Palin’s flub is ammo By Jessica Fargen | Sunday, June 5, 2011 | www.bostonherald.com | U.S. Politics Photo by Patrick Whittemore The state Democratic Party is making hay with Sarah Palin’s nonsensical accounting of Paul Revere’s ride after the embarrassing comments the former vice presidential candidate made while on a tour of historic sites in Boston last week. “We applaud any attempts to encourage the tourism economy in Massachusetts. Sarah Palin just goes to show you that you don’t need to actually understand history to enjoy visiting historical sites,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party spokesman Kevin Franck. Palin, who visited the Old North Church last week on her East Coast tour of patriotic, historic sites, had this to say about Paul Revere’s ride: “He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and, uh, making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.” Palin is taking a break from her One Nation tour at her newly bought $1.7 million Arizona vacation home. Some have speculated that Palin bought the six-bedroom resort home to establish residency and run for the Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl. “That is not what my plan is here, no,” Palin told a reporter after arriving by plane at the house, according to CBS News Political Hotsheet. “I have not really considered that at all, but thanks for asking. You have great senators here, though.” Stiff as a Mitt? Rudy Giuliani, who was in New Hampshire this weekend, took a jab at Mitt Romney, questioning whether he can shake his stiff politician image. “The question for Mitt is, how good a retail campaigner is he?” Giuliani told Politico on Friday. “You have to be good with people and you have to be able to relate to them really well . . . part of the regret that I have (from the last race) is, I’m good at that. We ran as a presidential candidate last time instead of just a person trying to get votes.” Giuliani has not announced a candidacy for the 2012 nomination. Romney announced his candidacy for president Thursday, but it was overshadowed by the freak tornadoes in Massachusetts and Sarah Palin’s historic site tour in Boston and New Hampshire. Sen. pitches in U.S. Sen. Scott Brown traded a suit jacket for a red Salvation Army vest yesterday in Springfield, where he went door-to-door in tornado-ravaged neighborhoods. He also served hot breakfast to storm victims from the back of a truck and distributed meals to people’s homes. “We’ve all seen the pictures of the destruction on TV and in the paper, but I’ve got to tell you it is even more shocking in person. The scale of the damage is unimaginable,” Brown wrote on his blog at brownbrigade.ning.com. Brown, who visited Monson on Thursday and took a video of the destruction, urged people to donate to the Red Cross to help storm victims. Send tips to jfargen@bostonherald.com. P.I. How well do you know the story of Audie Murphy? Gregory Boyington? James Doolittle? Hawkeye Pierce? I bet there are a number of people here including Ms. Palin who don't know these names. How about the USS Constitution, Wasp, Hornet or Enterprise? I think it is important for any political person, especially one that has their eye on the White House to be aware of U.S. History.

Sarah Palin: I didn’t mess up Paul Revere history By Associated Press | Sunday, June 5, 2011 | www.bostonherald.com | U.S. Politics Photo by AP WASHINGTON — Sarah Palin says she didn’t mess up her history on Paul Revere. The potential 2012 presidential candidate was in Boston on Thursday as part of her bus tour when she was asked about the Revolutionary War hero. Palin said Revere "warned the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms." Palin, a paid Fox News contributor, told "Fox News Sunday" that she was correct. She says there were British soldiers in the area for years before Revere’s legendary ride, and that he was warning them, as well as his fellow colonists. The Paul Revere House’s website says that on April 18, 1775, Dr. Joseph Warren instructed Revere to ride to Lexington, Mass., to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were marching to arrest them. P.I. How well do you know the story of Audie Murphy? I was part to the Marine Drill team that marched with Audie Murphy on Saint Patricks Day Parade in South Boston MA when I was stationed at the Boston Navy Yard in Charlestown MA...I think it was a year or so before he was killed in a Plane Crash and I thought he was some teenage kid who was probably in his 40s ?? But he had the MOH Ribbon around his neck from WWII for his actions in Europe with the Army....I wanted to tell him too bad the Marines turned him down for being so small...he was only @ 5' 5'' and weighed @ 120Lbs when he enlisted in the Army in 1942.. I think the Marines screwed up on that one. So I never got to talk to him personally but knew of his exploits in WWII

Hawkeye Pierce is my kind of guy..irreverant and a wiseass..who had a way with nurses..
I posted pictures of the USS Constitution in the Military Board if you are interested since she was my first ship that I was assigned to at the Boston Navy Yard in Charlestown and she is still there and sails once a year in Boston Harbor

Semper Fi! However, the Marines had many men that were heroes in all wars and skirmishes. My fathers carrier launched the first VMF squadrons on Guadalcanal. Do you know what a PBJ is?
Thank you for your service P.I. I did see your post.

PBJ??? I know of PBY's ..or the Catalina flying boats..in WWII..
The USMC has an entire section of the historical Library dedication to Ole Pappy at the Marines Memorial Club in SF since he is a local hero from Fresno CA....

A PBJ is the Marine version of the B-25. Obviously a WWII weapon. It was a baddass. Later deployments had a 75mm cannon in the nose. I think they ran out of Japanese ships as targets. I think that was the WWII equivelent of today's A-10.

