $750 while I am out on leave just from not having to pay that part of childcare.
I just hate having everything in limbo. I've got the projected utility numbers, but until we live in the house I have no idea what the real figures will be. And now DH wants to get furniture for the family room and living room so that we can have people over, we need to get furniture for J's room (although not until he's born or a bit after). But oh my word.

Seahorse: The truck payments are set, buuut the SL payments just went into deferment because I’m back in school part-time. Interest is currently -.15% (yes, that’s a negative) so now there is no hurry to pay it off. So DH and I are discussing needing more grocery $ vs wanting more fun $. We will cut it back, I just don’t know how much. It is actually a grouping of 5 SL’s, so I will concentrate any payment on the smallest one first so when they come out of deferment my minimum payment will be smaller. It is a relief to have the wriggle room, I just don’t want to waste it. Good Luck tackling Citibank 26!
Acemom: I love long rants, they make me feel normal, but I don’t have much help to offer. Keeping a few frozen pizzas around helps me not run to subway on busy nights. Price out a YMCA membership, it may be cheaper to join than pay the non-member rate. My kids loved Y-camp, and it was cheaper than day-care. I agree with borrowing from your son’s account to save interest, but only if you are capable of staying out of debt and paying him back. If you have doubts, don't do it, the guilt will eat at you.
Ners: you are right on track!
Minnesotagirl: Take the zero, you earned it. There are a multiple ways to reduce debt!
Sam: I’m in! I need help keeping the groceries in budget.

Acemom - After reading about your savings for your son, I ran downstairs to the bank branch and opened a savings account for my upcoming baby. I might as well get started. It will autopull from my checking account monthly.

Alright, you convinced me. I really thought the opinions would be more varied. I appreciate all your thoughts. Assuming the sale goes through tonight, we will pay off the loan and I'll post a new $0 with a ~$22,000 decrease in my racing total. Too bad this didn't happen before the end of the summer challenge!

Shout Outs!
Serious: Way to blast that debt! It is shocking when you realize how much of your income goes towards debt, isn’t it? Yikes! Seahorse: Dropping a digit to the left of your balance feels good, doesn’t it? That’s a nice milestone to reach! I like your idea of naming your bank – I vote for “First Seahorse Bank”! Minnesotagirl: You have done an awesome job reaching your goals – maybe summer reruns will help you get into reading more to complete your list! Dizzyintellectual: That Home Depot balance must be quaking in its boots right about now – looks like you are on track for another big zero! Gidgetc13: You are an inspiration - $77,000+ in 5 years is terrific! Over 80% done – your snowball is really rolling now – great job! Ners: You are doing great with your goals as well and are on track to meet your year-end goal!

Acemom: We all need to rant sometimes, and I'm sure we have all been in that overwhelmed, stressed-out-about-debt situation as well. It does concern me that you have seen the shortfalls in your budget, but are still planning to spend a lot over the next few months - vacation, YMCA camp for your son, your sister's wedding, etc. As hard as it is to deny our kids (trust me, I have been there SO MANY TIMES), there comes a point where you have to say no because you just don't have the money. I got us into a huge amount of credit card debt, twice, because I refused to see that there were things we just could not afford. I say all this with the greatest respect and concern for your situation. Have you looked into what the YMCA membership would cost? Would it be better to pay for that yourself if it would cut the cost of your DS's camp? Are there ways you can reduce the cost of your vacation - I know you are driving, but if you have any "extras" planned, that may be a place to reduce your expenses for that trip. Have you considered cancelling your trip?
It is difficult to cut your budget when you don't have a lot of "wants" in it. I've been there, too. Having to guesstimate utilities doesn't help. Once you get those numbers, maybe looking at your budget will not be so bad.
Other Racers have had good suggestions about stopping contributions to your DS's college fund, and I would go so far as to say stop deductions to your savings accounts, period, until your credit cards are paid off. The interest you are earning on those savings accounts is not enough to make it worthwhile when you have credit card debt.
I have used the snowball method and gotten very good results with it. I found that paying off my smallest balance first gave me the momentum to keep at it, while giving me extra to throw at the next debt on my list. Sometimes it's not about interest rates so much as getting the extra $$ to make a difference in the balances versus paying minimums.
You can do this! The Racers are here whenever you need advice or a safe place to vent.

We sold the motor home! I have a cashier's check burning a hole in my pocket. When the bank opens at 9, I will run over and deposit it. After it clears, I'll pay off the loan. My third race has been so strange; first I lowered then dropped the part of my mortgage I was racing, and now the MH loan will go away. I can't believe all we're down to for debt is the tractor loan (0%) and our mortgages. Holy crap! I absolutely know we could never have made it to this position without this board and all of you. Thank you Racers, for being both my inspiration and my conscience!

