I agree it is very slow around here. Everything is going very slow here. With DD#1 in college my racing is slow too. However, I can't complain because my total is going down. My real crutch is my consumer debit. Some of it is from repairs to DH's big truck but still. I hate it, and I can't really pay it down until we get rid of my car payment of $735 and DH's big truck payment of $1247. We have about 14 payments left. I thought about getting rid of my Suburban but I only owe $11K on it and I can't find anything as useful for less. My plan is to keep it pay it off and drive it, because at that time DD#2 will almost be ready to drive and I am going to buy something small and cheap with some awesome gas mileage to share with her. DH big truck is business but he needs to save his payment money for repairs. I did think about refinancing the amount for a smaller payment bu that only extends the payment plan. We did get a refund but I am going to have to pay back the loan I took out to replace the upstairs AC and get new tires and fix the pool. Goal. By March 22 (first day of spring) I will be below $75 K!! RED RUBY $76564.14 (1/21/2009 $163,872.74) S561

Yes, a bit too quiet... I had a long weekend, so visited my niece who's in college. You know what one of the predominant thoughts I had over the weekend was? I am so thankful that I paid off my ugly consumer debt (with the help and support of WIRR!), so now, a couple years later; I have enough banked in savings that a speeding ticket is a disappointing misfortune, and not something that will send me into a tailspin of panic. It also gives me the freedom to be _that_ Aunt -the one who can take her wonderful, hardworking niece out, and treat her to some new clothes and fun for a weekend. Those memories will always be there. Whether you're just getting started on your journey, or working your way through - keep at it! Looking back, I don't regret a single 'privation' I made along the way - the extra couponing, food adjustments, dropping the cable, getting the second job. It was all worth it. I don't coupon as much now, but I never did turn the cable back on or give up the second job. No, I'm still not where I want to be financially, and I have more work to do; but I am in a place where I'm not consumed with worry about money all the time, and let me tell you, it's a really great place to be - so keep on racing!! Love seeing that ZERO, DebtFreeRedux, and can't wait to see more from everyone else! You said it procras108r! Good to see you. It is a great feeling not to be consumed with that worry. We will all worry at sometime, but once we have everything under control, the money no longer controls us and it does not cause us as much worry. Speechchick said: I keep looking at the positives in my life. I've changed to a mainly vegan diet and that is making my shopping super easy (however, I have not lost any weight..strange). I am going to be getting organic produce delivered weekly so I'm excited about that. I have the best cat in the world. The weather has been warm. One of my best friends is having a baby next month. See? Focusing on those things.....good things... If my financial strife is the worst thing in my life, it's not that bad. Like I said, I've paid off bigger debts before. I'm missing some of our friends like elderkind and 3jsmom and suz and so many more. Come out and play, everyone! I hear you on the feeling like it is going so slow, but we are going in the right direction. Be careful about the vegan diet, it is difficult to get the calories you need. You also cannot get vitamin B12(that your body can process) from any vegetable source, so it is recommended that vegans take a B12 supplement, unless it is against what you believe. I think that a lot of vegans make the mistake of eating a lot of sugary things or processed food, but it sounds like you will actually be eating a lot of fresh veggies, so kudos! I find a vegetarian diet easier, with eggs, cheese/dairy/butter, and fish. Mainly because in Alaska I need the fat content since it is so cold. Good fat sources for vegans (because fat is needed) are olives, olive oil, avocados, macadamia nuts and other oily nuts. Sorry, off my nutritional soap box now. You have probably already done all of that research. Redruby I think that being under $75,000 is totally doable. It seems that a lot of us are having a slow time, but we ARE all headed in the right direction! Keep it up!

Muffy, congrats on the paydown, even if it is not that much, it is in the right direction. I am sorry to hear about your friends husband, I hope that he finds peace soon.
So, we just got good news. DH hours are being increased! It is very nice. Between $400-$600 each month.

