Hi Everyone! Sorry for the late post. We have been so busy lately and I just completely forgot. I am planning on posting every two weeks now that my DH gets paid every two weeks. So I will be posting again next Tuesday. He is contract and they closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Years Eve and New Years Day and both of those weeks will be on the next paycheck so it will be much smaller than usual. But after that we should be back to the normal checks again. They are really wanting him to go offshore in the next month or so and when that happens his checks will be much more because he gets a higher hourly rate and more hours. So there is good and bad that he will have to be away. But when he gets back he will have time off that we get to spend together so that is pretty amazing. We made a huge decision last month and I quit my job. He is making so much more money and will be making even more when he travels that it afforded me the luxury of not having to work and deal with my horrid commute and childish coworkers. I have been miserable the last two years since they moved our office and then hired this real biotch from another department who has made my life miserable. She flat out told me that she wanted her friend in my position so they could work together so she was trying to get me to quit. She told me that over a year ago when I called her out on why she was treating me the way she was. She enlisted her friends in the building to help her out too. Have you seen the movie Mean Girls? I have been living it! I made it my mission to not give her the satisfaction but when my DH got this job and he is literally making 3 times what he was making and was telling me to just quit my job if I wanted to it was so tempting. I absolutely love it and I am so thankful to my DH for this opportunity. He can't believe the transformation in me and how much happier I am. I honestly don't remember ever being happier than I am right now. I was able to spend the holiday break with my kids for the first time ever. I am jump starting the new year with a weight loss program and daily exercise routine and am so excited about getting healthy. I am thinking about starting back to college to get my degree next fall. I think this is going to be our best year to date. Welcome MarionTh230 & Sparks! I lurked for awhile before jumping in myself and I am so glad I did. It helps keep you accountable for your finances. I just joined weight watchers to keep me accountable for my weight. I have always thought of WIRR as my weight watchers for my finances. Have a great day!

Thank you everyone for the welcomes! I am so excited to be in this group again paying off debt. My boyfriend and I started the 52 week money challenge this week so I am super excited about that as well.
DeepInTx that was a great update! I am so happy that you got out of that terrible situation. Listening to your story reminded me of high school. I guess some people never grow up and unfortunately it is every where you go. I have a couple of coworkers like that but I just keep busy and keep to myself.
Anyways, looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Update: Trojen3 - 1/7/14: $49,381.31 (8/24/12: $99,479.89)
Name of Debt | Current Debt | Starting Debt | Total Paid | % Paid | Car Loan | $0 | $2,201.08 | $2,201.08 | 100% | SL #1 - Sallie Mae | $0 | $1,491.42 | $1,491.42 | 100% | SL #2 - Grad PLUS | $26,583.18 | $46, 338.33 | $19,755.15 | 42.63% | SL #3 - Grad PLUS | $22,798.13 | $28,852.49 | $6,054.36 | 20.98% | SL #4 - Private | $0 | $20,596.57 | $20,596.57 | 100% | Total | $49,381.31 | $99,479.89 | $50,098.58 | 50.36% |
Well.... Was hoping for an extra payment to get over the 50% mark before 1/1/14, but it didn't happen. This isn't too bad though! Excited to finally reach that milestone. It will be just minimum payments for a while, until the IRA contributions are maxed out. Hopefully taxes will be easy on us and I can take a big chunk out of SL #2...
Welcome to new members MarionTh230 and Sparks 2710! I hope y'all find the motivation you need from this board to help demolish your debt!

Thanks for the shout outs Forward and Sparks! It is amazing how much less stress I have now not having to deal with my former coworker and her friends. I tried to keep to myself as much as I could but she was pretty confrontational and her friends were harsh. I got to the point where I didn't know who I could trust at work anymore. Unfortunately one of her mean friends was the HR person so I didn't feel like I had anywhere to go. She was also a huge flirt with our boss and so again not sure it would do any good to go to him about the situation. He wouldn't even post my job or interview anyone within the company and hired my coworker's friend based on her recommendation even though she had previously been fired from the company and was supposedly not eligible for rehire. I guess different rules for different people. She didn't have any experience with the job and other people had so much more and weren't even given a chance. I think what bothered me the most is that she was doing this all this time like it was a big game. I really needed my job and had to maintain our benefits because my husband used to work for a very small company that didn't provide benefits and we have a son with bipolar that has to maintain his very expensive medication. She just thought she could mess with me until I quit and could care less about the consequences. She knew about my son's situation and knew I needed the benefits and was spiteful enough to still treat me the way she did. I never stuck up for myself when I could have told her off but I tried to keep it professional and I think when she blasted me I was just in shock of the things she was saying I didn't have a comeback. I just became a recluse in my office and worked all the time while she played her games. Thank goodness my DH got this new job that has benefits as well and it opened things up for me to leave. I had been looking for another job but was concerned about getting time off a new job to take my son to his regular doctor and therapy appointments. That was one thing the job had was flexibility and I really needed that. Now I have it all and am so happy not to be seeing those people on a daily basis. I really hope that karma comes around and bites them on the butt! They shouldn't be messing with peoples lives like that. I had been there 8-1/2 years and so it was hard to leave that time but it felt amazing leaving for the last time. That is one thing that getting debt free allows you. If we hadn't won our first and second race I wouldn't have been able to do this. I am super confident that we are going to be able to finish this third race in the next couple of months and we are going to have a great year. Sorry I got long winded there. It just feels good to talk to someone (besides my DH) about all of this. I hope that those of you that are dealing with coworkers like this that you are able to find a way to fix the problem so it doesn't cause you stress. Life is too short and we shouldn't waste our time being miserable by people like that. OMG Trojen! What an amazing race you have going! $50k paid off in less than 18 months is amazing! You reached two milestones with the 50% paid off and over $50k paid off. Happy Racing!

