Woot, under $90,000. Paid down by 1.2% this time, which would bring the amount of time to pay off 4.3 years if I could keep that up. Grr, still can't wait until the PLUS loan is out from under us. In reality, it may already be paid off because she had been paying extra on it, so I haven't had an updated number from MIL for a while. I want to pay as much of that PLUS loan she'll allow us to. Next month it looks like I will only be able to put $200 extra towards loans, I wasn't working a lot in May and we had to pay taxes, so that was less money to carry over. MuffyintheRed: Congratulations on hitting the $50,000 mark! I hope you get good news from your husband's exam. Sparks: Nice update. Just be sure you pay that transfer off before the 15 months are up. So many people get caught in that trap. Good luck selling that trailer, it will definitely help. Tulip: Woohoo for your new zero! It looks lovely on you. Out of curiosity are you saving up for Christmas over this year so it doesn't come as a "surprise"? Bramoney: Keep on trucking! It will take a while to get used to the new social security check. It's good that your DH will continue doing contract work, always gotta keep a man busy. Pay-no-Interest: Nice update! I passed you up, finally. Congrats on the updated look of the kitchen, even if it's not completed yet. And only for $500, which is awesome. I hope the rest of your summer goes well. Nice to see you 3jsmom! Forwardwego: Hope you can get your computer to get faster. How old is it? My personal laptop is like 7 years old and can't survive without being plugged in. Poor thing. trojen3: Congrats on maxing out your retirement for the year! Only halfway in, that is awesome. Watch out SL2! And congrats at almost being at 60%! speechchick: Yay, another month staying under the original balance! Sad that there is no shopping in your town, but I guess that could be a good thing. There is always shopping online. Hope you can keep sane this summer. Thanks for the update!

Hola WIRRs
speechchick I should have been more clear on my last update, that was an increase in my race amount too so should now be $38780 as my total I am racing. Thanks Redracerris The computer is 8-9 years old, and to top off the increasing sluggishness, we "caught" something called the "moneypak" virus which is a new version of a not-so-new scam. Locked the computer up. DD's friend who works for HP tried to remove it, but no luck. So had a company wipe the computer clean, and now I have no programs which isn't a big deal, only ever used word processing a little, mostly just internet access, but that was $100 expense hadn't planned on . Well 29 minutes til 5:00 and I'm gonna call that close enough. Keep up the good work ladies

hey WIRR South!! whatcha doin? well, we have moved & i turned in my keys to the old place on monday. now is the unpacking/re-packing so-totally-NOT-fun part. i say "re-packing" because we are in a rental that i really like but know that it will only last 1 year, 2 if we're lucky. the owners bought the house for their daughter in advance of her moving to houston. so they had to rent it for at least a year & she isn't supposed to be here for 2 years. but i'm going to take advantage of this move to clean out & garage sale/craigslist as much as possible. i didn't realize how much stuff i had accumulated after 5 years in the same place. so reorganizing & really considering what i want to haul with me again in 1-2 years is a strong motivator to sell it all. we are in a place that feels double the size of the apartment & i'm already dreaming of a much smaller place next round. anyway, all the costs associated with the move & some physical therapy expenses during the last 2 months added up & i got a bit over my budget. even though i have the money in savings to pay it all off, i never seem to replace savings as fast as i use it. & since i'm still trying to save to buy next time, i decided to use a balance transfer & pay it off over the course of the next year. i haven't run my numbers for a month or 2 so i don't know if it means an increase from where i was or not. i'll post my numbers for july 1 - that will give time for the transfers to go through. i hope to be back soon for shout-outs.

I transferred several balances to DH's Discover for 24 months at 4.99%. I like the idea of not looking for a cheaper rate for 2 years and hoping I have it all (or most of it) before the promo rate expires in 2016. Redraceris: I do have a Christmas fund started for this year. Thank you so much for asking

Hi forward!! After I looked the other day at the commercial stove prices, I'll have to think about it. I would love one of the 36" 6 burners outfits, but my space may not be big enough without some changes. I looked on Craigslist and found some possibles, but they were pretty far away We are still scratching and pecking away here. How have you been? Sorry to hear about your computer woes. I have been having trouble starting this one, so it may be getting ready. It's like yours. Old, old, old, lol. Like my car, I'll drive it til the keys fall off (but I'm copying my pics and stuff). The new ones are so fast!!! And so very expensive!!! Great update, sparks. Did you get the car? Great job on your retirement savings, and for making so much progress, trojen3.Hi speech. Great update! We finished our old race if you can use the numbers, I'll post the last update I have. We may start another race, also. So what's this about no shopping? I live in a town with dollar stores and dollar stores only, lol. You get used to it, but we make expeditions to other places here and there to replenish Great paydown, redracerris! It's good to see the numbers shrink Hi muffy. Great update! With the many things you've paid outside of your race, you're doing a great job!! Congrats on the move, jdnstl. It's good to have to go through our stuff. We outgrow things and should let them go. I'm working on that process right now, but with so much going on, I've made a promise to myself to work on it everyday, even if it's just for a few minutes. Way to go, tulip!!! Nice paydown, and getting rid of so many smaller bills will save you stamps, or at least reduce the paperwork you have to look at every month.

