I have all my bills on auto pay except the CCs. I want to verify before I issue a payment. I've done nothing but auto pay for close to 20 years and never had a problem....except the last credit card when I made a mistake and issued the same payment twice on the same day. For now, I'm just using the balance up little by little. But it was certainly MY mistake, not something that auto pay caused.

As usual, the widowed church ladies go out to lunch together after church. Today, instead of ordering a lunch meal costing $12 or more I ordered grilled cheese sandwich that came with potato chips. Grand total including tip, $7.
Yea me, and it's nice having a happy check book.

Today is day 3 of staying home. Plan on doing some laundry and maybe going through my soup recipes for this upcoming fall and winter. My plan is to buy needed ingredients little by little until October.

After my DH passed away and my house was 2 years old I had a well know HVAC company come out to give me a price to make a couple of changes. Let's see, I was told the AC and the gas furnace were not the same BTU sis, and that the duct work running through the attic was not the same size and the "not same size HVAC units). But that all could be fixed. The price for all this was $10K, and don't forget, all this was on a 2 year old house.
I even had a guy neighbor here and they still tried all this nonsense. I explained I was a widow and unable to pay such a cost and that I could heat and cool this house for a long time for $10K. However, my biggest problem is still the AC. Regardless of what the thermostat is set on, when using the AC it simply won't turn off.....it just runs and runs and runs. Getting completely fed up, I grabbed a little electric fan, put in on top of a small decorative box and aimed the air straight at the thermostat. Problem solved!!!!!!!! Fan comes out in the summer and is put in the closet during the winter.

I had lunch at the VA (free) came home and put the car in the garage. As usual, keeping the car in the garage I spend far less money. Since this is going to be a tight month, Not spending is the goal for the month.
I am buying gas today, Walmart has it @ $2.29 gal and using my WMT CC card I get a cash rebate each month.

I would get a second opinion before I did anything. BF and AC people are sometimes not to be trusted.

My YNAB budget is done for the first of the month. Since the error of over paying by a few hundred dollars my credit card bill, things will be a little tight this month. I'm saving the overpayment money to cover a trip to Nebraska soon if it ever stops raining and flooding.
That said. I WILL NOT take money from savings to pay for daily living expenses.

My spending has been under control, but unfortunately my brains and emotions have gone off the rails. Balancing on the rails has caused some BIG mistakes financially, so it's just a good thing that my checking account has a good end of month balance.
My Mom has been placed in hospice care (she is 99) and even though I knew it would be coming at some point, there was no way I was prepared emotionally for that. Add Memorial weekend and remembering my DH buried at a National Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska didn't help either. So for I've over paid CC by $451, and underpaid the exterminator by $47. And I made an error at the VA that I wish I could take back.
As the joke ays, sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield. For now, it feels like I'm both.

I hope so....it was fantastic in the Best Buy store. Can't wait for football season. The old TV was ok, but at 8-10 years old, this will be quite a difference.

My life is going well. Without needing an increase in my monthly income I have started tithing to my church. That was a huge step for me and convinced I'd be in the red sooner each month than later. I was wrong. I've also made a building fund pledge of $10/mo for the next 3 years. I may just write them one check for the total amount and be done with it however.
My YNAB is way in the green for this month so that make me happy. I've also purchased a new 55" Samsung QLED TV. That will be delivered and installed tomorrow morning. However, that will be my spending that is not budgeted for a long time.
Still no funds withdrawn from my investments, I just try to operate monthly on common sense and being cautious with the monthly income I do have. Seems to work for me.

I have used REITS , bonds and CDs for income. CDs allow you the choice of having interest payments going back into it, or taking the month,y interest payments instead.
REITS pay higher interest and dividends and you can also invest in Preferred REITS that pay even higher interest or dividends.