Deepintx: It's sort of funny thinking about my own experience and then also your name.... As I was reading your story, I thought, "I know I've had a similar experience but where?" Obviously my experience was so bad that I actually deleted it out of my mind! I had a horrible time in....get this...TEXAS...DEEP in TEXAS, no less! Way down in Harlingen. My co-workers were so mean (others on here might remember some of my stories) that when it was Christmastime we were closing the office early for a party. I didn't know anything about it until that day (I was a traveler but had been there for about 6 weeks at that point) and when I mentioned about the office closing early they said, "You can just go home, you're not invited". That was for the big party with both offices. A week or so later, my particular office all went out for lunch together and they told me the same thing. In fact, they told me I couldn't bill for it because it was just an extended lunch but I told them I was entitled to it because they didn't give more than 2 weeks notice about the change in the schedule. I gave them that option or the option to have someone leave the lunch early to let me back in the building. They ended up letting me bill. Oh, there was so much more. The happiest day was when I got "fired" one week early. I got called back in to complete my paperwork (which was already completed and filed) and got to tell them "Because you called me back in (although there is nothing that I need to do because I'm a good employee and got it all done), I can bill for this time and because you canceled my contract, I get to charge YOU for the last 1.5 weeks that I won't be here...and you don't get any of my work/billing". I practically danced out of that place. I totally understand how you might feel about a hostile workplace.
I get an other paycheck on Thursday and I can't wait to add a little more toward the debt reduction. I don't think I"m to the point of a smiley yet but it could be close! I need to start beefing up my savings too because I didn't pay any taxes for almost all of 2013 so I'll have a bill to pay in a couple months. If I don't have a smiley with this paycheck, definitely for the next one!

Hi Speechchick!
I am so sorry you were treated so horribly by your former coworkers! That just makes me sick when I hear stories like that. What is wrong with people? Why can't we be nice to each other. It seems like it has become so clickish and if you aren't in the right click then they think they can treat you like dirt. On the day before Thanksgiving I was working and I noticed I hadn't heard anyone talking outside my office for awhile. They had been playing all day and giggling in the halls. It was a really busy day for me with our month end billing closeout. I went downstairs to check my mail and I noticed I didn't see anyone in the halls or anywhere I went. I went to the receptionist desk and she was gone and the front door was locked. They had closed the office early and nobody had told me. They normally make an announcement over the intercom or send out an email or something. They didn't do any of that and nobody bothered to come by to tell me (including my boss who was there that day) let alone to wish me a Happy Thanksgiving. I was definitely not feeling the love there. I am so much better off away from that place.
It looks like things are looking up for you and that you will get back on track very soon. You can and will get this debt knocked out! It is going to be a great 2014.

DeepinTx I ask myself the same question all the time (why can't we be nice to each other). I work in a clickish environment. I was never the type to kiss ass or be fake. I am who I am and I am comfortable in my own skin. The girls I work with on night shift are very clickish. When its someone's birthday they plan a party and bring food and cake and the whole works. My birthday just recently passed and I had to work that day. On day shift everyone wished me a happy birthday and bought a cake. I didn't get not ONE single happy birthday from anyone on the night shift. Not one! (and they knew it was my birthday because they saw the cake and it was on facebook). Now if it was one of their birthdays you can bet the others would have went all out. I have been at the same place 7 years. I at least expected a happy birthday.
I am the type of person and have always been the type of person to include those that are often left out. I am nice to everyone I come into contact with. My motto is everyone is fighting their own battle. A smile and hello can go a long way.
Anyways, thanks for the vent!