Very ugly!! This is what happens when I slack from staying accountable & visiting you guys every month. I know that it's been one of those seasons but still. It's disappointing, but this is why I'm here. As long as I post my numbers here I stay on top of the expenses & don't let them get this out of hand. I NEED you guys if I'm ever going to be debt-free.
I did 2 balance transfers. CC6's 0% expires Jul 1 so I had to move that balance. I also had $1700 in total expenses on a card I'm not racing but I used to pay for PT & moving expenses over the course of April to June. I'm still re-working the budget with the new rent, electric, & fuel (longer commute) expenses. I've been blessed with no childcare expenses for the last 4 weeks as my mom was here for 2 weeks & my son has been with my nephew at my dad's for the last 2 weeks. He may be there this coming week too. I'm looking for another job with different hours, better commute, better pay...all of thee above. We'll see how it goes. Prayers appreciated friends.

So I just re-did my spreadsheets, and found that without any extra payments, everything could be paid off by January 2020. GROSS! That is six more years.I much rather like my percentage estimate of 4.3 years. I really want them gone sooner than that even. Granted, the SL 2 is on a 20 year repayment plan vs. the 10 year all of the federal ones are on. This just motivates me even more. However, good news is that the PLUS loan is paid off! WOOT! That is what made me decide to redo the spreadsheets. Basically I just did them on Google Docs instead of excel on my personal laptop. That way I could look/edit them anywhere. I'd have to look at the ones on the computer to see when the original payoff date was. Which I can't really see because I hadn't updated my excel files since 2013. But, I can tell that the original pay off date for SL 2 was going to be in 2027, so that's a relief. Sort of. I pay it off 7 years in advance. Whoop-dee-doo. It looks like I will be getting a raise in September, so that will help. I will not know how much until next week, when I meet with my manager for my year end review. September is also my busiest time, so the overtime helps a lot. Last year we had $3,000 left over at the end of the month. However, this year I will have to take into account our mortgage payment and having to pay for propane. That is an extra $550 a month. BUT, that would still leave us with an extra $2,450, which with our current system would get an extra $860 thrown towards loans. Grr, these calculations are making my head spin. If I put an extra $325 a month, which is what we averaged over the last 7 months, the loans will get paid off 7 months earlier - May 2019. If I could scrounge up $615 extra towards it per month, we could pay them off by July in 4 years. Of course, the interest rate is an average of all of the interest rates. I'm just so frustrated. I guess I forgot about the PFD's, but this year we've allocated that to a snow blower for our huge driveway. But in the coming years, I will put mine towards the loans. We have also reallocated the money for the summer and Hawaii to purchasing a new wood stove and pipe. Got the news that our chimney is a single walled pipe instead of double insulated/triple like it needs to be. The stove itself is not very efficient either so we decided to save on wood this coming winter, it would be worth it to buy a new stove as well. That means no trip to Hawaii for us, but heat is more important, that and no fire hazards. I guess I just need patience. I was looking at our tax returns from previous years and our income started at $18k in 2009 when we started paying DH's loans to $35k last year. I don't have the computer that has this year's tax return in front of me, I think it was around $40k. So the fact that we have paid off almost $60,000 in four years is quite a feat. So we have averaged paying off almost $15,000 a year. That is pretty damn awesome, considering our income. A lot of that was us living off base and using less than the allocated BAH. I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself. We are doing extremely well, a lot better than people who don't try to pay more than the minimum on their loans and only think "I can afford a monthly payment of $xx.xx" instead of saving up and paying for the item in full. I'm still frustrated that this is not going faster. I'd blame buying a house, but I love my house. It's perfect for us.

Good Morning WIRRs
Redracerris Hearty congratulations on conquering the PLUS loan!!! You have accomplished so much, especially good at stretching a modest income to make great strides. Try to be patient, it may not sound like it but Jan 2020 will be here soon, it's only 5.5 more years. And you're steadily snipping months off that projection anyway You'll have this zeroed before someone who goes out and buys a new car at a July 4th car sale today. You are in the midst of accomplishing an ambitious, awesome goal. And I'm so happy for you to have a great plan in place, your hubby in agreement, and living in a home that suits you so well. jdnstl We are here and you can do this. Even with the recent increase, you are so close. On a similar note, I feel that I'm kind of plateauing and doing 2 steps forward, 1 step back. Sometimes I wonder if I'm nervous to be out of debt, crazy . Does that make sense, do you ever think that? Would appreciate WIRR feedback. Nice progress tulip and trojen!
Keep fighting the good fight Muffy, I also want to get back to bigger paydowns.

