"A conservative took help from Medicaid?" Usually they become the biggest whiners- Krickett fought it all the way.... Everyone has a breaking point. What amuses me is her reaction to the whole thing. Yeah, sure, she took a handout. Her learning should have been one of being humbled, to wish that everyone in need could get similar help. Instead she is railing against Obama's plan to provide similar care to everyone, including the working poor. Well, she's got hers, so why should anyone else. Very principled position there. ...and that's not what I heard...

...that everyone threatening us that the current systems in place must be improved with a new system is spinning... the sky is not falling with the current system... that she is proof positive that the current systems in place are working... ...she also feels horrible about having to take the handout... she's always been a producer... a giver... so becoming a taker in some way doesn't go down easily... ...that's part of what I heard...

But she is NOT proof positive that the current system is working, as she has no assets nor a job. If she did, she wouldn't qualify. Health Care Reform will allow the working poor to get the same healthcare that she just got. She is against that, which is mighty selfish. Weiner also feels horrible. So what? She took a handout, but wants to deny handouts to the working poor.

Virgil does not need you, Cotes.. But you need MedicAid and I am very proud of you for accepting handouts when necessary. That's precisely why we have social safety nets, to help people like you.

Lunacy, it's been tightened to /z{6,}|z{3,}\.{4,}/i
It's handled server-side. If you can think of something better, PM me. Regardless, if you want to continue on this arc, please do so with me via private correspondence. We've gummed up this thread enough already.

oh fcs Could we just be a modern country with a SYSTEM that doesn't require the working poor to lose all their assets to get care? Thanks... Not to mention costing twice as much for half the care, for the non rich. Stupid country.... ;D

If that's how you truly feel, why would you want your countrymen to be entitled to quality healthcare? Or are you actually from Warsaw?

It IS a handout if the person receiving it has called it a handout all his/her life.

Perhaps we should have a political test before giving Medicaid to folks. If you have badmouthed the social safety net and plan to continue to badmouth it, no Medicaid for you. Same for Medicare and Social Security. If you supported politicians who tied to gut it, you are no longer eligible for it. You shouldn't accept it anyway because of honor, but honor only goes so far, and society needs to help these folks stay firm.

I think many would take you up on that offer--with the proviso that if a person wasn't entitled to social services one wouldn't have to pay into them.
I've always fallen on the "too much welfare than too little" side of the spectrum. Most of the people I know who abuse the system have chronic mental illnesses and/or problems with addiction. They aren't 'employable' per se--at least not with the current rules on what employers are/aren't allowed to do. Unemployable people with nowhere to turn cause expensive problems. It's typically more cost effective to send them a monthly cheque to eke out an existence that way.
Using debt financing to support said safety net only compounds the problem. Either raise taxes to properly fund the programs or eliminate the programs. Purchasing social security on the national credit card is not an acceptable compromise.

Many will take me up on the offer I am sure but the moment they hit an emergency they will run to take shelter under the social safety net. Witness this thread, for example. Words are easy. Actions, well, are much harder.

You broke some bones and you waited one month before seeing a doctor? By now, the broken bones would have almost healed again and probably crooked.

See,that just proves healthcare is free and no one has to pay for it. Everyone in the US already has healthcare.

This is not the time to listen to Rush on radio and forgo Medicaid. There is absolutely no shame in receiving handouts. They are there because America is a civil society and likes to help the poor and the destitute, even though Republicans are trying hard to take that away. Keep that in mind when you vote in the next election - remember who fights for your rights to Medicaid.

Speaking of Medicaid, isn’t there some way of transferring bone from a politician’s head to his back.