Ick. That's not pretty. Maybe the next update will be better. UGH! That was posted almost one year ago today and if I remember correctly, those zeros were basically a money shuffle so I really did not make any headway at all. What it came down to was less bills to pay. 2013 was the worst year, financially, since probably 1996 and back then my expenses were a lot less. BUT, I am getting paychecks that can really start making a dent in things and I already have money in savings. I like having that cushion! I am almost out of my apartment in Orlando and once that happens, I think all the weight will be lifted off my shoulders. I hate going out there, I hate that I still HAVE to go out there, and I just want that chapter of my book to be closed; it's all one big area of stress. Seriously, every time I go there, it's like having my heart broken all over again. So, here is my newest update. I'll be updating the whole board next weekend so if you want some numbers included, post this week! If not, no worries, we'll catch you on the next round. Have a great weekend everyone! I had gotten some gifts from family I hadn't planned on so I felt obligated to send them something. I consolidated my Discover Old and Visa Old to Members Own CU. I still have a few areas in the budget to iron out..but all in all not too bad of an update .

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
I did go ahead and download YNAB. And I really like it. It is much easier to customize things than other budgeting softwares that I have tried. I am most definitely "frittering" money away in some categories. Now that I can see it, I can reign some of that in and send it towards the debt. I am excited to see how January ends up. That will give me a good eye opener so I can set up some tighter spending goals going forward.
Looking to post an update closer to the end of the month. Other than that, still just working the plan.
Good luck racing everybody!

Hey everyone. No update today as I want to save that for my upcoming anniversary but I wanted to post as it appears that it has been long enough since my last post that my name is now appearing in bold in the list! The upcoming update should be a good one. Looking forward to celebrating my WIRRniversary with more debt paydown. Happy New Year everyone.

I've been rounding up my payments and using the round up money towards the Christmas loan and Bank CC. I can't wait until Tax season starts on Jan 31. I'm hoping for a return this year so I can tackle a couple of the smaller debts and pad savings and add to the emergency fund.

Life is ridiculously busy right now...new course prep and they take a lot of time to do them right the first time around. Even then I'll have to make adjustments before I teach it again next year...that is if I get the teaching assignment again. Basically my life has been boiled down to work, going to the gym 3-4x a week, work, eating, sleeping and work. Ugh.
Update: $97,500

So not all the payments have hit the accounts yet but I couldn't wait! For my second WIRRniversary I have paid off over $120K in debt. I'm so excited. My goal for 2014 is to get the car loan and CC#1 completely paid off which will free up a good bit of my cash flow. I will then be down to just SLs that currently have low interest rates. Loans # 1, 3, 4 and 5 are all variable so those interest rates will start going up once the fed starts raising rates so that's where I will be focusing after that. I can't believe my debt load is almost half of what it was just two years ago. Thank you all for keeping me on track. Posting these updates is really helpful in showing me how far I have come. Here's hoping 2014 is just as succesful on the debt payoff front.

Balance on Discover # 1 went up. That is because I have a recurring monthly auto pay for my satellite bill on there. Every month I pay the satellite bill plus the minimum monthly payment. That has already been scheduled to pay, so the increase on that one has more to do with the timing of my update. Car loan for January was already paid when I posted my start numbers. Car loan for February has already been mailed. That will go down further once the payment is credited. I need to make more progress on Discover # 2 to get it paid before the 0% runs out. I've been budgeting and sticking to it. I should have extra dollars left over at the end of January to throw at that balance. I am going to adjust some budget categories down in February so that I can throw even more at that balance next month. Overall, I'm sticking to the plan. It's a bit of a slow start, but that's ok. It's only a matter of time before I get to where I'm going.

This is not moving as fast as it used to move. I have to figure out where the money is going and rein it in.
Welcome to all the newest members. You will love it here.
I just got a letter over the weekend that I owe the Social Security Administration over $2200. When I was a kid, I received Social Security as a child survivor of my father's. One year I had 5 jobs and made over the $2100 that was allowed and I didn't report that I was no longer going to school. I was a bad girl. But the last time I heard from Social Security was 30 YEARS AGO! Now all of a sudden they want their money and I am going to be applying for Social Security retirement funds later this year. So I have to pay up or they will take it out of my Social Security and any tax refund I might have coming. So I guess I will put it on a charge card. I have some 0% interest checks but have to pay a 4% fee or I can just pay the regular interest rate and pay no fee. Which do you think is a good idea? And do I just add this to the total that I started with since it isn't a small amount? Once I start getting Social Security, I will be using it to pay down debt faster and get the totals down much faster.
DeepinTX - I know how you feel. I have had 2 jobs like that. I don't work right now and luckily my DH has a good enough job that I can stay home. Of course, it would help if I could earn some money to help with debit repayment. I do earn some money from home by doing Swag Bucks. I earned enough to pay a big chunk of our hotel bill when we travelled to WI for the holidays. Now I am saving for Grandkids birthday gifts and son's birthday. I love earning the Amazon giftcards.
Happy New Year to everyone and here is hoping 2014 is a great debt reduction year!!