Good morning all! Thank you for the comments and suggestions. I feel better knowing I'm not alone! So far, I have cancelled the auto payment to my son's account - $25/pay check. I have already put the first $25 (that would have gone in today) towards my smallest CC (Kohls)! That's really all I've done so far though. When I get back from vacation, I will transfer the money out of his account and pay off a few cards. I also went and returned a dress that I bought for the wedding I'm going to this Friday and got my $50 back! As for the YMCA... we split the cost, so I only have to pay every other week. A family membership is $67.16/month which would would save $35/week on camp, but we wouldn't use it other than for his camp. Do you think it's worth it for the summer? I'm not sure how that would work with my ex either. My son is spending the week with his step grandma since it's a short week for him since we leave for vaca on Thursday. He will also spend a week with my mom sometime during the summer... Speaking of vacation, we are going to see family for 10 days. My cousin is getting married on Friday. We go every year for a week in the summer. I don't really do anything when I go! Usually sit around on my dad's back porch and watch the turkeys or the deer in the field. My dad swears that there are a few bald eagles out there, but I've yet to see one! We will go to the beach one day, but mostly all of my money will be spent on gas getting there and back and I'll attempt to make or buy dinner one night. My car gets great gas mileage, so I think that will even be way less than it usually is - and I have money set aside for that. We stay with my dad, so there are no expenses there! I went to Aldi last night and spent $11 on snacks for the trip and a few things for dinner tonight (asparagus and wine). I will be making sandwiches for the drive so we don't' get tempted at the rest areas along the PA Turnpike. KCLadyjane - I'm so glad I can give someone a good idea for something! Congrats on the baby!! Minnesota - Congrats on selling the motor home! Sam - I'm in for the grocery challenge. I will be doing a pantry clean out after vaca and focus on getting it cleared out before rebuying. I found a lot of stuff in the back of my pantry when I moved, so I have lots of pasta and canned stuff to eat before buying more! Seahorse - I like "First Seahorse Bank" as well Seriousthistime - I don't have a 529. I've just put money automatically into an ING account since I found out I was pregnant with him. It adds up!

Well here it is... | 3/18/13 | 5/29/14 | 7/2/14 | Total Difference | John Deere | $18,140.00 | $9,580.00 | $9,200.00 | -$8,940.00 | Affinity Plus | $29,792.72 | $22,142.21 | $0.00 | -$29,792.72 | BMO Harris | $25,648.96 | $0.00 | $0.00 | -$25,648.96 | Total | $73,581.68 | $31,722.21 | $9,200.00 | -$64,381.68 |

Minnesotagirl7 [3]: 7/4/14 $9,200 (3/18/13 $73,581.68 MPT281, 222, 226) It was super easy to pay off the loan today. I figured one back or another would give me a hard time, but all told it took ~15 minutes. I'm pretty happy with my shiny new $0. Our only remaining debt, the tractor, is at 0% interest. I will accelerate paying it off somewhat, so I can finish my race, but I'm not going to go too crazy. Thanks again for the advice and support everyone!

July 2014 Mortgage Payment
Balance $89,800.00 +$205.79 Interest -$1218.88 Regular Payment -$86.91 Principle Payment New Balance $88,700.00
Banker Gurl 7/01/14 $88,700.00 (9/17/07 $170,714.73)
Hi Ladies, not sure what my last official word was on here, but in case it didn't make it on here....XH moved out in May, he said he planned to work on himself and his drinking and come back. Not too surprisingly that did not happen. He continued to drink and lie to friends, family and counselor about his issues/discrepancies.
End of May we decided we are for sure getting divorced. We are trying to remain friends at some level and have been doing ok at that, though sometimes my anger would overtake me and I couldn't handle it.
A few weeks ago a guy I knew 10 years ago contacted me on FB and asked me to come out with him and some friends and we've been having a great time together since. I know it probably seems crazy fast to move on like this, but we have been in "divorce stages" for over 9 months now....previous to that I have been lonely for about 2 years, so we are pushing 3 years of feeling alone. I am happy now. My new man friend is wonderful, takes care of me, spoils me, makes me feel appreciated. I know it's very, very early, but for now I am just so happy and thankful to have someone in my life that wants me to be happy. My family, friends and coworkers have all been commenting so much on how nice it is to see me smiling again. Smile And last week he sent me flowers... I haven't gotten flowers in 11 1/2 YEARS!
He also owns his own home and has very minimal debt (less then $1K other then the mortgage), and a great credit score. He is going on a trip to Vegas with some friends and I asked him if he was excited for the trip...he said he was, but not as much anymore cause he doesn't want to spend money down there, he wants to be in a better financial spot for me!...guess Banker Gurl is rubbing off on him! LOL He has been asking lots of advise on saving money etc., he makes good money, and is responsible with it, but is also extremely, extremely generous and pays for lots of things for his friends and family (and ME) that he doesn't need too.
So for now I am feeling so much better. We are working through getting the house transferred over to me, divorce paper work and separating savings. Still have hard moments at times and I know it will be awhile before that stops, but feel so very lucky to be where I am now.

