Are you saying there are no surgeries that cost over 20k with top of the line insurance? I am assuming that you know that for a fact. Yes that is exactly what I am saying - top of the line would mean something that is great. A top of the line insurance would not have an out-of-pocket of 20K. I have mid-level insurance at best & my max out-of-pocket is 4K for the entire family. I am sure there are insurances with 20K out-of-pocket maxes, but I certainly wouldn't consider those top of the line. My policy, billed as a top-of-the-line insurance by the state that I work for, had a stated annual out of pocket maximum of $2,500 per family. As anyone who's ever battled the insurance companies knows, that's a complete work of fiction because they can disallow just about anything they please. The doc ordered a pre-surgery MRI for my spouse. They covered the top 1/3 of the MRI and the bottom 1/3 - but claimed that the middle part was "experimental." Out of pocket cost to us was $2,500. That was just the beginning. In the end, we were out $20k. Not that if the insurance company HAD paid for that middle section, their cost would have been $650. They are a bunch of crooks. The whole thing is a scam.
