Yay Speech! So glad you are going home for the winter and get to spend some quality time with friends and family. Best of all you get to knock out your debt and have a clean slate. Speaking of clean slate, where are you? We miss you! Love the song forwardwego! Thanks for stopping by seahorse! I enjoy reading the progress and chatter on the midwest board too! You are rocking your races!

Another slow month. Trying to save some money for holiday trip back to WI. Congratulations Goal of Zero and DeepinTx. Someday I hope to be there and hopefully before I am 70!!!!
Welcome GeorgiaMama this is a great place to get rid of debt and welcome back for race #3 DeepinTX. That is totally weird that you win and we congratulate you and welcome you back in one post!
Has everyone made a Christmas budget? We are lowering our spending on gifts because we will be paying for hotels for 2 weeks and the charges for boarding a large dog for that time too. So as soon as I get wishlists I will be able to better figure out who gets what and how much it will cost.
Have a great weekend!

Hi everyone.
I'm new and hoping that I can do this correctly. I'm wanting to pay off my debt. It's all credit cards and I'm bad about spending though I try not to be. Currently I'm only able to pay minimums due to my work cutting my hours. Don't know why. They're hired more people but claimed no one would get cut hours, but I've only 25 next week and not my usual 35-40! But here goes.
10/20/13 Reward Zone - $392.77 Best Buy - $57.70 Credit One - $482.75 Citi - $1986.04 Capital One - $577.28 Paypal - $3675.41 Discover - $1790.09 Amazon - $913.86
Total - $9875.90
I've been wanting to snowball, but with my hours it's almost impossible. I don't have an emergency fund because there barely is anything left after paying the bills! And with Christmas coming up...I'm not sure what I'll do.
Edit: I'm doing it wrong, so here goes the correct way.

Woohoo, almost at 30%. Also, we almost have another mini-loan paid off, only $312 to pay it off. I am back to paying off $1,000 a month. We are almost under $100,000 including the PLUS loan that I am not racing. DH just got another pay raise, which will take effect by November. Our EF is up to $2,000 again, and I am over halfway to the saving of $1,500 so I do not have to work this summer. I have cut our phone bill by at least $25 a month ($300 per year) by cutting off a data package because with my work phone, I do not need a smart phone. So everything is doing pretty well. We will need to get two new tires for DH's car and fix the pin in the steering column, but we should have enough to take care of that. Everything is going well! Welcome BlueOwl! The first thing to help curb your spending is cut up the cards that are not absolutely needed. Honestly, I would say all of them. That way you cannot spend more than you make. If you must, get a second job so that you can save up $1,000. I follow Dave Ramsey, and these are the basic baby steps: 1) Save up $1,000 while paying minimum payments on everything. 2) Debt snowball, starting with the smallest (with the idea that a small, quick win will give you encouragement to keep it going). So, sell things, get a second job, anything you can to make more money. The most important thing is to NOT put any more money on those credit cards, that is why it is recommended that you cut up the cards so there is no temptation. Hope that helps.

Hi Everyone!
Well we are hoarding money for the next couple months because my husband just accepted a new job and we want to have extra in the account through the transition until we know when and what his checks will be like. We are super excited about this job though and I think he will be able to make alot more money and have alot more job security. He is giving a month's notice so he won't be starting his new job until December 1st so we probably won't start really racing again until after the first of the year.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

BUDGETING IS ESSENTIAL to win the debt race.

welcome aboard debtvctm
It's good to see you. It was helpful for me also to break the debt into manageable sections. The boards have been kind of quiet lately, but please feel free to ask questions or post as often as you'd like. We're all in this together and want to see each other get out of debt. So what's your plan other than breaking it down into phases? Also, our captains need to know which state you live in . You are in the right place for ditching debt and you can do it!!

Update: 11/07/13 $9,955.00 (7/20/07 $33,441.00 N3848) Greeting WIRR;
Howdy racers and racing fans! The tracks look dry and the cars are ready to go ready, so let’s run this race!!! Let’s end this year with a big bang! Mind will be more like a Turkey Trott, but a race is a race, right? The house is getting a little more work on it, the sub-floors are being put in by my husband and younger son. Yea! I hope they get the cabinets put up in the kitchen by this weekend along with the bathroom tub enclosure and tile floors one more extra person this week to help. That would make me happy, happy (Duck Dynasty) ha, ha! I will be working on putting the covers on the electrical wall plugs and light fixtures switches. Well, that’s all for now, not really but that my story and I am sticking with it! Till “Debt do us part”, later. Forwardwego: Great update, congratulations on being under $12K…..the race is on! Deepintx: Great update! Jdnstl: Great Update! Your trip update, sounds like you had a really good time! Debtvctm: Welcome to the race!

wow - i'm such a slacker! three winners, you guys are astounding! congrats to everyone nasagreen 11/8/2013 $77,272.42 (7/21/07 $144,371.69)That is a difference of -$1,997.39 since my August update. Sorry I'm soooo late! We were really bad in October, went on a "babymoon" trip to St. Augustine with our toddler to have one last three-person family experience before the baby comes and the holidays hit. It was worth it. But of course our credit cards are still really hurting us. It is hard being in the phase where you are paying more down on loans than on credit cards. We are 46.5% paid off. I cannot wait to see 50% After 6 years, it will really be worth it. I hope the other 50% doesn't take 6 more years i'm still here...38 weeks preggo and tired as all heck. speechchick is taking over for me as the main captain for a while so my slacking doesn't effect the updates! But I do have some big news!! PAID OFF THE TRUCK! - The payment each month was $735.68 so this is really really really exciting. So happy I did it before December as well, which means I kept to my original plan.

Thank you Bramoney and ForwardweGo welcoming me in here. I am going to be reporting in from Kentucky, Fort Knox to be specific. My plan is to pay off the Chase cards simultaneously and put a little over the minimum monthly into the third card. I can't sleep good with all this debt. I really need to get a handle on my finances. Anyways, I plan to put down more than two thousand into the two chase cards this month. I have some savings I've been hanging on to while my cards went over the limit and my minimum for the two chase cards together are more than $2,000. This is really freaking me out. Ladies please do pray that I can get out of this mess. Thank you very much. I am so thankful to have found this board. Just what I need right now. All the pay downs I read in the threads give me hope.

Thanks for the shoutout debtvctm, and nice first paydown 4 U---> over 9% yahoo!!! It's gonna feel so good when you reach your next mini goal of getting that card under the limit. You know one of the harder things is adding it up and looking at the numbers, but after a few updates you'll begin to feel better. The debt $$ gets smaller, the paid $$ gets bigger. Each update shifts you more and more into control. (BTW Do you have an emergency fund?, It will help insure that your "paydowns stay down"). Will be back a little later to send some more well-deserved shoutouts
