I am seriously bored with couponing at the moment. I play around the internet on all the couponing sites throughout the day and evening, and can find nary a deal in sight! I thought it was me. ;D It is good that I really only do CVS though because their ECB's last a while. At least this way I can wait till I see something that would be a good roll. Or at least something I need like toilet paper. Maybe I am spoiled but some of the "deals" are just too rich for my taste lately. leanna / beachbum: I agree 100%. I look at my grocery store sales ads and am elated if I can find even ONE THING that I think is a good deal. Unfortunately as the stockpiles dwindle, we will all be forced to pay the higher prices. And even with EBs lasting 30 days, I am finding that the expiration date arrives way too fast because the great rolling opportunities are not what they once were. saveinla: Today I DID get a rain check for the Vlasic pickles @ $1/jar. I asked for the dill spears, but she was not specific when she wrote the rain check so I can get anything I need the next time a Vlasic coupon comes out!! Got to love it when they are a little lazy when writing those rain checks. ;D

For people looking to spend their ECBs, there is a schick/playtex razor deal at CVS next week- spend 20 get 10 ECB that may work out if you still have the 3$ FB or the 4$ MQs from the inserts a while ago. If the skintimate shave gel is included in the deal then the 1.50 SS Q would come in handy and we may break even. saveinla: Did you see that one on MFA? I thought about doing it, but (#1) I didn't get the Schick Qs ($4/1 6/12 SS) and (#2) it would would require more in OOP (when you add in the sales tax) for an item(s) that I don't really need. For someone who needs the items though, it could work out to be a pretty good deal.

frugalsuz: I was looking at your blog entry that lists the deals starting 7/24. It is amazing how few deals there are these days!! I am out of RA and WAGs and keep contemplating just cashing out at CVS, but then an item will come along that makes me happy that I'm holding EBs so I'm torn. I wonder if it would be worth it to hold on until BF. I am seriously bored with couponing at the moment. I play around the internet on all the couponing sites throughout the day and evening, and can find nary a deal in sight! leanna: I know. It kind of takes the wind our of your sails, doesn't it? I am having these huge mood swings when it comes to couponing (could have something to do with mentalpause ). I was happy to get the free Milka chocolate bars on Sunday. I wish I could have gotten something a little bit more nutritional for free, but hey, gotta have that chocolate every once in a while too. And free chocolate tastes sooooo much better. ;D And then I got the really cheap whole chickens today, so all in all considering how crappy things have been, I really shouldn't complain. We just all need to encourage one another to hang in there through these tough times and continue chatting up WHATEVER deals we CAN FIND. Summer is generally a slower season for deals, but this summer is unusually slower than normal.

I'm dwindling on my mayo & Miracle Whip & could kick myself for not getting more when they were on sale recently. I decided to put Hidden Valley ranch dressing on my sandwich today since I'm almost out of mayo. (I had bought the HV ranch dressing to make Dancin Mama's mac salad recipe, which was quite delicious.)
I know what you mean Dancin Mama - I peruse the ads, but very few great prices. Am planning to get Cherries at Fred Meyers tomorrow, if I am up to it. And nectarines are on sale Friday at Safeway. Nice job on getting the whole chickens?

Here is my plan Schick Extreme3 disposable (4 ct) - 2 * 9.29 - use 2 *3$ FB Q & 2*2$ CVS Q for schick disposables Schick Intimate shave gel - 1*2.49 - use 1.50 IPQ Pay 9.57 + tax and get back 10 ECB. Hopefully they will have a 4$/20 or something for next week that would lower the OOP. But even if not, I would buy these, since I can roll the ECBs for tax and my DH likes the Extreme3. ETA - maybe we can get the 5$/20 facial care Q on Saturday (it expires in 1 day) and it will be a MM.

I also don't need razors. the shaving cream isn't bad but that would require me buying a real lot of it and paying for most OOP plus tax. NJ also has a strange law that doens't allow ECB's or UP's to be used for milk either.

Often times it is hard to get the quantity of something just right. And we don't seem to be consistent in our usage of some things - mayo actually is one of them. I'll stockpile some and it will just sit there and then all of a sudden (for whatever reason) we'll go through it like crazy. I'm glad that you liked the macaroni salad. That reminds me that it's been a while since I've made one. I hate to burn DH out on making the same thing over and over. We just finished up a yummy pasta salad so I might go ahead and make a macaroni salad this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.

Leanna ,
If you like spicy foods and are going to buy the Mayo anyways, try the Kraft Sandwich shop mayo in the Chipotle flavor. I signed up for a sample once and that's the only mayo that we buy now. It's really yummy.

I've "measured" my usage by writing the start date on the mayo, but like you, I find that sometimes I/we use more or less.

My mom was saying that beef is going to go low, all the ranchers are selling off their cattle, but then to expect it to go high because there won't be as many cattle. I always stockpile my meat when it's rock bottom anyway. I guess it was on the news today.