Hey all. Sorry I've been a bit MIA. I noticed that the last update I did didn't have the correct smileys. I had such a hard time posting that night between a storm brewing outside and then this website going down briefly. And then I've been gone every weekend for the past 3 weeks so I haven't had a chance to update again. SO this weekend, Friday night will be the night! Get your updates in, one and all....including me!
With all the talk of cars: I bought a new one back in February. I went back to FL for the weekend and got down there on one tank of gas. There is NO WAY I could have ever done that in my Jeep. Last year I spent around $3k on gas. This year will likely be less than 1/2 of that. CRAZY. Between no repairs (which I needed a few expensive ones on the Jeep) and cheaper gas, the new car was worth it even though I have a car payment again.
With this travel job, I really upped my contribution to my 401k and I'm really feeling it in the paycheck. I'm making it work, obviously, but I'm not paying things down like I was just a couple months ago. I was checking out my pay stub today and saw that between taxes, insurance, and 401k, I'm get just under $1k taken out of my paycheck. Ouch.
Anyway, good to see numbers! JDNSTL: come back to us and keep yourself on track! 3jsmom: yes! Post your numbers! It goes toward our goal and then everyone will be more likely to see that you conquered your debt! Ris: Yes, those spreadsheets can drive you nuts. You're doing great though and it's good how you can see how a little more each month shaves time off the total amount. sparks, trojen, dimples, muffy, tulip: everyone is looking good!
Like I said, update to be done on Friday so keep the numbers coming!

good morning WIRRs!! i'm trying to make better use of my free time at work so i'm reading more articles. here's a great one to get our minds thinking to end the second half of the year better than the first half: www.businessinsider.com/rich-people-daily-habits-2014-6. it's titled "9 Things Rich People Do Differently Every Day." after you read the article, please share if you agree with the 9 statements & what you'd like to change. i'll go first.... 1. "I focus on my goals every day." No. I tend to lose sight of my goals when I don't meet them. This is particularly the case in my battle in weight loss. I wrote down goals with specific dates but once I got derailed I didn't get back on. I stay 'unfocused' for days or weeks at a time. I can also see how losing focus on how much money have in the bank made me lose track of how much debt i was adding on during the move. This is one I know I can do and need to always do. 2. "I maintain a daily to-do list." No. This is something so small & simple yet I don't do it. I'm going to start this & I think it will help me with #1. 3. "I watch TV one hour or less per day." Before the last 3 weeks Yes, during the last 3 weeks, No. I've been exhausted & burned out & still overwhelmed so I haven't wanted to do anything but veg in front of the TV. 4. "I love reading." YES!! 5. "I listen to audio books during the commute to work." No. of course if my commute stays this long i'll have to do this. for now i listen to my christian radio station & it helps me keep calm & the road rage at bay. 6. "I do more than my job requires." Sometimes. At my previous job I did all the time. At this job, not so much. I'm micro-managed & I don't feel there is a point for me to do anything as decisions are never really made based on the work i do. 7. "I play the lottery regularly." No. Sometimes I wish I did but I just can't seem to 8. "I count calories every day." No. Definitely need to do. 9. "I floss every day." Only the 2 weeks before going to the dentist....such a sad state I'm in.

fowardwego - yes, it is comforting knowing i'm not alone. well, really, if you think about it several of the habits are inter-related. just look at the first 3. making a to-do list will keep you focused and so busy you don't have time to waste watching TV. keeping focused & busy can keep you going physically & being in better health will naturally flow from that. it's good food for thought and to help us evaluate our habits & decide if we want to change. i hope it challenges others like it did me.

ATTENTION CAPTAINS:
Muffyinthe Red 07/16/2014 $78,277.91 (9/9/08 $128,662.37 S373, SU395, PRO 77, 81, 86, 137) NC Paid off since joining $50,384.46 Percentage: 39.1% Paid this month: $117.34 Medical Bills $304.51 -59.00 = $245.51 CU Savings - $1,400.11 down $320.00
Another not great month. My savings went down over $300 to pay for a new windshield for my car that got cracked when we drove to Delaware. I guess I will have to get more Swagbuck points so I can put more money in my savings!
I have a CC that I am not racing that should be paid off with the Sept. payment and I can then put that $100 towards the medical bills to get them paid off before we have more in Aug. Husband has to have more biopsy and then possible surgery. At least Duke Hospital takes payments. But want things in better shape in case DH decides to retire at the end of the year from his current job. He will have to have another job lined up though, in order to pay these off or we will have to declare bankruptcy.
Everyone looks like they are making great progress on their debt. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the words of encouragement from Forward. Sometimes it just seems like this will never end!

