I'm beginning to feel like I'll still be racing years and years from now. Because of life circumstances, I had to scale back my over payments (minimum x 2 vs minimum x 5) and it has been almost 5.5 years. If I get a windfall, I will definitely knock this out. Instead, I just had a setback with repairs needed on my house. Blah, blah, blah...

Oh. My. GAWD.
Oh, what a STUPID, RIDICULOUS, INSANE "management" policy!
I already knew I didn't like BofA when they took my mortgage. But BofA didn't try to blatantly screw me over. They sold my mortgage to Nation Star, though - and Nation Star, if you can believe it, told me that they WILL NOT send me statements in the mail about my mortgage, and WILL NOT allow me access to my mortgage online because I am in Chapter 13 bankruptcy!
Um... what?
I called my attorney, and I called the Chapter 13 court trustee, and they're going to be contacting these folks and disavowing them of this notion that they can hold my mortgage hostage without presenting me with any facts, but - um... WOW.
So. I still haven't got my mortgage information. After two months. I can give you an estimate of my balances... I'm going to have to, at this point.
Wow. I'm just in awe.

Hey ladies, I'm new here. I somewhat followed WIR on msn money in the past. I'm trying to get serious about not only paying down my debt, but getting my credit score back up to where it used to be (above a 750). I'm in the middle of a divorce and basically starting all over again. I'm starting off with my credit card debt. It may seem low but trust me, I have PLENTY more debt (student loans, mortgage, etc.). I just figured starting with the smallest would be more encouraging since it will be a faster pay off.

Maryland Monroe: I have so been in your shoes!! I've been at this for a long time now, I have been with this group since 2010. There have been some slow times where I had to make minimum payments which was tough and then there have been good times where I've been able to pay more. Do what you can and any time you can move forward, do it and celebrate. It is only now that I've hit the 1/2 point that I'm feeling like I'm getting some where. I still have a long way to go, but this second half should go much faster than the last half!!!
Munjoyhill: Congrats on retiring to do what you truly love!! Someday maybe I can do that as well!!
Movinonup: Thanks for that updated list. It was nice of you to do that.
Kristi: Welcome!
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, I know I am! Lots of fun times with my DH, children, and grandchildren. Let the good times roll!!

5 years ago today, I signed up for this racers board. I can't begin to thank y'all enough for all of the things I have learned in that time, and I know I'll learn more as time goes on. I am 2/3 of the way through my race, and I will totally get there and keep myself in the black. good luck to all of you with your own races, we'll all get there!

Hi All - what a summer it's been so far! I'm a touch behind but here are my numbers. Considering the ups and downs, I'm still mostly on track. Just a touch higher, but nothing but down going ahead! First news, got a new car (my grandmother's friend is 94 and needed to be removed from the road - so I got to get her car - 2005 Toyota Camry with a touch less than 12k miles!!!) My folks decided to pay for it for me. Yes, I have very nice parents, and no, they're not adopting. Also sold the old paid off car to Carmax. Got a better deal than expected, so I'm happy. Used the money to pay back most of what I spent to get the new car all registered and up to Maryland's standards. Included things like replacing the windshield due to a chip (insurance, after a bit of a fight, will be covering it), removing the tinting on the windows (needed in Florida, illegal in Maryland - who knew?) and a bracket for a front license plate. By Monday, all of the stuff should be done and everything totally set. Sadly, one of my CCs is covering the remains of the cost to repair the old car. Problems I shouldn't be having with the new car, thankfully. That one I'm hoping to knock out of the park by the end of the year.
Second piece of news, I'm heading out on my vacation to Stratford Ontario - 4 plays on tap. We're cancelling on the fifth, mostly because what HAD been my one and only non-family vacation turned into a ALL my family vacation, folks and grandma! But they're paying for the whole thing (that was my bday gift) so I can only complain softly about it and definitely not to them! Guess I'll just have to plan another camping trip - something I know they'll refuse to do. Been seeing someone for about a month now, and he's a total gentleman. I'm trying to figure out how to get him to fall off the proverbial wagon... . We're planning a full day of driving on Saturday to see all the covered bridges and play at an orchard. It was his desire to go "driving" - I just picked a direction and some specific things to view on the way. He loved the idea. I think he thinks I'm an old maid type - wait til he finds out that's just because this month has been stressfull and I've been tired and only planning quiet activities. Next on my wishlist is whitewater rafting and tree house camping. And maybe a rollercoaster or three. Wonder what he'll think about that! Best wishes to everyone in the upcoming month!

Hi all! I'm overdue for an update, I think. I just got back from a Murphy-filled vacation yesterday. I drove from DE to CA and back in three weeks. Along the way, I had the fun of a few unplanned expenses: two new tires (cause a curb that I ran into got its revenge), a new radiator (the irony that it crapped out on Donner Pass), and now the Jeep is in the shop to fix a fuel receptacle that geysers, burbling (not spraying) windshield wiper fluid, and an a/c that doesn't blow cold air. The a/c took a crap just as we got into Des Moines two days ago. We got to drive from there to DE with the windows rolled down. The road noise was unbelievable. We made it though.