(((hugs))) bankergurl. I am glad you seem to be happy and are moving forward. lisa - make a photobucket account and put photos in there, then you can share them here Sorry SIL is having a rough time right now. There's plenty of good-paying jobs around here if that's what he's looking for. But I understand there's often more to it when it comes to military. Hopefully he can find a good fit soon

UPDATE Chicg [2]: 7/8/14 $3,230.75 (11/7/2012 $4,217.34 MPT266) Down from $3655.75. Baby steps. I'll make another payment next paycheck but I ran up a non-racing cc that usually has a $0 balance with a few charges last month, so I need to get that back to $0 with the next check, then the rest can go to racing.
Bankergurl - congrats on the new boy.
Can't remember if I mentioned but I broke things off with the guy I was dating around June 1. He dumped me, then texted me in the middle of the night for 3 weeks asking me back while at the same time hurling insults at me. I finally told him to please leave me alone and I no longer wanted him in my life or saw us having a future and I think he got the message. I don't do drama games and he crossed the line with me. It was a long time coming, I never really felt a connection with him but was hoping it would work/develop. Anyhow, I fail at dating and am taking a break to focus on myself for a while and get my head in a good place.

I meant to get the updates done last night ... then the weather got icky and our power was flickering off and on so thought it would be wise to wait until this morning. Karma is kicking me right in the keister ... a couple of months ago DH and I decided we should look into replacing the roof on our house. We had been going around and around with our insurance carrier (they wanted to cancel our homeowners insurance that we had with them for over 30 years because a basement door had a piece of wood where the glass had been broken eons ago.) So I stupidly started wishing for a hail storm to come and damage our roof so we could file a claim on our insurance and then cancel them after they paid for it. That'll teach me! Since then, we have had a couple of minor storms, and last night it hailed ALL AROUND US but not in our neck of the woods. We have contracted with a company to replace the roof - they should be starting next week some time. They told us "if" we got any storm-related damage before they came out to call them immediately and they would work with our insurance carrier. Doesn't look like that phone call is going to be made ... What do you want to bet that as soon as that new roof is in place, we get some hail damage to it? I've learned my lesson: no more tempting Karma like that! Once the roof is done and we see what the final $$ are, I'll decide about starting another race. We have enough in savings to pay for it, but that would totally deplete our EF and I'm not sure that I want to do that right now.

I'm on spending lockdown right now, I spent a fortune in MI with my friends last weekend and I'm getting my windshield fixed (2 spots) Friday which will be about $200. That seems high to me, I'm going to call another place tomorrow to see if they're cheaper.
Anyone having trouble with food budgets should check out Sam's FOod Budget Challenge on the main board. It's not super active, but I've been much more mindful about spending and meal planning and not running to the store for every indulgence since posting there. Anything to help right now. Thanks for setting it up Sam!

Back from vacation. Wish I was still there! I had a great time visiting my family!
I transferred $4000 from my son's account this morning. This will get 4 of my cards paid off, leaving me with one card with interest and the others at 0%. I have to go grocery shopping tonight or tomorrow, but my son will only be with me for 2 days this week, so I think I will do bare minimum shopping and eat whatever is in my pantry/freezer since it will just be me.
I'll have an update later this week after the transfer goes through and the bills have been paid!

I did 2 0% balance transfers from my DH credit card that has 25% interest. He has auto payments of $210 going on it each month + the balance that was on it before, getting charged $75 in interest each month and only paying $300 each month. Not sure how he thought it was ever going away. So $7030.50 of the increase is from him. The rest is pet expenses mostly. Having a cat with cancer and a dog with Cushings disease, even with insurance, gets a bit pricey. Waiting for some reimbursements. Good news though! My cat is improving a lot. We just went to the oncologist yesterday and they think she is only going to need one more treatment. Also, I found out I'm getting a mid-year bonus on August 1st (don't know how much) and that we're all getting profit sharing at the end of the year. Hopefully that will help out with the pay cut I took. I'm 6 months in and I still love my job.

UPDATE Chicg [2]: 7/18/14 $2,995.75 (11/7/2012 $4,217.34 MPT266) difference of $235 from last post
Decided to push and put a little extra from today's paycheck to debt to get below $3K. Hopefully I left enough for the rest of the month. My payday towards the end of the month goes almost completely to rent/gym/Verizon so it's going to be a very lean 4 weeks.
I'm doing better on my food budget though! Still higher than I'd like, but I spent over $400 last month (including take out, etc) and right now I'm at $180 with a stocked fridge. I won't meet my goal of $200 but it will be a big improvement over last month. I'm going to continue my challenge next month, and add in "no buying lunch at the office" challenge. I used to be so good about bringing lunch, now I'm not, and it's eating up around $100/mo. Definitely not worth it. Thanks for the food budget thread Sam, it's been super helpful. Go figure, accountability works
