The stress is starting to get to me. I can't sleep. I keep waking up. And I'm... calm... rational... but I feel like crying all the time. lark - I'm so sorry you have to go through this mess. I'm sending prayers and a bug hug your way. And a karma point, too.

The second big update is that I finished my race! I feel like a little bit of a cheater though because we were able to pay off the last of our huge credit card balance due to a very unexpected inheritance from a family member of my husband's who passed away a year ago. Congratulations wantanewjob!!!! You're not a cheater by no means. You paid your debt off honestly and if you received an unexpected gift along the way to help that's okay. Good for you! I am so happy for you!!!!!

UPDATE/REJOIN: Hey all! Now, I may not remember page numbers or any of that jazz and I'm not going to concern myself with a table so I'll just be providing my tagline with what I think my page numbers were. I am: nidena $186,692.63 5/8/11 ($223,361.20 8/22/07 N453, 503, NE648)My mortgage and HEL are the only debts that have never gone back up. I'm working on my last personal CC and a business CC.

Update Munjoyhill 5/4/11 $144,183.06 ($155,240.30 6/18/09 NE629, NEU 301)Just when I start to feel good about paying the $20 extra per week on my mortgage, I look at the overall debt, and feel a little frustrated that it's going down so slowly. My monthly mortgage payment is $642.16, and out of that around $180 is going to principal, and the rest to interest. Sigh. I don't want to take 30 years to pay off this mortgage, even though I took out a 30 year loan. Munjoyhill - don't think that the $20 extra every month is just a small amount. Keep in mind that this is an additional 3.5% extra to your payment that goes straight to your principal AND the $20 is not just $20 it is also the interest you save on that amount for 30 years. You might want to set up a spreadsheet that has your original payment schedule on one page and the same with the additional payments on another. That way you can see the difference your additional payment makes in both time to pay off the loan and interest saved. Keep up the good work

OK. I have found amusement in the midst of the insanity.
About... 3 months ago, I got a bill from the Water Service for Samuel Forman. Samuel Forman was the original owner of my house until I bought it five years ago - actually, he and his wife raised their three kids in this house, and he and his wife died of old age about 6-7 years ago, his grown children sold the house to me.
So, why, after five years of regularly receiving the bill in MY name, and paying the bill on time every month like clockwork am I suddenly getting a bill for Samuel Forman? Because someone named Samuel Forman is now living on ANOTHER street in ANOTHER house, and apparently just turned on service - and I guess someone at the water co is confused.
I sent the bill back the first time. Then I got a delinquent bill for Samuel Forman. I wrote back, and I pointed out that 1) it's another house, 2), the guy they're writing at MY house may have the same name as the guy at the new house, but the guy who was here has been dead several years, and 3) I pay my bill on time, every month - and they're sending me a bill every month, showing payment for service, yadda-yadda, what's the problem?
I got another bill, with a threat to turn off the water. Presumably at the other house, but goodness only knows, I don't assume anything these days, so I called and asked, what is the problem? So I got a letter in the mail a few days later, addressed to Samuel Forman, telling me they're investigating and promising Samuel Forman they'll give him "judgement" in the next 30 days!
OK. I forwarded the letter to The Real Samuel Forman at the other address. It doesn't exist. Got that? The letter was returned to me by the post office because it was "undeliverable, no such number" - the other address does not exist!
So - any posits what they're drinking at the water company? Or... perhaps smoking?

Lark: Wow!! What a mess........seems the Water folks are a bit "confused"?!?! Good luck with that one.
I want to thank everyone behind the scenes for keeping this board going. A special thanks to Bankergurl as I love the updates!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!
I find these boards very inspirational. I don't always have time to post, but I eventually catch up with the reading. When I'm feeling down or STUCK and that I'm not making any progress, reading the boards really help!
Thanks all!!!!

lark - I'm so sorry you have to go through this mess. I'm sending prayers and a bug hug your way. And a karma point, too. Raven, I gotta say, I love getting hugs, but a "bug hug" is just - you put the biggest grin on my face with that typo!! I had to give you karma just for that!! Update on the water board - I just spoke with them, asked them why they are writing to a dead guy, and the woman I spoke with said she actually straightened this out Friday, sent out a letter correcting the bill to The Actual Real Samuel Forman, as well as to me - so I'll probably see the correction letter today or tomorrow, she was laughing, too! So.. at least there are things to giggle about!

Can I start over?!? We are NOT filing bankruptcy at this time!! Woohooo!! ;D DH got a new job that has given us the opportunity to revamp our enitre budget to include savings AND debt payoff. We are starting over with a fresh outlook and budget that forecasts a viable plan. Here is how we stand today... Creditor | Starting Balance | 5/9/11 | Total Paid | Current Balance | Capital One (5.99%) | $10,719 | $0 | $0 | $10,719 | Citi (0%) | $4,750 | $0 | $0 | $4,750 | Chase (0%) | $2,711 | $0 | $0 | $2,711 | ING Overdraft LOC (11.24%) | $2,890 | $0 | $0 | $2,890 | Littman (0%) | $4,700 | $0 | $0 | $4,700 | Fidelity (0%) | $8,620 | $0 | $0 | $8,620 | CU Loan (9.9%) | $5,930 | $0 | $0 | $5,930 | Auto Loan 1 (3.99%) | $13,640 | $0 | $0 | $13,640 | Total | $53,960 | $0 | $0 | $53,960 |
Total percentage paid: 0% Delphinus317 5/9/11 $53,960 (5/9/11 $53,960)When I put it all together like this, it still seems pretty daunting, BUT, I'm excited to be back on track with a better plan than we had before.

