Congratulations and good luck EL! Let us know how it goes!
Minnesota - I'd be interested in the weekly challenges! I'll see if I can go find it on the midwest board...

What fees are you paying that you shouldn't be?
I'm usually pretty good about keeping my fees down. The one thing I have to figure out is whether or not we want to keep our overdraft at the bank. That's a $4 fee each month, on top of the monthly banking fee ($10.95).
While on one hand, I like the safety net that OD provides, but on the other hand, $4 a month is a tank of gas over the course of the year. We never used to have OD, but when we moved into the house, I wanted to be sure that I wasn't caught off guard by all the various (new) bills. Maybe once we've been paying all the bills for a couple months I'll feel comfortable enough to cancel it.

Great job Z's!
In the interest of full disclosure, we missed our rental mortgage payments this month. So, two years after I started asking them, our bank is finally willing to do a refi.
They have offered us a 29K loan at 4% for 7 years. I was very happy with that! So the two loans on the same rental will be consolidated, and our monthly payment will go down from 772e to 400e. The new loan will replace the first two lines in my signature.
The paperwork will supposedly go through "very quickly", whatever that means.
This will relieve a HUGE amount of stress for me!

ldawngirl: 09/14/2012, $4,068.22 (07/11/2012, $8,328.57, IU48)
VISA (1.9% balance transfer until April 30, 2013) - $3,847.02 Mastercard (18.99% interest) - $221.20
$4,260.35 (51%) paid off
The Mastercard is almost paid off!! I'm hoping that by next week it will be down to $0 and then I can focus on the Visa. I have some money for freelance that should be coming in the next month or two, so that will put a nice dent in the Visa. Thankfully the interest rate is so low for now.

I just wanted to say hello and say that our new loan is "official" as of today. In the end we borrowed 31K at 4.3% for 7 years (84 months). It consolidates the two rental loans (mortgage and reno loan) as well as a 1.8K loan.
Our monthly payments for those three loans will go from 841e to 445e, ie a difference of 396e per month. I'm hoping to pay off that rental before seven years though.
ETA: In other news, DH has three or four surgeries for his hand this school year; the first one was yesterday. So I still need to be somewhat available for that. I was offered yet more hours at my main job which I accepted. However, I gave up 1.5 of my five "third jobs" instead. It's easier for me to do more hours in the same place instead of running around. Plus, my main job has the shortest commute.
Financially it would have been nice to do it all but it just isn't feasible. I will probably try to pick up another private student or two in Jan (after DH recoups from his second surgery in Nov). Also, one (maybe two) of my classes finishes in Dec so I should have more time next semester.
Hugs and best wishes to all of you! I hope you are all doing well (and getting debt-free much faster than I am)!

el1504- How did your interview go? ZSdebt- You’ve paid off 44% of your debt – that’s fantastic! Idawngirl- Awesome update! debthaven- I hope things are going well with DH. I’m glad the refi went through. What a difference in your monthly payment. Sounds much more manageable. Things with me are going well. I'm down to my last debt in race #2. I'd love to be able to say I'm going to win my race by the end of the year, but I just don't think its going to happen. I'm still very happy with the progress I'm making. After I win this race, I'll be back for race #3 anyway. I'm still posting weekly challenges on the Midwest board. This past week was budgets. What kind of shape is yours in?

10/17/2012 $39,706.99It's hard to admit I've gotten to the point of needing to be here, but here I am. I used to get such praise about how good I am with money, I can only guess that I became cocky and let my guard slip. Boy did it ever slip! I am a single mom of an amazing 8 year old daughter, and I also have to help my mom out financially. She lives in my basement apartment at a very reduced rental rate (less than half of what the market value is). I also pay some of her bills that she doesn't realize. Some would say to stop, but based on her health issues and her own money situation, I won't. If that means I pay for cable that I don't use, well, then I pay for cable that I don't use. I have decided not to race my mortgage, but will only do my consumer debt. So, here goes nothing! I am looking forward to holding myself accountable to you and I hope you all can help in my journey. I figure it will take 3-4 years before I get it all paid off. That honestly worries me, because in this time frame I also want to put new windows in my house and do some more traveling with my daughter. Oh, how to balance it all?? The table is confusing me, any help there would be appreciated My debt breakdown in order of tackling: CC #1 - $125 (0%) - Will be paid off the beginning of November CC #2 - $650.76 (18.99%) - Will be paid off the end of November LoC - $29,111.23 (8.38%) - This includes two vehicles and a tent trailer paid by the LoC CC #3 - $9,820 (0.99%) - This is an introductory rate. After 10 months it goes to 11.99%. I plan on focusing on the LoC then when the interest rate goes up transferring the balance to it. I know that will raise my LoC again, but it makes sense to take advantage of the interest rate. Wish me luck!!

UPDATE 10/18/2012 $39,431.99 (10/17/2012 $39,706.99, I49)
Well, looks like I am just going to write and pretend people are listening. Due to some 'found' money I was able to put an extra $275 on CC 2 today. The found money came from being on equalized electrical billing payments and being in a credit position at cycle's end. I took the money that would have gone to my power bill and put it straight on my debt. Next month there should be another $100 as well!

akagrace: Congrats on making your first payment. People are listening. Our international board is the one with the smallest membership, though, so sometimes there isn't anyone around to see posts right away. Welcome to WIR. Take a look around and hopefully you'll find yourself at home here. Most of us are having to balance things and know that sometimes, debt payoff can't be our only or even our top priority. I don't think anyone here is going to tell you to kick your mom out or charge her more money. If you do want help with your budget, post it, and we'll do our best to provide helpful advice, but only you can decide if you want to follow it or not. If you could post your country, that will be helpful to the captains that run the international thread. And in two weeks when I update the 25-50k thread, we'll officially welcome you there, too.

akagrace- Welcome! We're here, and we're listening. I swear! Learning to balance everything is something a lot of racers struggle with. But you'll hear lots of great tips on these boards, for setting up automatic savings, setting up an emergency fund, etc. If you have any specific questions, just ask. We're excited to celebrate your first couple 0's next month! Happy racing!!