I had to do a balance transfer for expiring promotions. That meantthe paydown didn’t move too much during February & I didn’t post an update.I had prepared an update for this month a week or so ago & was going topost that I took in a roommate to help loosen up the financial situation. Eventhough I wasn’t overspent each month, there wasn’t much wiggle room for anyemergencies. I thought it would mean that I could pay down debt faster &have more wiggle room. And if my roommate stays through the end of the year, I sawthe possibility of being consumer debt free before it ends. That was a veryexciting prospective after being here 5 years, well, 6 by the end of the year….Butthat was dampened this last Thursday when I found out that everyone at my companyis getting a cut in hours (to 32) & the corresponding 20% cut in pay.Although it is supposed to be temporary, who knows how long it will actuallylast. So now I see that taking in a roommate to pay half the rent will coverjust a little more than what is to be cut from my pay each month, which means I’llstill just barely make the budget each month. Considering the new circumstancesI used almost half my tax return to pay off CC5. I transferred a portion in Feb& paid off the rest. It wasn’t a big monthly payment but it’s one less debt& I can focus on finishing the car payment off in about 3 months and havean extra $300/month in the budget to split between snowball & savings.

jdnstl: I went back and saw that your January update was done on January 3rd. My update only covered from January 19th to January 26th. So I'm not sure who missed your update, but it's something that does happen from time to time. We're certainly not all perfect.
I went through and looked up the "code" for all of the smilies that we use. I will try to list them here and see how it goes lol. I will have to type out descriptions for them so that they show up as what we would actually need to type instead of just showing the picture.
Lightbulb is the word "lightbulb" with a dash before and after it. Smile is a colon and an ending parentheses. Grin is a semicolon and a capital D. Cool is an 8, a dash, and an ending parentheses. Wink smile is the word "wink2" with a dash before and after it. Party hat is the word "party" with a dash before and after it. Angel is the word "angel2" with a dash before and after it. Tongue out is the word "tongue2" with a dash before and after it. Kiss face is a colon, a dash, and an asterisk. Palm tree is the word "palm" with a dash before and after it.
I made a little cheat sheet for myself that I keep on my desk so I can quickly type in the faces. It works for me so that's what I recommend.

jdnstl: So sorry to hear about your job situation. A lot of companies are starting to cut hours because of the new healthcare system. I am glad that at least the roommate is taking care of what is lost on the job so that you can make it. It was probably a good idea to take out the rest of cc5 so you could snowball that. I think with perseverance you will be able to pay off your consumer debt by the end of the year.

This might be my last good update for a while. The week before my wedding I was laid-off with about 50% of my R & D colleagues. At least I won't have a lapse in health insurance.
We had a beautiful wedding and a nice trip to Disney for our honeymoon. Now it's time for me to hit the job trail and merge our financesand I'm working on cleaning the house too while I'm home.

pammy - thanks for writing out the codes of the smilies. that's alot to remember & i'm sure it will help others.
redracerris - thanks for the encouraging words. with so much 'stuff' going on the last few weeks i hadn't been on WIR other than to read. i had forgotten how helpful it is to be active here.
speech, dimples & carolina - good job, keep going. every little bit moves you closer to goal.
carolina - sorry about the job layoff. you're getting unemployment, right? didn't you pay cash for your wedding? if i remember correctly you did & i bet you're relieved that you didn't put everything on a credit card. i think another bright side is that you don't have consumer debt to worry about on top of a job loss. student loans can be put in deferment/forbearance due to job loss so if money got really tight you could put those payments on hold until you found a job. good luck on the job search.

Carolina: Congratulations on the marriage! Bummer about the job but jdnstl is correct, you seem to be in a pretty good place. I hope the job search isn't too long and you come out with something as good, if not better!
Yep, I just creeping along. I have to keep using that Visa on various things so I pay off some and then add some. I have another evaluation this week so if all of the kids show up that I've evaluated over the past 3 weeks, I should be adding about 4hrs/week to my schedule and that should help me start to make bigger payments on that Visa. Recently, I feel like everything in my life is just a joke: I laugh at my diet and workout, I laugh at my non-weight loss, I laugh at my paychecks, I laugh at my car (it's starting to give me some grief)... At least I'm keeping a sense of humor about it all!

Speechchick Just keep on keeping on. Even though you have to put some things on your Visa, you are generally going in the right direction. Chin up, you will see what you are supposed to do soon enough. I guess the reward of patience is patience, right?
dimplesnlj: Good to see you for your monthly update. I hope everything is going well for you.
CarolinaKat: Congratulations again! I agree that you seem to be in a good place with paying for most of your wedding in cash. Good luck with the job search and getting settled into your new life.
Good to see you again jdnstl!