I already have several packages of corned beef and beef fillets (in freezer burn resistant packaging) stockpiled, but have very little else. I'd like to stockpile some ground beef for meat loaf. Maybe it's time to go to Costco and get a few other cuts. The beef at Costco is not cheap, but is so much better (higher grade) that what I can get at the grocery store. I wish there was a way to get it at a low cost.

I used to have a website that you could look up local farms who sold directly. My family has done this for as long as I can remember. The quarter cow we got this year was 2.50/lb. That was total price cut, wrapped, frozen, etc. I can't even eat meat bought in the grocery store anymore. This meat is SO good. I think it's a great deal since you can barely buy ground beef for 2.50/lb anymore. We get a quarter cow and it usually lasts a whole year. It was a small quarter this year and total cost was $440. I split it with my BFF, so, I'll be interested to see how long it lasts. Our farmer butchers in the spring and fall, so, if I needed more, I could order another quarter in September, but I really doubt I will. Prior to what we got in April, our last quarter was from Sept of '09. I still had/have a few cuts left from that and am still using it and it's still fresh. I just grilled 2 T-bones from it this week. It's definitely looking into....

If it was prepackaged so that it was freezer burn resistant, I'd be tempted to look into it - although I must admit that we don't eat THAT many cuts because I'm not a huge fan of beef. DH will eat just about anything that is cow; but I figure if I'm going to eat the stuff, it had better be good so I stick to fillet, ribeye, skirt steak, brisket (corned beef) and then ground beef for burgers and meat loaf. Occasionally, I will buy a tougher cut if it is a steal at Safeway to throw in the crockpot with onions, carrots, and potatoes; but that is pretty rare. It sounds like what you get is top grade and that might make a HUGE difference for me in terms of enjoying the less desirable cuts. Other than what is mentioned above we tend to eat some pork (usually tenderloin and ribs), but usually mostly chicken and fish. If you think of the website or come across it again, I WOULD look into it IF the meat was packaged to prevent freezer burn and I could maybe get my sister to split a 1/4. Just cuz I cook it doesn't mean I have to eat it.

HOUND ALERT: EMERALD NUTS $1/1 or $1.50/2 (6/19 RP)
If anyone has any of these Emerald Nut coupons to spare that they won't be using I would appreciate any that can be spared. They coupons expire soon and I have a rain check for nuts.
I'd be more than happy to reciprocate if I have anything that you need. TIA ;D

That's weird because I tried to do it a week ago and they wouldn't let me. The cashier couldn't even explain why the UP wouldn't work she just said the computer says you don't have any merchandise to take off with it. The manager came over and said UP's can't be used on milk in NJ. I didn't ask at CVS because the manager seemed pretty sure of the law.

I'm not going out til I have to! If I have them, they're yours. The meat is packaged wrapped in plastic and then white freezer/butcher paper, other than the ground beef is in plastic "tubes". Have never had a problem with freezer burn. Like I said, I'm still using beef from Sept. of '09.

If so, you will not be able to use an Up. If you had multiple items, then the Up will attach itself to another item that is not milk and it should work.

Which was actually the point of buying it there in the first place so that is out now.

GDA:Actually, this is a good q alert! For you Safeway shoppers (probably all their affiliated stores), there is always a monthly 8.5x11 flyer/pamphlet thingee in the produce area. There are usually some good q's in there. You have to look for this thing because it is located in different areas of the produce dept. in the various stores. Like a treasure hunt: sometimes on a flat stand in the back of the dept; somtimes in a plexiglass holder attached to the fruit tables. Hope that makes sense. At any rate, the July one has a $2 off Fresh Express salad kit q inside! The q is for Safeway only but they usually have the kits on sale 2/$5. Two q's would make that 2/$1.

Two q's would make that 2/$1. murphath: I know EXACTLY what flyers you are talking about, but my store has not gotten them in in the last couple of months. I read about a coupon for some fruit leather two or three weeks back and keep checking for the pamphlet and nada. I'll continue to look though.

Wouldn't you know, that was the Sunday I only bought 1 paper. Will send it to you nonetheless. Let me know if you need anything else. Have my own Hound: WhoNu cookies $1/1 SS 7/10/11 I just saw a BOGO Q for WhoNu on coupons.com. Don't know if that'd be helpful or not. I don't remember what zip code it was. I saw it when looking for something else I saw on a blog. Try 90210 or 30303. leanna: I appreciate it, but please save your postage if all you have is one. The WhoNu cookies? They must be a new brand cuz I've never heard of them. Who carries them?

Well, I got up this morning, went on my mega walk, came home, showered, and called my fav butcher at Safeway. I told him that I had noticed yesterday evening that he had several chickens that were expiring today and asked him if he had put 50% off tags on them or if I had to wait until 4:00. He said that he'd tag them for me as soon as I got to the store. I bought (4) yesterday and (9) today for a total of (13) @ $.50/lb. I asked him about freezer burn and he said that they would last indefinitely in the package without any problem. I guess I bought that new freezer just in time. I have been able to almost fill it up with chicken, ribs, a ham, pork tenderloin, beef fillet, and bacon. Now if things really go tits up, we're good to go. If not, I have a freezer filled with REALLY CHEAP meat.

Awesome! Great find!!!
