plugginaway22 It's probably not an eagle, but the French equivalent pooped here on 9 Feb too. It was the first time for me too! I was so excited to get my first retirement payment LOL!

This morning I helped DH do his retirement request online. He told me he did it last month. Then he got an email saying if he didn't finish it soon, his info would be deleted and he'd have to start over. So we opened it together today ... turns out he completed step 1 out of 6. But now it's done!

Thinking of you TheOtherMe . DS1 + E left this morning to go skiing. They'll come again for a night on their way home next weekend. DS1's friends and their son also spent last night here, so today I washed their bedding and remade the bed. (DS1 would have done it but I didn't want to wait a week.) I was thrilled to see DS1 and E, but I could have lived without the 3 guests. (They were very nice, but who wants to wash extra bedding?) Laundry caught up now, dishwasher running. There's another strike next week, but I'm not supposed to be at school that day. (They're striking because the government wants to raise the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64.)

Then it will be our generation. It's very difficult when that happens TheOtherMe . DH still has his 90YO aunt left. She's the last one left.

I envy you bean29 ! I wish my DD would do the same (although all her Stuff is in her room). The wooden shoe rack by our front door broke last week. We'll replace it tomorrow. I didn't find anything better on Amazon so we'll just get the same one.

Good for you jerseygirl ! I wish ... DH refuses to get rid of ours. Happy you had fun snapdragon ! DH isn't doing great these days. Turns out he overdid it too soon after the surgery. After seeing the doctor today, he's back on painkillers and anti-inflammatory meds. I had to go to three pharmacies to find the anti-inflammatory meds. DS1 arrives with DGS tomorrow night, we're watching him Thurs and Fri while DS1 goes into the office. Of course we're very happy to see them, but the timing isn't ideal. Job 2 is off for three weeks so I have a very light schedule this week and next week.

Just to clarify, we do NOT have a built-in fire pit. DH's best friend brought his over for DH's 60th birthday party nearly 7 years ago because it was very cool that evening. We had never seen one before. DH loved it, so I got him one for his next birthday. I'm a bit of a pyromaniac so I love it lol. It's fun when friends come over, and it's useful for getting rid of boxes and papers. As a teacher I have quite a few papers to get rid of after every school year. This isn't the exact same one we have but it's very similar. I got ours from Amazon. www.therange.co.uk/outdoor-living/fire-pits-chimeneas-and-outdoor-heating/fire-pits/firepit-bowl/?position=7&s=16168#16168They accidentally included the grill with it, which I hadn't ordered. When I enquired about sending it back, they told me to just keep it. So ours also serves as a second BBQ. It's not an ideal BBQ because it's low, but it does come in handy sometimes!

They went on strike a few years ago too finnime ... DS3 was still in college then. I remember he told me they had prepared their classes in advance and they were still reachable by email if a student had a problem. I'm glad your DH can still enjoy his classes. The UK is a mess right now, between Brexit and inflation.

I'm so sorry about your aunt TheOtherMe . Do you have to travel far for the funeral? Another bad day of strikes planned for next Tuesday ... so we're allowed to be on Zoom again! This is TOTALLY unprecedented at Job 1. We have a new Head of Bachelor Programs, and he's much more easygoing about teaching online than his predecessor, since he taught there for 10 years before being promoted, including during Covid. This said, I don't want to be online every week, so I'm hoping the strikes stop, or at least that they switch up the strike days. If there are more Tuesday strikes after next week I'll ask to switch my class to another day that week. But for now I'm enjoying the break. We are encouraged to do hybrid classes, ie those who can get to school should. But once the students hear they're allowed to be online, the teacher is very often the only one at school! If they won't make the effort, why should I? Plus hybrid classes are horrible, I'd rather we all be on Zoom. There are also strikes in the gas refineries, so for the past few weeks I've been topping up my gas tank on my way home from Job 2 on Wednesdays, even if it's 3/4 full. The new car uses bioethanol, which isn't sold everywhere.