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. While JDNSTL is correct and we have cash saved up for the wedding expenses, I was planning on cash-flowing it so I could leave the savings intact. I have a really bad habit on NOT spending savings even when they are designated for a specific event. Plus now that I am jobless, seeing savings go down is depressing.
I was technically 'unemployed' on monday, since they gave us 'two weeks notice,' which was paid out whether you were physically in the building or not. I only worked on one of those days to get everything closed out and then went on about wedding and then honeymoon stuff. Most people worked 2 days or so, the only one i'm aware of that went to work in the second week was a lab data management coordinator, and she had to close out/turn over hundreds of open cases to someone who wasn't in data management (entire sector was laid-off).
In good news, my old boss (internship) has a few openings in his section and I've applied to them and given him a heads-up. Hopefully he can help me get through. I'm also applying to another place that I know several of the people there. Biotech is a very small small world, for good or for bad. I've also been given access to a placement firm, and we'll see if they're helpful or not.

Carolinakat - Keeping my fingers crossed for you that a new job opportunity comes by quickly. Congrats on the wedding, too!
I started my new job full time this week and loving it. I have high hopes that the loans will start going to down much quicker. Originally wanted SL #4 paid off in June. Not sure that's going to happen now, but definitely want it gone by the end of summer. We'll see!

Sorry it has been so long guys! I've been a terrible captain these past months and it is really weighing on me. I promise I'll try to do better! I have been having problems viewing the boards from home and work so the updates are even more difficult. Luckily, today I can at least see the text on the screen. Gah! I'm so frustrated right now.
Apparently my student loan has been sold to a new company. I've had this experience before with my mortgage, but it was a fairly seamless transition. Multiple pieces of mail letting me know what was happening, how to access my new account, how to redirect my payments, etc. So, I fell like loan transfers are a routine enough thing that a lender should be able to manage it.
My old loan servicer just shows my account as paid off. They do not show any record of the $250 that they had just deducted from my checking account. And they did not show any signs of cancelling the payment I had scheduled for the 15th. It was only happenstance that I happened to discover they had closed my account.
The website shows no record of what happened - only that a $54k credit was applied to my account. When I finally get someone on the phone, they tell me that my loan has been sent to a new servicer.
Okay fine - how do I reach them? Why wasn't I notified of this? Grumble grumble grumble. Oh, don't worry ma'am, this is usually resolved within 4-6 weeks.
Call the new provider. They have no record of me in their system. Maybe in a few weeks.
Don't they know I'm in a race here? My next payment is scheduled for Friday. I need this fixed by Friday. Do you know how much interest accrues on a $54k loan in 4 weeks?

ffflex Great update! Hope the planning for your wedding is going well. trojen3You are doing awesome, you have paid off over $10,000 in less than a year, you go girl! Glad the new job is working out well. You will have that debt kicked to the curb in no time. classof2015Almost $1,000 in a month is pretty good. I used to be pulling that, but circumstances changed. If you keep this up you will be debt free in a little over a year. forwardwegoAre you going to put all of your extra money towards the dental bill that has 0% until Dec? I think that would be the best thing to do so you do not have to pay any interest. At least you did not put it on any credit cards, so you are still moving in the right direction. nasagreenAccording to my calculations based on the last amount you posted in October, you have been paying over $1,000 a month, WTG! We just need to get you updating every month . So quick update on me, DH has finally agreed to put more money towards debt, YAY! It is also spring break up here in Alaska, so I am taking this time to work on our business. Did the taxes on it, a whopping $300ish in profits last year. It will all go back into the business. No loans, we are building it up from ground zero. Check us out at jnlcreative.com . There are some resources that I am going take advantage of. Also, I am getting off my ass and have made a routine to follow on the weekdays that I am not substituting or photographing. It is working out well so far. Everyone is going in the right direction, good work!

Update: BraMoney $10,33.00 (7/20/07 $33,441.00 N3848) Greeting everyone, not sure what I did before but I was not able to post anything. I am sure it was user error. Well, lets see where do I start......DH has been release to return to work, I thought he was already, but was not case. I must not be talking to this man, or as he points out I don't be listening to him. I do listen, we are just on different pages all the time. I guess he has my atention, but he is just not talking what I want to hear, so maybe that is what the issue is, but we will not spend to much time on that. Went to court to day and they gave us another 30 days.........thank you for the many blessing. Work is going well for now, I had another BD. I enjoyed it very much, just a bless day for me. Friends and co-workers made my day. Well, I guess this is all for now, everyone stay blessed, it will all work out. It always does!
