Thank you all! But, it was pretty hardcore. The conversation lasted for an hour and a quarter. If you ask for something, it means you get grilled, and complimented, and criticized. I wanted her help so I basically just took it all in and kept my mouth closed.

DH, sometimes we just need to bite our tongues and let it go. I think it makes us a better person in the long run.

DH2007 - This may be personal and if so, feel free to tell me to mind my own business. As you've been talking about DD and her future, you've mentioned that your ex-MIL and ex have been (seemingly) happy to help out your DS 1 & 2 with college, but you were unsure if they would do the same for DD. Is there a reason why they wouldn't give DD the same as what your DSs got? To me, it would only seem fair to give each grandchild or child the same. You briefly touched upon your ex not being close with DD, but are the grandparents in the same boat?
Congrats on getting something from them! If your ex comes back and wants to take away CS, I would definitely mention that DD is staying at home and saving a lot of money on room and board and travel expenses. You have every right to that CS, so don't let him make you feel bad! Not only should be be paying CS, but he should be helping with school regardless. It just seems in this case, his parents are helping HIM out. Just my two cents, for what they're worth. Obviously I don't know the history or all the details.

Happy and Healthy New Year to all of you and yours!
In good news, our 41K loan for the new rental was finally approved on Friday. We'll sign them tomorrow and drop them off at the bank. Now that we're in January we should get a call in the next week or so to set up a date for closing on the rental sale.
Z's what amazing progress in just a year! Wow!
Writer it's the final countdown!!!

I made it! Took a bit to figure this out, like how to post. I am not very tech savy, but finally figured out to use the 'reply' button. I posted one final update on the other board and will post it here once I figure out the excel feature. Just wanted to give one huge CONGRATS to ffinbc. You have come so far in such a short time. When you shared how you did it, I realized what discipline and hard work it took. Thanks for sharing and inspiring us to reach our goals as well.

Moody -- and anyone else A poster named LoveToBike was kind enough to design a excel file with all the html codes already included. I've reworked it into a template for your (pl) perusal. Just plop your own information into the "names" and "amounts" cells. Don't mess with the "tr" and "td" codes, though. To include the chart in your reply just copy and paste the whole chart into the body of your message, like this: Loan | Starting | Current | Paid Off | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Name | $10,000 | $9,000 | $1,000 | Total | $130,000 | $117,000 | $13,000 | |
I'm attaching the file in a separate post. Good luck!

I hope people don't mind, but I ported my last post on the msn site over here...
mamceach-thanks so much! How did I do it? Well, #1 with everyone's support here. Other things included-making my own laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent, bread, treats, taco seasonings, pizza etc. I try to generally make everything we eat from scratch, limit eating out and make a menu plans every week. I even buy dried beans, make huge batches and freeze them in can sized amounts. I shop only to the menu plan. When there are bones in the meat, I boil the bones and make stock. We try to eat all leftovers and make soup frequently. We don't buy lunch stuff, generally, we take leftovers from the night before. We have cut back entertainment severely, I have to admit, using only our satellite dish/tv and the occasional movie out (like every 4 months or so). We make our own wine as well. We will be getting rid of the satellite very soon as well. We bought a media server and 2-1 TB external hard drives so that we can stream videos etc online and have it go straight to our tv. Most if not all of the shows we watch are available online. It cost us as much as 2 months of satellite service and hopefully we will spend less time watching tv and more time moving our butts so we can lose some weight! I worked extra and DH got some clients in the studio (not many but a few, which helps). We REALLY focused on wants vs needs. This one was tough for us since we always "need" something. I am proud to say we have been talking about a big screen tv for 1 1/2 years and have been content with our smaller one and when it died, gratefully accepted one exactly like it from friends for free. We have stopped buying DVD's and going to movies. We watch what we have with the odd exception of getting something through pay per view. I have been relying on friends for book hand-me-downs. I re-read and re-listen to books I already have. I have put off buying clothes until I am pretty much desperate as has DH. Let's just say we have some interesting underwear and my runners show my socks through the baby toe area. I have cut back travel to the point where I am only going for pleasure maybe 2ce a year to camping trips with friends. No more running around the country, playing. We use wood heat and I turn off all the lights whenever I can. I could do better with unplugging things but I do admit to sucking at that. We have put pretty much all available funds toward the debt. We have also moved it from account to account depending on our interest rate offers. I had a car loan that was 8.??% that I moved to our LOC that was 4.85%. Visa sends me low/no interest cheques so we would transfer the balance over there for the length of the term and then back to the LOC if we didn't get another Visa offer. I think that pretty much sums it up! Yogini-great job!!!! You won't be here until you die.. you are getting there and you have already brought your goal date forward. Hang in there!