Politicians make mistakes. But, the ability to learn from mistakes is even more important. But, I am not looking from some super human perfect person to lead the way. I am looking for a genuine, hard working, smart, thoughtful, caring person. Someone who will do their best for the nation and do what they beie ive is in the nations best interest. I am not overly impressed by the ability of smooth tongues to create some wonderful sounding sound byte. That isn't what we need more of. Finding someone who is genuine about who they really are seems to be the much harder thing. I would rather have a tell like it is Trump and have someone bluster or stumble over their words than more smooth tongue glossolalia. We need to start judging candidates by the measure of who they are as a human being and enough with the "can you spell Khaddfi" or Al Quada or whatever. And, we need someone who has the desire to actually be a leader. Not someone who just desires power to sit in an office and rubber stamp things and go golfing. We need someone with the desire to really take the reigns of leadership. And, there are plenty of men and women who will not stand up and do so. Very few Repo men in my opinion really want to take on that responsibility other than for political reasons. I think Palin has a sincere desire to lead and to focus on the nation's best interests. I think she has a lot to learn but i also think she is smart and focused. In Pawlenty, I see namby pamby, let the status quo and more rubber stamping. I want someone bold and strong. That may be Palin or Bachmann or Paul or Romney. I don't know yet. Have to wait and see. I knew that Huck didn't have the fire in the belly to lead an is more interested in not getting a wedgie in his underwear and his creature comforts.

Just listening to Chris Wallace this morning and I heard Romney say that our President said the 9.1% current unemployment is just a bump in the road. The GOP needs someone who has a past experience in this area and the "anointed one" took a bad economy and made it worse. Romney has the experience in this field but there are many others that do also. Herman Cain is articulate and has run a successful business but has no Foreign Policy experience. Waiting for a seasoned, well-rounded candidate with a backbone, and a leader for the people. We need someone like a Paul Ryan or Chris Christy but still quite early to see who will throw their hat in the ring. The liberal media will nit-pick any candidate we have, but do they realize where 4 more years of a "community organizer" will ultimately land us? I watched him give a 5 minute clip saying things are progressing slowly and he couldn't even say it without reading it. Now, if you're on fire for cutting back spending, jobs, alternative energy, border security and foreign policy you will not need to read it.

]Thank God for Boston that Whitey isn't better known, but I somewhat admire his brother's devotion to him, embarrassing though it might have been to be the mayor of a major city with a brother who was a professional murderer.[/quote
Whitey is very well known by transplanted Bostonians especially by those of us with an Irish heritage...the Irish Mafia may not be that well known I will grant you that but they are as vicious and cold blooded as the Sicilians IMHO
BTW Whitey's brother knows enough to not do anything to get his name on an Irish Mafia hit list...that is not a good place to be...
Yes, but Whitey is not well-known by the non-Irish or non-Boston community and perhaps that is all to the good.

If you don't know Whitey like I know Whitey then you may well be much better off but since he is @75 years old, retired and spends his time anonymously posting on message boards about Politics and the Markets..
Btw Whitey is NOT a liberal or a big fan of Obama or the DOJ Eric Holder in case you are wondering
I went to high school with Billy Bolger in Boston MA but he was a few years ahead of me but we have met at our high school class reunions . And you guessed it he didn't talk about his older brother Whitey.. Whitey hates that nickname & prefers James Bolger but we always called him Mr Bolger or just Sir since everyone knew to not tick him off...

I didn't mess up about Paul Revere," replied Palin, a paid contributor to the network. "Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you're not going to succeed. You're not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have," she added. "He did warn the British." Palin, who again said she has not decided whether to run for president, was asked about the Revolutionary War hero during a stop Thursday in Boston on her East Coast bus tour. "He who warned the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms by ringing those bells, and makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." Palin's brush with the nation's history came toward the end of her "One Nation" bus tour that generated intense interest as she traveled from Washington to New England. Along the way, she steadfastly refused "a million times" to say whether she was running for president. Hey not a problem with this spin by Sarah, I would still rather attend a dinner with her than with Obama...as long as I could bring my five year old grand daughter to meet her and Pipper Palin..

He may have disclosed the fact the people were warned and armed after he was captured, but I doubt he went through town ringing bells and firing shots to warn the British they were,as she said. Our history books really got it wrong if in fact he was really yelling " the colonists are armed, the colonists are armed". I tried not to get into this stupid topic, but after seeing all the defense of her little speech,I couldn't help it.Listen to her words.............

Why are people still talking about this when it has been debunked. Palin told the truth. Little known truth, but it is the truth. Hard to believe such an unbelievably stupid woman ((sigh)) could know more than the jerks that follow her around to catch her showing her stupidity, but it seems this time she was right.
GO, SARAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody cares about Paul Revere. We are much more interested in Sam Adams. Amen to that, pour me another. All is not too well in Boston and it has nothing to do with Sarah Palin and her nonsense about warning the British by shooting off rounds and ringing bells...it has more to do with the Big Bad Bruins losing two close games to the Dam Canucks....Bostonians I know are not happy campers so don't mention Sarah, Romney or Obama to them they are all in a bad mood...