Update: $9,710.00 (7/20/2007 $33441 N321) Greeting WIRR, Well, lets get it started, DH did receive his first SS Check, yea! So had some funds to work with, this month. The CCCS is moving right along, still not enought monies to do this but........working with what we have.
I am realizing how I dislike being so responsibible for everybody and it seems like everything, it seems like my DH is so disconnected. I just feel like I am by myself in all of this, which I know I am not. Anyway....I believe it will all work itself out. Working out and keeping it moving helps a lot.
Shout Outs to everybody for staying strong in your battle to reduce your debt!

Muffy: your updates are always solid. I hope everyone is having a great summer. Please let me know if something looks "off". I'm sorry for the delay in getting this out. My weekends have been sucked up in a whirlwind of short weekend trips. Back to school shopping is just around the corner. Do your states have tax free periods to buy supplies? Have you parents saved money? Has anyone checked out the link that jdnstl posted? Good points to consider. Keep up the good work everyone. These were great paydowns. We have a very solid group of 12 of us who are working hard to shrink their numbers. We didn't make our $5million goal so I extended it out to the end of the year. Let's try to make it!

It's been a rough couple weeks for me. I have had some random big expenses come up that has dug into any big paydown. And then to make matters worse, my last day is Wednesday and I don't have a job lined up. It's been a little stressful but something will happen.
So I'm still in SC for the next week and then I don't know where I'm going. My time here has been marred by one unpleasant co-worker but the rest have been great. I really won't miss the town when I leave here and doubt I'll ever find my way back in this direction.
It's hard to believe it's mid-July already: I don't know where this year is going! I thought if I buckled down, I'd be paid down by the end of this summer but unless I come into some money, it's not going to happen. That's ok...the debt is disappearing, slowly, and eventually it will be gone. I'll end up doing some balance transfers which will help. I'm still enjoying the new car even if it means I have a car payment. I just keep saying my mantra: I'll all work out!

More progress on the debt front . My EVB Loan only went up b/c I paid it later and didn't pay as much to it as I usually do so there was more interest to pay down. I'll try and get it paid earlier this month so I can actually get principle paid down and not just have an interest payment. I sent $86 to my escrow account to keep my mortgage payment the same and it actually went down from 517.34 to 516.82. I always pay $520 so that will be an extra 52 cents a month on principle.

Oh man, so close to $60k paid off. I'll get there in August. You pretty much have the down low from my previous post. It is nice to finally have a couple of zeros on the main table, and $155 snowball. I realized that all of the amounts in SL 4 didn't add up to the $37+k that was in that column. I realized it was from when I did the direct consolidation, so that is what the Old SL 1 is. That is the amount that was paid off before I consolidated. I also added a column for the total amount I have paid to keep me motivated. 4-G should be knocked out in three or so months. Next month is going to be the minimum payments, so Pay-No will have the opportunity to catch up to me a little. Forwardwego: At least you had that $100 instead of going without a computer. Viruses are a PITA. Thanks for the shout out. Muffyinthered: Just remember that you are still going in the right direction. Even if you're treading water, you're not drowning. Think of this as a resting period. Eventually you will be able to ramp up the pay downs again. It is difficult to not see the amount going down very fast (I can relate from a year or so ago), just keep on plugging along. Good luck with DH's health. You can do this, avoid bankruptcy at all costs. jdnstl: Congratulations on the move. It sounds like you have a good plan to pay off the expenses. How's the job search going? Tulip: Yay for another $1300 in debt gone and yay for having a Christmas fund! And yay for $1700 more gone. Great job! 3jsmom: Thanks for the shout out! Dimplesnlj: Great pay down! Sparks: Nice pay down, and congratulations on the new to you car! Speechchick: Ouch is right - $1k taken out of each paycheck, yowza! I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. Just keep your chin up and things will work out. Hopefully you'll line up a new job soon. Thanks for the updates! Trojen: You are KILLING that debt. Do you realize you have paid over $6,000 since your last update? Great job!!! Pay-No-Interest: This next month is going to be minimum payments because last month there was no extra money, so that means no extra money for two months. The only reason that this month was so huge was because MIL told me that she made the last payment, so I don't have to make any more payments to her. If you can keep up the $1300 pay-offs, you'll keep up with me. Bramoney: I can relate to feeling like DH is disconnected from all of the responsibilities. It has gotten better over the years as I have kind of forced there to be communication between us, especially money. You are right, everything will work itself out.

Consolidation of the WIRR Boards Just wanted to let people know that we’re planning to consolidate the WIRR regions into a single group/thread. This will help facilitate more discussion & accountability, and the updates. I’m not sure when this will happen, but it should be sometime in the near future. More to come!
In the meantime, I need the captain(s) from each region to contact me, and to send me their current spreadsheet so we can start consolidating them into one. minnesotagirl7_wirr@hotmail.com