LoveToBike & Writer88,
Wow! Just used the template provided. Thanks so much for making it up and posting it. It is very user friendly and functions very much like an excel table. You can do all the same calculations and formatting. Add rows or columns; just make sure the td/tr are left in place, as they provide the code to make the columns, rows and borders for the table. It actually presents better than I thought it would. I am very impressed. Anyway, this is my latest update. Last one for 2010. I reached the 8,000 pd, which was my goal. Unfortunately, my savings took a big hit to reach that. I now will have to do a budget and plan how to build that up again. And I still have some major adjustments to do for my income tax, with most of the windfall from that going to pay down debt and purchase a new van (mine is on its last legs).
All the best to all of you on the site. I will try to do more later.

Writer I have a crazy busy week this week (both semesters overlap this week, what a silly system) plus writing up finals. I'm teaching all day tomorrow. But I wouldn't miss your update for the world!!! What day of the week is it? I'm thinking Wednesday (the 5th) but I'm not 100% sure. I hope so because that's the only day I'm not teaching! So I can open the Champagne early LOL!
My friend that I co-teach the night class with called me today, she offered me another private student and a monthly translation via another former colleague. I was literally walking out the door when she called so I'll get more info tomorrow but both of those gigs sound perfect! And I've been asked to replace one of my colleagues for three extra hours next month. She's the one who travels a lot for conferences so I hope there will be more where that came from!
If this all works out (it's still early days, I have no details) it means I will have picked up two more hours of private students to replace the three hours I lost at the primary school, plus what seems to be a steady (monthly) translation job. I still need more work but I am getting there!

I knew something like this would happen, DH. ...and yes, you guessed correctly. Tomorrow, January 5th, is the big day.

Don't forget, Israel's between 3 and 10 hours ahead of most of you ladies! So, when I send in my ultimate update on 5th January, it'll be "today" for me but still "tomorrow" for you all!

Administrative update! Hey everyone! I'm sorry that I have been out of the loop so much during this transition. I was scheduled to be out of town where I knew I would have no internet, and then I came home to no internet either. A snow plow took out a pole and the temp connection was spotty for a day or two, but now appears to be back up and running. Emails - I have received tons of email addresses, and I am updating the regional sheets with them now that I have internet access again. ProBoards - I am guessing that we will be here for a little while (at least a few months, probably thorugh the summer). I am looking for a more permanent home for the Racers, one that will suit all of our needs, and also be a place where we can grow and expand! Please forward any ideas you might have for me to my email: cgwirr at gmail dot com. I know that we have PM here on the new boards, BUT it's easier for me if I keep everything in one place. Smiley Faces - since I have not been able to spend time on proboards yet, I asked all the lovely volunteers to begin studying how we can work on this site, I should be catching up with them soon. We'll figure it out! Updates - Please put your updates in these threads for the time being, and hopefully by next week we'll have "permanent" proboards WIRR threads that will be a bit more organized. Again, I'm sorry that this all happened as I was getting ready to go out of town, but we had a great response and will be able to work here for a while! Thanks for all the patience and understanding!~CG
