I called our bank earlier this week to get overdraft adding to our chequing account. I hope to never need it, but I have found that with the house stuff, a lot of our bills are automatic withdrawals from chequing, versus credit card, so I need to make sure the money is in there and this is my safety net in case I miscalculate something during the first few months.
But anyway, while I was getting that approved, the lady from the bank said I had been pre-approved for an increase to my Visa. Normally I would just say no thanks, but since they have the low interest balance transfers, I immediately said yes and then did another balance transfer to pay off more of the Mastercard. I'm still waiting for some money to come back to us for various deposits and what not, but I'm hoping that everything will soon be settled and I can post an update. But right now, the majority of the debt has been moved to the Visa with 1.99% interest and we've paid off over $2,500 already! Once the Mcard debt is totally done I will be happy camper!

Non-racing debt is $3181. Its about $1000 more than it should be due to a forsean but not prepared for emergency. Oh well it will all be paid off at the end of AUgust hopefully.

Idawn-that is awesome that you were able to take advantage of the low interest with the balance transfer! Congratulations on the new house, btw! It sounds like things are going great!
Z's-congratulations on the new house to you as well!! I remember the combined nausea and excitement of moving. It's amazing to own your own house but crazy when you think of the responsibility and signing your name on the line!
DebtH-I am glad to hear that things are working out work-wise. It's great that all things are coming together and you are doing so well with getting things paid down. Those mortgages will be gone in no time!
Chef-how are things going for you?
Things have been ok-ish here. Our savings isn't what I would like it to be but that means we have to stop spending on other things! Just bought a new laptop and printer as well as a battery for this older laptop. (sigh) I did think about it for weeks, literally, before I agreed to the new computer. We have moved some deposits around so less is going into general savings and more is going to designated savings for house improvement and vacation fund. I tried to just keep skimming off the top of our income without reducing the savings but kept having to transfer money back out of savings to cover general chequing. meh. Too stressful.
I did get some shitty news a month ago. They are displacing me in my job. I am currently in a 0.75 FTE (3/4 time) position and they are reducing mine and one other person's job to 1/2 time and combining the 2. We know that it has been done before and it didn't work but they don't seem to care. I waffle between completely upset, anxious and panicked and zen-thinking "who knows what this will open for me". Mostly I am in the first insanity. I know they will offer me the full time position that they are making but to be honest, I don't want it. I can't give enough to my unit as it is now let alone having to split my focus between 2 units. I couldn't stand the stress nor could I stand feeling like a failure when I couldn't do what I think needs to be done. So... back to my old job and shift work. (sigh) (oh, this doesn't happen until next April 1 so I have some time)

Chef I'm so sorry about your leg ... I had no idea. You have had a rough year! The 90% recuperation on your hand is great, you worked very hard for that and you should be very proud. For some reason I thought your hand accident was much longer ago ... I had no idea it was the same month as DH's, I'm SO sorry. Frankly I feel badly, I had no idea your hand accident was recent too. I hope your leg heals quickly and you can satisfy that craving! Hugs to you friend and thank you for your support. Idawn Great news on the BT! El The end of August is just around the corner ... FFBC I'm sorry about that jobs news. BUT ... April is still a long way away. Although you are a planner (like I am), a lot can happen between now and then; so try not to sweat it. I went to the bank to pull out some savings ... and found out that I had put them into a blocked account. Hah! I will probably try to refi the rentals again, this time with another bank, but only after we get back. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Ok, I'm back again. I have been busy, busy, busy. Haying is done, plus bought some from a neighbour who is selling his ranch. When we hay, we mow with a brush mower, rake with the hayrake then rake it into piles by hand. Then use quad and trailer to pick it up and put in barn. I think it's about 2-3 acres we do. The kids help too. Then off to weeding the garden, now have to pick peas and freeze them. Good news is I found an apple tree that is good for eating and cooking for $44.99- 15% off.( kind of planned for,not saved for) The poor thing had a rough ride home in my Jeep patriot but it is loaded with apples for it's first crop. So mainly catching up on laundry and all the neglected yard work. I also (not planned) found me a ride on lawn mower for 150.00, spent 130.00 on repairs on credit card via ebay. Bought the parts from the States, the price we paid for the 2 new parts plus shipping was the price for one in Sears without shipping included. So the lawns take 1 day instead of 3-4 days. ;D I have been sewing my youngest's summer wardrobe, I make it and she basically wears it the next day. So here is my update: Credit Union $5,000.00 CIBC PLC $5,771.00 M/Card $3,657.69 TOTAL $14,428.69 alicesfreedom 07/26/2012 $14,428.69 (9/2/2009 $24,275.73 I226,IPT4) I have a refund check coming in at the end of the month and that has been assigned to the credit card and bonus is August has 3 pay days so credit card should pretty much be gone. Not as good as I would like but that's the way things go. I also need to go through all my school supply stash and figure out what all I need to buy. I know for sure the youngest has very little to buy because the school is way over stocked with supplies for when they were selling the kids their supply list. . Not sure for the high schooler. School clothes not really needed except maybe new socks and need 1 backpack. I have shoes for the kids. Big stash of new ones for youngest, oldest shoes hardly wore. Had to buy new ones for hubby, bought my own for mothers day. So school should be really cheap deal. ;D Plus oldest DD birthday just wants an ITUNES card and money, need to replace her phone, cheaply. Well off to start laundry, again.