What is the purpose of the dog and how does it relate to VA? What is the connection? Is the dog supposed to be a comfort dog? I am a volunteer at the VA 2Xs per week. My plan was to be able to take the puppy to work with me and keep the little kennel under my desk, with frequent trips outside and time sitting on my lap. I have now changed my mind and decided my best option is to do nothing. My schedules are erratic, trips out of town with 3 other ladies frequently, and having a puppy/dog is not in my best interest....or the puppy for that matter. These past 3.5 years since DH passed away is the first time in my life I am responsible for no one but me, and frankly I like that way. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and for making this an interesting topic.

I plan on going to the breeder this week. We had a yorkie for many years but haven't had a pet in the last 20+ years. Our yorkie was borderline crazy, but just as funny as she could be. But for the most part, easy to train and house break, traveled in the car with ease. However the joy of her life was hearing a jet ski off in the distance at the marina....that required instantly getting on the swim platform and awaiting the arrive of said jet ski. No one ever disappointed her and they both enjoyed their ride out in the lake. She hated the life vest though and easily chewed through everyone of them.
btw: her name was Chelsie

Wow, didn't mean to open a can of worms here. I was hoping for more comments about the pictures of the puppies as which one ya'll think is the cutest.
Yes, I do have specific requirements, 5# or under to begin with. Poodles are very smart, not to certain on the multi-bred. As I said, I have the trainer picked out, and will work as necessary to get the little one trained. The VA frequently has dogs in the hospital and clinics. Many have on a fake "service dog" vests and more than once I've had troubles with dogs wanting to attack other dogs....service animal my foot..... pulling on leashes, bothering other patients, are all traits i won't tolerate, which mean I need to do my job when working with the trainer.
I've never liked big dogs, they are scary to me, so I'd never have one. I also don't want to run the risk getting one from a shelter that is guaranteed to be a little 5# or less that ends up at 10-15#......
Happy little dogs can be a pain, as are dogs that bark and jump on people....again, that just won't work for me.
So, if we could get back to my original intent, of the ones pictured which one is the cutest?

The breeder is local, so that price listed is not what I would pay. I've already talked to one of our local dog trainers, since this little puppy will come to work with me at the VA. So, manners are critical and excellent training is a must.
I don't believe one from a shelter would be my best option.

A few of us went to Mimi's Cafe after our spring choir performance yesterday. The corn chowder soup was a perfect way to end a wonderful afternoon.

Chiv, it looks yummy. Looked for something similar at Wmt this morning, but nothing. May check Amazon or try to find a recipe for it online.
Thanks.

I bought a 2 pc. chicken dinner from the grocery store yesterday afternoon. Their chicken is outstanding. I only ate 1/2 of everything so will remainder for dinner tonight.
I do need to make a run to the grocery store today before the rain sets in, veggies will be at the top of the list.

I bought thae 49" Samsung @ $799. Its a little smaller than my current one. BB will remove 2 TVs and 1 All in One computer so that will get them out of the garage. I also opted for the Geek Squad thing as they will repair anything even if it wasn't bought at BB.
I used my BB credit card and opted for the 12 month interest free plan. May as well use their money than mine. Delivery and installation is Friday 8AM - 12 noon.
I'm HAPPY.
on edit: the Samsung is one of the QLED. Picture is wonderful.

Yes, I was at Best Buy yesterday. The 55" I have now does overwhelm the great room, so the 49" would probably be perfect. The 49"is a QLED, price is $799 and truth be told, I really don't watch TV that much. A lot of it is done in the sunroom and at night the bedroom.
Definitely think less is more.......it always makes more sense when someone else says it rather than me thinking it. Going back to BB after exterminator leaves this AM.

I'm looking at Best Buy for a new Samsung. I have a 55" right now by LG, but it's old and seems to be having a few little issues.
The one I really like is $1300 but another is a 49" QLED for $799.

Tonight is 2 oz beef filet sautéed with some frozen onion along with red and green peppers. Maybe a fresh croissant to go along with it.