Hi ladies! I'm looking for some outside input so thought I'd ask my fellow racers...I know there really isn't a right or wrong answer, so, I'd just like to hear various ideas. I've been working on getting out of debt for about 4 years now (about 3 with WIR!) Silly me, thought I'd be out of debt by now, but not even close. Anyway, I do FINALLY have a budget that works, for the most part, and am living within my means. It's been a long road...
A couple weeks ago, I got annoyed with the credit union that had my car loan. It's not the first issue I've had with them and I didn't do any other banking there, just the loan. So, I decided to refinance with my regular CU, who I LOVE and had decided even if it was a higher rate, I would do it for the decrease in aggravation. Well, the rate ended up being BETTER, at 3.5%, and since my car is worth more than 2K than I owe, I financed it for another 60 months (was down to about 48). Then, the next DAY, I see my CU is offering personal loans for around 5%. I had an outstanding loan from house renovations for around 7K at over 11%, so, I called and refinanced this loan, and took out an additional 3K. My initial intention was to pay down one of my outstanding, lingering CC's. But, now I'm not sure what to do....I did make a $500 payment to the oldest CC with the highest balance. I have about a 4700 balance on Chase, some at 12.9% (most of it) and a small amount, like 1K at 3%) and about 3500 on Wells Fargo at 10.9%. So, I still have to decide what to do with the rest of the money, $2500. 1.) I have two fairly big house maintenance issues that need to be taken care of. One will cost around $1200 and the other probably $2500. I'm thinking about doing the $1200 one (more crucial than the other). 2.) There's probably a 50/50 chance my job will not be here by the end of the year and with my expenses, I would not be able to survive on UE, so thought of leaving a chunk of it in savings...just in case... Any thoughts? Advice?

Hey all. Congrats to all the recent winners!! ;D We still haven't closed on our house. We *may* close this week, but we may also have a HUGE battle to fight first. You see, the sellers attorney was supposed to clear the title of the two foreclosed mortgage liens from the previous owners two months ago. They dropped the ball and didn't pushing our closing back another week. Not too bad, right? WRONG. Our rate expires on the rehab portion of our loan, which in turn we loose money and gain a higher rate. No Bueno. We signed a contract and held our end up - we were ready to close 2 weeks ago. So, we asked the bank for an extension on the rate for 1 week. The bank agrees, but to the tune of anywhere between $500-$2k. The selling agent said he's not paying, says we're responsible. Um, hello...McFly!! We didn't drop the ball, the sellers attorney did. So, if this doesn't get resolved and they try to make us pay (or our agent or mortgage broker) we plan on walking and then taking whatever actions we need to from there. So, right now, it's a mess. Yay. I hope I have better news next time I stop in. Take care all.

Maude, do not despair - it's just not clean, fast, or pretty to close a deal on a house. You are correct, THEY messed up, THEY pay, they don't like it, you've got a clear offer and a contract, it's cut and dry, they're responsible, don't back down, and don't sweat it. When I bought my house, the owners were deceased, they had four children who had to sign off on the sale, but one of them was a globe-trotter, she was somewhere in Thailand or some such at the time of the closing, and when they couldn't get everyone to sign off in a timely fashion, the other side's legal support said, "Well, can't we just *fake* it?" Yes. An ATTORNEY asked for this. And I nearly walked. And they freaked out and tracked their sister down. It happens. It's aggravating, you won't sleep the night before your visit to the closing, your hands will cramp as you sign the inch or two of paper - it's just part of the process! Drink, woman! Learn to drink! ;D And indulge in Godiva

Hello Racers!, Whoo Hoo!!! I found you guys. I have been reading for the past couple of days trying to catch up with everyone. Congratulations to all of those that have recently won their races! And, I’m so sorry to hear about those of you that are going through hard times. Just remember that these trials and tribulations will just make you stronger in the long run. I hope I can get back on the list. It’s been a while. I’d like to revise my tagline though. I’m hoping someone can help me with that. I want to reflect the fact that I paid off the car that was in my original amount but I also want to add a non-racing credit card I have. The last tagline I posted in October was this: OurTimeToShine2010 $19258.52 (4/23/2010 $22874.01 NEU193) Here are my latest numbers: Creditor | Starting Amt | 5/10/2011 | Difference | IBM | $7347.65 | $6519.40 | $828.25 | BOA | $8440.77 | $7599.22 | $841.55 | Car | $7085.59 | $0 | $7085.59 | Citi | $5912.28 | $5912.28 | $0 | Totals | $28066.29 | $19310.90 | $8755.39 |

WELCOME BACK! This is what your current tagline/table would be. I came up with different totals from your table than you did, but with the same amount for a payoff.