I forgot to mention that my chickens (that I got free) are paying for themselves. I sell their eggs, about 4 dozen at a time to our little store for 3.50 a carton. So that pays for their feed, which is about 12-13 dollars a bag. ;D My hubby thinks some of my ideas are weird but they pay off in the end. Sometimes for the good.

Hopefully your house is in a better condition than ours!! I'm still struggling with looking for a new job. It seems like I've applied to 100's of jobs however I don't get a call back. I also take the time to tailor my resume as best as I can based on job description so I'm not just blindly applying.. just frustrating as I've been looking for a little over a year now.

How is everyone? We have been very quite lately.
Don't know about you all but with winter here DH and I have just been focused on getting through. I walk the dog every morning at 6am and it has been very hard the last couple of months to get up and walk in the dark and cold. BUT summer is on its way and with it the warmth and the sunlight.
I haven't been having a great time at work so have been looking for another (comparable) position but there aren't many going at the moment. It weird because I am one of those people who likes their jobs so the fact that I am not wanting to go to work each morning is hard. DH doesn't like his job and can't understand why I bring home work with me and am willing to work really long hours so I think he quite enjoying that I am not so focused on it.
DH- I ready your post on YM. I'm so glad you are having a great time.

ldawngirl: 08/14/2012, $5,205 (07/11/2012, $8,328.57, IU48)
VISA (1.9% balance transfer until April 30, 2013) - $3,857 Mastercard (18.99% interest) - $1,348
$3,123.57 paid
Wow! A nice amount paid in a month! I felt like the Mastercard was only going down because of the balance transfers to the VISA, but we have made some good progress.
I have been doing a lot of freelance the past couple of months, which should pay off the Mastercard once the cheques come in.

Hi to all! We are back from an incredible, fantastic vacation. It was amazing, especially Crater Lake. I feel blessed that we finally took DS3 there. Unfortunately I lost my bag in CA and it is going to be hell to get all the paperwork done (I spent all of today trying). It's a real Catch-22, they won't issue my driver's license or my car registration till I get my "Green Card" paperwork done, but I can't do that till 13 September. (My "Green Card" expires on 13 Dec, and I can only file for a renewal as of 13 Sept.) I decided there was no point filing for a replacement card for less than 3 weeks, but I don't need to tell you, it's stressful. I have the requisite police reports on lost paperwork so I'm "legal" for everything, but it makes more sense to wait and file for the renewal which I can only file for on 13 Sept. I also lost 500e, BIG OUCH, that was the week of hotels for the road trip. Plus a ton of other things. I kept hoping somebody would take the cash and return the bag, but no. So as you can imagine, our finances are rather a mess. I'm going to be trying to straighten things out (probably by using some savings). We also came home to a tax bill, and we had an expensive repair on the newest rental while we were gone. We were lucky we could handle it from NY, but the repair wasn't cheap. DH was a total star, he had an unexpected windfall the day before we left and he was incredibly generous with it. Also, I talked a lot about money with my sister and she pointed out that while we are definitely "house poor" now, it IS temporary, and we need to just keep keeping on for another 3.5 years till we pay off the most expensive rental. She also pointed out that although we ARE overextended for our rentals, in a worst-case scenario, we could sell the cheapest one, pay everything off, and be totally debt free. So I'm trying to change my mindset (and DH's ...) and not stress out so much. So between the paperwork (which I can't actually do anything about yet), the finances, and working FT as of next week, plus SIX PT jobs that come and go, I don't think I will be on here as much. I know I will still read here and post, but I want to try to redirect my energy into MAKING more money rather than just TALKING about it. I've been talking about money here for over five years, it's time I started making some LOL. I also want to quit smoking by the end of the year, which would make things much easier financially. Also, everything is relative. I lost my handbag, my close friend who is exactly my age just lost her husband in tragic circumstances. The one-year anniversary of DH's accident is on Sat, so I want to try to re-direct my energy into making more money, and moving "onwards and upwards". Hugs and best to all of you!

Weekly challenges:I've started posting weekly challenges on the Midwest board. I try to post them Monday afternoon-ish. They've been great at starting some conversations and getting people talking again. If you guys are interested, I can post them here as well, or you can check out the Midwest board and respond (either here or there). Let me know what you think.