Good luck with the chores/errands Sharon ! Safe trip snapdragon ! finnime we had too many boxes too. I just had a fun hour burning a bunch in the fire pit . Do you have a fire pit? I didn't get the marking done today but we went to an appt, out to lunch, and then we stocked up on firewood.

swamp I would have said entitled witch, but that's par for the course at that age. She's old enough for you to remind her (nicely) that your Dad isn't as young as you or DH. Maybe remind her (again, nicely) how she could have chosen to spend that hour constructively (ie getting ahead on homework? Help her grandpa out with something? Maybe play a game with him? Dunno, whatever, besides being on her phone. And if she WAS on her phone, she probably would have done that at home anyway lol.) My DD is 30 and she still pitches the occasional hissy fit. (It's rare now, thank Gd!) PS It's great that your DD apologized!

I've decided to just keep tracking as I have been. I'll worry about it again once I pay my share of the windows/outdoor painting in April or May.
DH is happy to lay out the deposit to get things started, which gives me more time to save.
I also reached out to our credit union about a small loan, but they're not very reactive. To be clear, the loan would be for both of us.
Debthaven: 31 Jan 2023: 24,000 euros (Goal: 30,000)
I reposted my tagline because yesterday was the last day of the month.
I asked Job 1 for one or two more individual staff classes. I should hear about those later this week.

The cleaner came back today. It makes such a difference!
The second light is much brighter, but we need to see it when it's dark outside. The suspense ...
This week/weekend - haircut/Thurs - mark 4 papers
Job 2 is off for three weeks so I'm on a reduced schedule till March, but I'd like to get the marking out of the way.
PS The new light isn't quite as bright as the old halogen, but it's fine.

Our super-bright halogen floor lamp that lives in the dining room (where I work) died. We ordered an LED floor lamp on Amazon but it's not bright enough.
So we ordered another, brighter one. Hopefully that one will work. (We'll put the first one elsewhere.)

I have a question and would appreciate any input/suggestions.
I was hoping to have saved 30K by the end of 2023. (I've lowered my goal from 32K to 30K.) But we will be getting new windows and having the outside of the house repainted this spring. (Both are absolutely necessary. The house is already getting water damage.)
Obviously I won't have saved 30K by spring.
Once I've paid for my share of the windows, I will obviously have less in savings. My goal at that point will be to re-save part or all of what I spent on the windows. (I hope this makes sense.)
How do I track that? Should I just have two different goals, one at a time (ie goal 1 until the work is done, and Goal 2 afterwards)?

I'm glad you planned a break snapdragon. Window Man has come and gone. We forgot about one window (in DD's closet lol). He's also going to price solar shutters because that way we won't need an electrician. We should have the final final estimates next week. This is getting real!

There are massive strikes again today so we were allowed to teach on Zoom again. I'm getting spoiled lol. My cleaner was away last week. I'm glad she'll be back tomorrow. We've decided which window company we're going to use. He'll be here in a little while for some last questions/measurements.

Rukh O'Rorke now that the holidays are over I’d try to find another cleaner. That's a lot of money to be unsatisfied.

It's good to see you back here saveinla ! I hope the bathroom project goes well. startsmart a good homemade jar of jam also makes a very nice hostess/neighbor gift around here. We went to friends for dinner tonight ... that's three nights out in a row for me, ouch! But I've been home during the day, and Thursday night and tonight were very local. Nothing on the agenda for tomorrow besides laundry. DH wants to see the play again, I do not. Happily he can drive again.

Debthaven: 28 Jan 2022 24,000 euros (Goal: 30,000)Job 1 is giving out new individual Admin staff classes this week. I'll probably take 1 or 2 more. As DH said, it's the easiest way to earn more money for the windows. I work about 12 hours/week now, so 1 or 2 more hours won't kill me.

Yes bean29 welcome back! Good luck with your projects. Our troupe's play is this weekend, so we worked front of house tonight. Tomorrow will be a quiet day because DH needs to rest. He's been spending too much time standing up painting sets.