That should help me because I am about to book a trip that I have not saved for yet. My LOC balance went up again because I laid out some money for my MIL so we could go visit my BIL in Minnesota. Hopefully that will be a zero again next update. As long as I keep that balance under $1,000 I am happy. -movinonup

Update: Wudnit 9/1/13 $80,778 (1/13/10 $172,915 NEU46)
I am a bit early on my update, but am going out of town and have already mailed the checks. I think there is something miraculous about hitting the 50% mark, after that, you feel like you are on the downward slide. I'm enjoying that feeling while it lasts!! I hit 90K paid this month, so that is a biggie for me, though not as big as it will be when I hit $100K paid, but I'm remembering to celebrate all the little victories. Getting close to being under $80K!!!
I've also gotten below $20,000 on our apartment mortgage! That's huge for me. I'm LOVING seeing the smaller numbers. At the beginning of the year we still owed $35,660 on the apartment so I'm making DEFINITE progress!!

Kristin11: 8/29/13 $4,766.72 (12/31/09 $16,567.73 NEU8)
Creditor | 7/9/13 | 8/29/13 | Difference | Domestications | $0 | $0 | $0 | Kohls | $0 | $0 | $0 | Target Visa | $0 | $0 | $0 | Discover | $3,830.03 | $3,770.89 | ($59.14) | Disney Visa | $1,134.70 | $995.83 | ($138.87) | Shell | $0 | $0 | $0 | Macy's | $0 | $0 | $0 | Sister's Loan | $0 | $0 | $0 | Bethpage Loan | $0 | $0 | $0 | Aunt's Loan | $0 | $0 | $0 | Total: | $4,964.73 | $4,766.72 | ($198.01) |
Just turtling along … I have a feeling that my next 5 or 6 updates are going to look more like this. I think I might be able to get that Disney Visa paid off in 4 more payments which would mean in January I would be able to transfer some of my Discover balance over to it before that rate resets in March. I really thought when I did that Discover balance transfer that I would be able to have it paid off by the time the 12 months came around but unfortunately other things have come up in the past few months. My plan with these two cards is too keep paying the minimum to Discover and transferring money over to the Disney until they are both at zero! Then this race will be finished and it will be onto the next one. Happy racing everyone! On another note – Is anyone as sad as I am to see the summer go?

Alright, here I am. I popped back in during May to post an update, and then disappeared again.
DH is officially retired. He'll get his first pension check in January. Between now and then, he'll get payments to tide us over, but I have no way to really gauge what they'll be. He did pick up a new fulltime job (thank heavens!!), less than one week before he retired, so once his pension kicks in, we should be right back where we were. I'm trying not to bank on those hold over payments, so that they can go straight in the bank, but we'll see!
SS moved out in late April. There's a chance he'll move back in later this fall, but there's really no telling. It drives me nuts that so much is up in the air, but ciest la vie. I just try to not let it drive me over a cliff.
Fertility treatments are not going well. Two ivf tries later, with no luck. The second attempt was better (all things considered), but we're still waiting for the final summary from the doctor, which may indicate which direction we go. Both DH and I are open to adoption, but we're still crossing our fingers (and praying and hoping) that we'll be able to have one of our own. If it's not meant to be though, we're either getting a second dog, or going on a trip to Japan. Or both.
I have not been paying extra on anything this year. I am hoping to get back into that early in 2014. This year has been all about saving money for DH's retirement. By January, his full pension payments should kick in, and I'll know what I'm working with. Between now and then, I'm hoping to just save, save, save...
My exciting(?) news is that with the next payment on our car, the loan will be below $15,000, which makes me happy. And with our October payment on our house, the mortgage will be below $100,000, which makes me VERY happy. Only a few short months away! (If that's 'exciting' news, then it's just further proof that everything is relative!)

Waiting for the mortgage payment to post tomorrow or the next day then will post my update. The WIRR anniversary is coming up soon but I don't remember how many years ago it began. I started racing in 2007 so I know it was the Sept of the year before or in 2005. Any Galactic State of the Union in the works?

I do not beleive my last post was May--Summer came and gone already--I have been a turtle--A happy turtle--just trying to knock off some non racing bills and save a bit of money before the end of the year. then I should have a nice amount to put into this race. My store cards are still the same--I do pay them but i also use them--shopping my guilty pleasure. Its what got me into this mess--I try not to let the bal go up--I will eventually get rid of them they are my only active cc's and I know something has to be done . MY BAD--otherwise i think i am slowly making progress. Crisde, in my experience, store cards have the highest interest rates to be carrying a balance on. If you're paying interest on them and still need/want an active credit card, you'd be doing well to shop around for a card with a better rate. That's usually easy to find at a bank or CU or even online.

--Rocky Mtn Saver--I know what you are saying and I know what I am doing is not a smart money thing--but--I also know the way I am. If I get a low interest card for shopping i will run up the balance and use the card for more then just department stores--It would not work for me I have no will power and am the first to admit it--so what I did was cancel all major cards so they eventually will get paid off--I kept my two store cards so i can use the coupon deals on them--I have promised myself and have been good about not letting balances go any higher then they are right now so i am paying off any purchases plus interest each month--I know it is not the right thing to do when I am in debt--but like they say baby steps right--I am giving myself til March of 2016--to be totally debt free--that is when my mortgage will be paid off and DH wants to retire so I have about two and half years to get my act together. and I will I don't think I would be able to to it without this board--I have learned so much and just knowing i have to post balances helps me stay on tract.

I have promised myself and have been good about not letting balances go any higher then they are right now so i am paying off any purchases plus interest each month--I know it is not the right thing to do when I am in debt--but like they say baby steps right-- I am giving myself til March of 2016--to be totally debt free--that is when my mortgage will be paid off and DH wants to retire so I have about two and half years to get my act together. and I will I don't think I would be able to to it without this board--I have learned so much and just knowing i have to post balances helps me stay on tract. That's a great goal! Have you formulated a plan to get there yet?
